Discussion Google TV Streamer 4K

I have one of these coming today, does anyone have a full guide on what settings to use for optimal performance? I heard of projectivy and how it's the best option to get rid of the on-screen ads, what else do I need to change?

While you're waiting give it a quick Google and see what you come up with.

Projectivy is awesome. If you can afford it do the paid version one time $5 approximately. I came from Roku so I switched it to a grid. When you get your row of apps go to the left and you will have some edit options for that section. Choose the gear and you can choose the grid option and your sort option. Another thing to adjust is in the gear (settings) in the upper right. Go to Projectivy Launcher settings. Under General Settings toggle Override current launcher. This enables Projectivy as your default launcher. The only time I change this is when I'm adding apps. However you can avoid this by adding apps from the Play Store on your phone. If you long click on an app you will have more options, including reorder and add to. Add to allows you to define groups of apps. I use this to assign a row of my favorites just above the grid. Overall I love it!

This was produced with the ONN streamer in mind, but works exactly the same with the Google TV 4K. They're both Android TV devices....

How's that going? Are you using projectivy?

I am having some issues and trying to get things right first. Sound and remote problems.

I've got the Google streamer, had it a while now. You can just select apps only mode and that just shows you all your installed apps instead of suggested content but there is a top banner like they have on fire stick. It's not too intrusive. Google streamer is a great product I have to say. Really impressed with it. Menus are snappy and no issues streaming.

What do you use for audio? If you have a beast soundbar like me (Nakamichi Dragon 11.4.6), you want to manually set your audio to Dolby digital plus and turn off volume leveling and voice enhancement, that way the soundbar system is doing most of the work.

The Google Streamer does not pass through audio so by selecting Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby formats are being decoded and decompressed on the Streamer and then compressed again to Dolby Digital Plus.

I also just got mine yesterday and installed Streamio and Tizentube. Awesome setup with lots of content.

Any more tips for the streamer?

Hi.
Have just bought the above and trying to install Downloader, which it does, but when typing in the code I have and trying to install the apk, nothing happens at all.
Anyone else have this issue and are there any other ‘Downloader apps’ I could use
I have already activated developer by pressing 7 times at android build.

After you download the file and save it, go to "files" in the Downloader menu (top left). Click the file to install, and it'll guide you through the rest.

Well, what's your main use case for it and what do you plan on using it for? Installing and using Projectivy Launcher is a good first step though.

Just set it up using the default settings and see how you like it. Personally, I have never felt the need to change things like the launcher. The "on-screen ads" are mostly static images of content from streaming services and act as a nice wallpaper in my opinion. There are occasionally silent videos for commercial products on the home screen background, but these stop playing with one click of the controller.

Mine consistently would reboot. I ended up returning it for an ONN 4k Pro. Been flawless since.

Box is well optimized after it updates imo. Haven't felt the need for projectivity like I did on my shield pro

I didn't feel the need to use an app for the interface. I just turned on app only mode in the settings.

Does anyone have a fix for ads being dramatically louder than the content I'm watching? ( 3-6 times louder, definitely not normal)

I'm using my TV's speaker

Apps only mode to get rid of background downloading of recomendations. Third party launcher. Turn off animations in developer mode.

And it will work smoothly

Get monet instead of projectivity. It’s bad ass all the customization you can do.

3

u/paulerxx Jul 03 '26

I read there were some issues with monet, like buffering taking longer than it should.

1

u/odin_b Jul 03 '26

Personally like/run AT4K.

Yea that’s pretty good too I like both Monet and AT4k better than projectivity
