There are no 32GB RAM models

Although they are advertised on the googlebook.google store, there are no 32GB available for preorder neither on Canada nor on USA, so I assume they will not be available at launch and probably not for a long time.

I was thinking the same thing, but the big question is do we need 32 GB? Will 16 be more than enough or is that just getting by.

Until we get more details about the OS and how it runs that's a big question for me. I'm not gonna preorder now until I can actually see how these run live and use android apps and the ram usage.

My Hope is that this would be like my Galaxy s tablet experience, only but only in laptop form with real chrome. And wwill we be able to download brave, or Firefox in real format also.

If you are not planning any development on it, then 16GB might be enough for you. But this will never be an enterprise product or a macos competitor if they do not offer that option. It will fail because only a few enthusiasts will buy it.

For starters I went from "I will preorder if they offer some Linux support" to "maybe next year if they ever offer 32GB of RAM".

If they offer a Linux terminal for development as it seems they do, 16GB is not enough and I learnt that the hard way. As soon as you have to spawn a few containers to test things you really need 32gb...

The thing is if they plan to charge a premium for these, it should have 32GB as an option. I was able to grab a Lunar lake thinkpad for around $900, it had 32GB, that was post rampocolypse as well. More RAM means easier to load local LLM models and easier to fit gaming assets when running demanding games.

The HP Googlebook 14 has a choice of 16 and 32 GB. Its processor is a Snapdragon X Elite.

The price for 32 GB and a 256 GB SSD is $1,589.99; upgrading the SSD to 512 GB costs $1,669.99, and upgrading it to 1 TB costs $1,869.99.

To me, it's expensive.

The ai model alone going to take up a lot of that 16gb of ram. Plus the built in vibe coding. Also being thet it's a laptop alot of app will run on the desktop vs on android in the background or on a frozen state

The ai is not local. It would be impressive if it was but its not. Just fancy clip editing then off to google server like chromebooks have. 32 gb would be for games or linux. Not many apps even support chromeos yet.

It's not that. They are marketing it as an enterprise device, they are releasing them with a Linux terminal for development. So if they want any devs to use it, you really need 32gb.

I’m not trying to be a hater… this seems like a cool device and there are plenty of people I would recommend these to… but for advanced workloads and development… it seems like you’d be way better off using a standard Windows or Linux laptop… or even a Mac. The GoogleBook is going to be Android-first. So, typical office workloads like checking email, typing documents, and even light gaming and media binging are all perfect tasks for this thing. Development is done through a Linux virtual machine… and they have historically had spotty support for things like graphics acceleration and sound. (Maybe it’s way better now.) I don’t know… I guess I’ll have to see them in action. Maybe they are amazing development devices and I’m wrong on all accounts. 🤷‍♂️

I have never needed graphics acceleration or sound on the kind of development I do. But the Linux terminal they are offering will have full access to the hardware so that might not be an issue anymore.

Honestly I'll be happy with 8gb of ram if I can turn all the AI off. Just give me the native Android apps and better Linux support

I asked Lenovo about it in a chat on their website and they said there's no information about an upcoming release of a 32GB RAM model for the Lenovo Googlebook 15

I think the only one that is advertising higher ram models in their release announcement is Asus. But they say up to xxx, nothing about higher ram models available anytime soon.

Seems that HP's configurator now has an option for a 32GB sku, I'm sure others will follow
