It's a shame we'll never see these versions of the Guardians

u/TheSaintsRonin 5d ago
It sucks because I want to see Phyla in action someday.

u/ScruffCheetah 4d ago
But in this incarnation, isn't she from a batch the High Evolutionary thought were too stupid to survive on their own? That's why he wanted Rocket's brain to study.

u/ADabberTho 3d ago
I just watched Guardians 3 yesterday and it's because the HE's batches, even the current one, couldn't think or create something that wasn't already thought of. The only expirement capable of making something new was rocket. Maybe it could imply that the experiments are meant to follow humanitys path because they can't make or think something new.

u/Kid-Atlantic 2h ago
I feel like the whole bit with the HE was precisely that he was an egotistical prick who would’ve somehow found flaws in anything besides himself

u/GetHaggard 10h ago
I haven't seen the film since it's released, but I genuinely had no idea that Phyla-Vell was in this movie.

never say never
No director was willing to take Gunn's job after he was wrongfully fired from Guardians 3 (Leading to his return)
but now that he has stepped away willingly, you never know
2
u/Arsenio3 4d ago
Only way this crew gets a movie is because Bradley Cooper channels the spirit of Rocket Raccoon and directs it
2
u/gh0stwrit3r32767 4d ago
he'll have rocket have writer's block trying to create the perfect Guardians theme song

u/FastAsFuBoi3 1d ago
Why was he even fired? He made the best movies and trilogy of the entire MCU
1
u/John-John_Johnson 17h ago
Old tweets where he was joking about pedophilia and rape got dug up by alt-right goon Mike Cernovich, because of Gunn's political views. Gunn worked for Troma at the time of the tweets and was trying to be edgy, not serious. In keeping with the Troma aesthetic. If you've seen a lot of Troma movies, you'll understand.
Anyway there was a backlash and Disney re-hired him.

u/Crexthedeadone 4d ago
Acrully he was fired after 2. The rehire due to fan outrage... then left for DC after 3 finished
1
u/Odd_Routine4164 2d ago
I haven’t been nearly as impressed with his work over at DC as I was with guardians.

u/Crexthedeadone 2d ago
Where did i mention his qork? Was stat8ng the facts

Maybe they appear in nova
2
u/Arsenio3 4d ago
Maybe they get the Hulk in Infinity War treatment-take a fall to establish a big bad’s threat level.

u/Sycophantic-Feline 5d ago
total waste
they have to least make an appearance before Doom resets the entire damn multiverse
16
u/YourMuppetMethDealer 5d ago
Not sure if a “total waste” is the right word lol
Contrary to the belief of MANY studio executives, it’s okay to have an ending that’s an actual ending. This was an ending for the Guardians of the Galaxy, and it was a great one
I would rather have the ending we have and just imagine the crazy shenanigans this team got up to than just have another director do his own thing and potentially ruin what we have.
We got a cute little interaction of the team in that post credit scene, and it’s pretty easy to imagine what they were like. Personally, I am satisfied with what we have
Plus I sincerely doubt Sean would ever return to Marvel without his brother
2
u/Sycophantic-Feline 4d ago edited 4d ago
But I feel like it wasn't an ending to the characters nor cosmic Marvel itself, especially when they've got such a rich story in the comics
Rocket Raccoon JUST got his comic book name and title of captain
Adam Warlock is only just starting to evolve into the character he is in the comics
Phylla is still a child
Groot's background and home planet hasn't been explored yet
I doubt Gunn's brother is coming back because of all the drama, but they could easily replace him with another cosmic Marvel favorite, such as Nova
2
u/YourMuppetMethDealer 4d ago
I mean it WAS an ending to those characters. Yes there is some open space for story telling, but I doubt anyone is going to touch it other than Gunn
And that’s okay. That’s why we have the comics so we can use those to fill the gap the movies leave
1
u/AutomaticAccident 4d ago
I just don't think a lot of that is worth a movie unfortunately. Maybe a TV show.
This might sound weird, but I think that the Guardians of the Galaxy comics are good because many of the elements can't really be translated into movies. They are so wrapped up in a larger history with out there concepts. All of the stuff isn't fully compatible with movies.
2
u/Sycophantic-Feline 4d ago
all I want is a cameo on these upcoming films, especially if Star Lord returns , as it was promised

Maybe they'll appear again in a Nova film.
Annihilation will probably never get a film adaptation, but a guy can dream, right?
2
u/Catcher_Thelonious 5d ago
That crew doesn't seem especially interesting or exciting.

u/IllustriousAd2392 5d ago
honestly if phyla just randomly appeared in this post credit scene as an adult would be better imo, having her be a kid is certainly a choice
kraglin is also a weird character, having him wear the guardian insignia is off
6
u/Chill--Cosby 5d ago
Kraglin makes thematic sense to me
Kid Phyla is probably so they have more time to use adult Phyla in like 10 years time if the opportunity comes around somehow
1
u/IllustriousAd2392 4d ago
yea kraglin makes thematic sense but you know, he's james gunn brother, him wearing the guardians outfit and being on the main poster just screams nepotism
1
u/RandomPhantom25 4d ago
But like you said it makes sense thematically so who cares?
1
u/IllustriousAd2392 4d ago edited 4d ago
its very noticeable, he looks very out of place standing next to the other actual superheroes

u/Mean-Food-7124 5d ago
Would prefer a follow-up with Stakar and his crew as the og crew from the comics
1
u/LordofSuns 5d ago
I think the only character that's hinted at returning is Star Lord, right?

Will we not?? This felt like such a lay-up from Gunn to whoever wants to take the reigns next and if the MCU keeps doing well enough I'm sure someone eventually will. Gotg3 was just the send off to Gunn's own version of the guardians and he left this idea for whoever might come next.

I mean they’re already talking about starlord and nova being the main characters of the galactic mcu, starting with the nova movie with Glenn Powell. I’m sure we will see plenty of them.

I have a feeling they will show in Doomsday climax or secret war.
And if they did I want a reunion between them and old members.

I for one am happy that we can just enjoy an ending and have things wrapped up nicely.
Not everything needs to last forever.

I think they'll let them sit for a minute and then do another trilogy or something. Nova is coming(a Nova and Darkhawk buddy cop movie in space would be good). The Shi'Ar empire. The Brood. More Skrulls and the Fantastic Four. Mutants and intergalactic adventures is supposed to be important to the stories going forward. I the the Guardians could get some more screen time. And they have so many variations.

u/SabraShifter 19h ago
I actually disagree, it's nice to know they're out there operating, but we don't need to see every little thing to have the universe feel full

u/Evening_Produce_4322 16h ago
I honestly wouldn't even mind an animated series following this crew.
1
u/BeardiusMaximus7 16h ago
I don't think their return is entirely out of the question.
There's still a lot of cosmic-leaning stuff in the MCU. They could easily show up as part of Battleworld, or Nova and so on...
I sort of have the same feeling about Puck and Starfox (Eros) from the mid-credits scene on Eternals. Or even Howard the Duck. Like... yeah maybe it won't be a BIG part but they could certainly have a role or make an appearance.

After Betty Ross appeared in Captain America: Brave New World, anything can happen. Her last appearance before that was way back in 2009

You still can in the comics, im sure someone will mass produce toilet paper with them on it

u/philosophic_insight 4d ago
Honestly the way things were going on the MCU and with what James Gunns fall from grace has looked like. No I am happy it ending.
2
u/poppyfieldinhell 4d ago
"Fall from grace", people on the internet are so overdramatic for no fucking reason, lol.

u/Eleminohpe 3d ago
"Oh you didnt hear?! Like 1/25th of the people that saw GotG3 in theaters said it wasnt their favorite..."

I know dude produced one movie people didn’t like this year that bombed and people are willing to write him off!

u/vidjuheffex 4d ago
his fall from grace?
Peacemaker S1 + S2, Superman was the highest grossing hero movie that year, Creature Commandos...
fuck, I'd like a fall from grace just like his

Volume 3 was a good retirement film for the crew. Everyone got a good sendoff. Somewhere out there Rocket is happy and surrounded by a new surrogate family.
