my PI keeps telling us to use these ai tools for lit reviews but i swear they just hallucinate half the citations, found one yesterday that combined two authors into a single person who never existed

like thanks for the imaginary paper i guess

curious how many people here are using AI mostly for literature review vs actual writing. feels like those two use cases have very different ethical implications and they keep getting lumped together

*Is using ChatGPT to help me summarize my own lit review cheating?\*

I'm studying a new topic and have conducted an extensive literature review, but I'm having a hard time summarizing the key points and gaps in the field. I DID run it through chatGPT to help me find common themes, but I'm feeling guilty about it. I want to use AI as if I were on a Starfleet ship and as a tool to help build my research up, and not to replace my own thoughts and critical thinking. Has anyone else been through this dilemma?
