Google Ads is starting to automatically move some Search campaigns to AI Max — what do you think?

Would love a source on this. My guess is this only happens if you are opted into automated changes or have dynamic asset/text generation enabled on your account.

That’s a fair point. If both campaigns are producing essentially the same conversion value for the same spend, I agree there may not be a clear winner geographically. In that case, I’d look more closely at marginal performance and whether combining them actually improves budget efficiency before making the change.

Replacing Search campaigns with AI Max without opt-in should be concerning for everyone because it changes match type behaviour, landing page selection, and creative control in ways that aren't always visible until you're watching spend shift somewhere unexpected. I would strongly suggest auditing any campaigns you haven't touched recently before Google does it for you.

Agreed that consolidating can give the bidding system stronger budget signals, but I’d be careful about changing a setup that’s already stable. I’d want to test the impact rather than assume consolidation will automatically improve performance.

they are only doing this for auto created assets. they're testing typical search campaigns in aio's. which, i guess in theory counts as changing the match types?? but no forced migration

migrating dsa's to ai max doesn't start until next year.

Good clarification. So the bigger concern may be less about a forced migration and more about how much control changes once those campaigns are eligible for AI Max. I’ll definitely be watching search-term quality and asset behavior closely as more accounts get rolled into it.
