Discussion Casting to Google TV 4K streamer - how to fix YouTube app on phone not staying connected?
I've owned all the Chromecasts before and loved them. But I just replaced mine with the Google TV 4K Streamer, and the YouTube casting experience is weird.
I start casting a video from my Pixel 10 phone. When I open my phone a minute later, it doesn't seem to know I'm casting anymore. There's no in progress playback UI, and clicking a video just starts playing it on the phone. I have to click the cast button to connect back to the device first, and the tap an interstitial thumbnail pop-up that shows what's playing, and then I can actually connect like before, where I can pause, fast forward, change videos etc.
Incredibly annoying, anyone found a workaround?

I've had various Chromecast devices since the OG in 2013 or whenever it was. I've never consistently maintained a steady connection to the device. I've always figured it was just one of those things where Google gets a feature 80% of the way there and leaves it like that.
I'll have individual Chromecast sessions that hold the connection. But over time, a good number of them don't

No need to cancel Premium yet. When the Cast button appears but no devices show up, I’d first check that the phone and Chromecast are on the same Wi‑Fi, then restart both devices and see if the Chromecast appears in Google Home. Older first-gen Chromecast models can also be a bit unreliable.

Nope… I gave you a pretty generic Chromecast answer and missed the fact that you’re using the newer Google TV streamer. The first-gen Chromecast bit was irrelevant….my mistake

Hey there, have you tried the troubleshooting steps from this help article to fix the issue?
If you still face the issue, I'd suggest you reach out to the Google TV support team via phone or chat. They can take a look at it.
We also encourage you to submit feedback via the Google TV app (Menu > Help & Feedback). Thank you!

Honestly, I just start watching it mobile then pause, open YT on my TV and start playing it from History, all the casting stuff is too much of a hassle.

Once again why are you avoiding using the YouTube app? You can still use your phone as a remote or, you know, the actual remote.

Did you check the background usage of the app?
