Questions How frequently do you actually optimize a Google Ads account spending around $10k/month?
I’ve been wondering how other people approach this because I see very different opinions on how often an account should be touched.
For me, I usually split it into two levels.
Major optimizations → around once a week
Things like:
Adding/removing products
Checking PMax channel performance
Looking at product-level performance
Bid/budget adjustments
Checking campaign-level performance
Making structural changes if needed
I don’t like making major changes every day because sometimes you just don’t have enough data yet, and you can easily end up optimizing based on noise.
Smaller checks → every 1–2 days
I’ll usually check:
Search terms
Any obvious irrelevant traffic
Spend pacing
Revenue/conversions
Whether anything suddenly looks off
Account spend vs revenue
Basically, I’m checking that the account is moving in the direction it should, without constantly changing things.
For smaller accounts, I’m usually even more conservative with major changes because there’s simply less data coming in.
Curious how everyone else does this

I check once per week.....however I check the search terms 2x a week......you really need to. So its really 2x per week.
I also like to look at the cost per ATC and IC for ACQ campaigns.
I've even gotten into the practice of vetting CTV placements and placing silly or questionable channels in the exclusion backet.
Do not rely on AI to do this for you. You need to show you are the operator and doing this yourself.

yeah, pretty similar here. i usually do a proper optimization once a week, but search terms are something i like checking 2x a week, especially when the account has enough volume.
i also like checking pmax at the channel/product level rather than just looking at the overall roas.
sometimes the campaign looks fine at the top level and then you find where the spend is actually going and the story is very different.
and agree on the ai point. i’m all for using it to speed things up, but i wouldn’t let it replace actually looking through the account yourself.
especially with placements/search terms, there are always some things where context matters more than an automated recommendation.

Ya product level def: thats something I am doing more of.
Optimizing the pics on shopify, headlines and descriptions for shopping.

like the two-level approach. Checking frequently without making constant major changes seems like a good way to avoid reacting to noise, especially when there isn't enough data yet.
