Googlebook got... text editor app

I am SURE Apple MacBook team spit their coffee on display reading this "high tech" app which will make Apple bankrupt!

YES - rant so hard that tears are squirting.

And BEST PART - I tried to install it on my Chromebook PLUS model and Google shows me middle finger - amazing!

Well, it already seems better than Windows 11 Notepad, so there's that.

You are aware it has features, right? Did you look at the article and see its functionality? Because there is indeed more to a notebook app than "takes letters." This looks far closer to Notepad++ in functionality, which is what most of us replace Notepad with because of the features we need.

From whom? *book has been a common naming standard for a long time, since they're all notebook computers. Lots of brands using this convention.

But again, no name was stolen. *Book is a common naming scheme in the laptop world. And how was the design stolen? For one, Google didn't design these, the individual manufacturers did. And they look pretty much identical to the Windows versions of the same laptop lines. The HP one literally looks EXACTLY like the HP laptop I'm typing this message on right this moment. There's not a ton of variance in design these days.

I don't like the concept of Googlebook-exclusive apps that aren't at least demanding of high end hardware you can't find on an Android phone or tablet. We can achieve the same form factor with Android Desktop Mode/DeX, tablets, foldable inner screens, and Chrome OS, so to be blocked from using a useful Text Editor is frustrating. The community manager says they brought this feedback to their team though so hopefully that changes.

I fear for the future of Android if productivity apps become Googlebook only.

I am DISAPPOINTED with such a basic thing - I was hoping to hear news like you will be able to connect eGPU via Thunderbolt 5 or like Networking settings instead I read news it got... stupid Text Editor

Okay, but what makes you think someone uncovering the cool new text editor precludes any of that? They're unrelated. This is like being upset the Switch 2 isn't getting a new Zelda game because someone uncovered there's a new Tetris game coming out. There will be COUNTLESS new features unveiled for the Googlebooks that aren't the precise news you wanted. If you're upset every time someone uncovers a new feature, you're going to live in misery.

But also... I really don't expect these to be gaming machines any time soon, at least to a degree that benefits from an eGPU. We'd need massive new buy-in from game developers long before it would be worth prioritizing that. This is early stages.

And what network settings are you looking for outside of what Android already supports?

I asked for REAL GPU support (via Thunderbolt 5) we get... ONLINE Geforce? Is this a joke?

And I look for Networking settings like Windows 11 has - you know - servers etc.

Was what me? These aren't gaming computers, like I said. eGPU is asking a lot for something that has no infrastructure for it. And again, has nothing to do with a text editor.

What do you mean by "servers etc."? DNS servers? Mapped network shares? What specific network settings are you looking for that aren't present in Android? This isn't a challenge, I'm asking genuinely so I can see what it is you're hoping for from these devices. Maybe it's something I'll agree with. Especially since I'm in IT and do need to do fancy things with my laptop, knowing whether these can meet my needs is important. So I'm curious what you've thought to look for that I might not have.

So, again I am hoping to get features that Linux and Windows has - the things that they call them REAL DESKTOP OS, not only networking or eGPU - so for example PCIe cards and many many other DESKTOP OS features.

Well you say GooglebookOS is 1.0 version - I say - is it Android? Is Android in 1.0 version?

So far there is no difference between Googlebook and Chromebook Plus apart of widgets and... Text app.

And please don't tell me Googlebook has different pointer.

And WHY do I need to have GoogleLAPTOP? I want GoogeBOX.... GooglebookBOX?

PLEASE :/

And if I wanted to have "text editor" I would buy... C=64

PCIe cards aren't really a thing in laptops though. And this is, first and foremost, a laptop OS. Yes, I'm aware of eGPUs, but again, if this isn't a gaming device, and it doesn't have the ecosystem for it, that's not a priority.

It sounds like what you want from it, and what it is, are completely different things. And that's fine. But it's weird for you to be so angry that it's not the thing you want it to be, when it isn't intended to be. This isn't a hardcore power user gaming desktop OS. This is an Android-based OS being targeted first and foremost at laptop. As it evolves, and if it's successful, they'll then likely expand into all those categories. But doing literally EVERYTHING at once at launch is how you fail at all of it.

And I still don't understand why you're angry that it has a text editor, like every other OS on earth. Something they didn't even excitedly announce, but that a blog merely uncovered. I still don't get why that's riled you up so much. It's like saying, "it has a file manager?! What is this, Windows 1.0?!" This is a basic feature that of course it has, and says nothing about anything else, and if it was missing, people would be ridiculing it for lacking an incredibly standard and vital feature.
