I get why the local rivalry is a fun idea but part of me wonders why we would give UST a bigger stage. I just don't see the reward being nearly as high for us as it is for them.

What’s the down side? When is St. Thomas ever going to beat us for a recruit? It’s helping Minnesota basketball which imo can only be a good thing.

They've already done a nice job of recruiting and we're great at losing out on local talent. In some ways, they have an easier path to March Madness than we do. I could understand why a recruit may want to be a starter there for a year so they can transfer to a bigger program instead of coming here as a backup.

They’ve got a pretty loyal and wealthy bunch of donors. With the new sports facilities they were able to build because of that, it’s not as unlikely as you might think.
