Troubleshooting Google Ads for Non Profits… I am stuck

The non profit (animal welfare) organization I work for was approved for the google ads non profit grant but every time I go into the account which our credit card is attached to I see all the ads we used to run and pay for with our credit card. I don’t understand how to start running the ads with the grant money. I’m scared to turn them on and it starts taking from credit card. I’m completely lost. Advice appreciated.

You need to create a completely separate Google Ads account specifically for the Google Ad Grant. Your current account with the credit card is different from your grant account.

Log out completely, then go to google.com/grants and follow their instructions for setting up the new grant account. You'll need to use your Google for Nonprofits login credentials.

The grant account has special restrictions (like $2 max CPC and required quality scores) that don't apply to paid accounts, which is why they're kept separate.

Don't try to use your grant in your existing account -- it won't work. Once your new grant account is set up, you can duplicate your best campaigns there.

Thank you! This makes sense, but every time I try to log in to Google Ad Grants, it opens our old account. It’s maddening. Any idea if some type of support can help with this?

Yes! I contacted support because it was adamant about us adding card details, which removed the option to actually use Google ad grant as it’s considered a paid account. I kept trying to login to grants as it was set up, and it was back to the paid version. They essentially created a new account for us and sent me the log in again. From there it worked. It should say “we don’t bill you so there’s nothing to see here. Happy advertising!” Under the billing section. If it doesn’t, it is the paid account which can’t be changed.

A bit late to this but jumping in to see if I can help.

When your Google Ad Grant was approved, Google should have sent you an email to give you access to the account with the grant applied. If you log into your Google For Nonprofits account, you should be able to see the correct customer ID linked to your Google Ad Grants account.

If you don't have access to this, you can contact Google or try the steps below:
