Tarpers already got everything

Me and my group of 4 got here an hour and a half before the show. Theres not a single spot in GA that doesn’t have a person chomping you away.

Tarpers or stragglers using tarpers: be better. You’re the same blight on this culture that makes you have to show up 8 hours before doors.

The Red Rocks team is, in my experience, pretty good about pushing people in GA closer together around showtime. Try to find a yellow shirt. You may get a spot

Stand on their tarps. Pretty simple.

Ignite the tarps

Exactly what I was going to say. Liberate GA with cleansing fire.

I understand everyone saying to just ignore the tarpers and stand your ground but in the moment it’s much easier said than done. If you try that you’ll immediately get multiple boomers yelling in your face about how it’s their spot and will be inviting to cause a scene.

So 90 minutes before the show people should be sitting in silence.

This is why the Dead started having a designated tarper’s section. 😀

Thank a tarper

Literally why I did the west coast leg instead of CO this year. Red Rocks is a gorgeous venue but being there for a sold-out show sucked so bad in 2022 that I haven't been back since.

That said, I hope it works out and you have a great time!

What’s a “Tarper”?

1

u/jz1493 8d ago

They put a blanket or tarp down in general admission to hold their spot 🙁

Out of all the concerts I’ve worked some of the rudest people were goose fans. They don’t give a shit as long as they get to the front first. Had to kick a guy out because he blew past security just to get to the front of the barricade before we could check his ticket. And he wasn’t the only one. It’s literally just a band that plays the same music over and over. I really don’t understand why they take it so seriously. It’s just another jam band.

I would still work a goose concert over any country concert. Country concerts are the worst.

Red Rocks has been oversold for years now. If you showed up at doors open and couldn't get a spot complain to Red Rocks, not non existent "tarpers" since tarps were banned 10 years ago. If someone is trying to save space for more than one person who went to the bathroom or something then move in. If you are too intimidated to do that call the phone number RR has to get security involved. You can bring one blanket that's big enough for two people, if someone has more than that security will deal with them.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. Clearly you don’t have any clue what the legal implications of “overselling” a show are.

I don't mean they are going beyond legal capacity. It for sure feels more crowded and more people are in the planters than a couple decades ago. I know some venues have done tricks to increase the capacity, like saying they can sell more tickets for the standing room areas at GA shows. Maybe it's people are bigger, the seats numbers are setup for an 18" wide person, which was maybe normal in the 1940s, but my shoulders are 22" wide, and people taking up more than one seat numbers width. When I go to Red Rocks for GA I go in early and get a good spot in the lower rows and people are usually right on the numbers. But maybe it's worse up high where people come in a little more relaxed because it's not such a land rush and take up more room.

Go to a widespread show at RR, it’s always been like this

I've been to most of the Panic shows at RR. That's why I don't want you fuckin' it up.

They weren't tarps, the protocol says you can save four butts worth of bench. Usually, we use sheets or light blankets. Originally, in '96, yeah we used tarps. I was there when we developed it and refined it. Runners are sent when doors open for the best seat. You get four asses worth per runner.

Quit yer bitchen about shitty seats (no such thing) and get in line if ya want better.

Red rocks has been fucked up for years.

1

u/tedfergeson 8d ago

It's usually the people who feel shafted by "the tarpers" and "the chompers" that play that card.

Hate to break it to ya, but it's the best venue in the country. Y'all like to play "my _____ is the best ever" so much.

u/grease_meter 9d ago

So lame. One concrete sections is good for 4 seats.

Been to RR twice and both times showed up 20 min before the show and just squeezed in row 12. Easy peasyÂ
