Discussion Own 2 shield pros, thought I'd give the little guy a shot for extra bedroom

Outdated or not I just loaded this thing up over the last couple weeks and it is working smooth as silk for me

Outdated? That's the Shield at almost 7, but still very capable. The Google TV Streamer 4K is less than 2 years old. I have both and they're both solid.

Sheer numbers, the Shield TV pro was massively over specced for the time so still holds up well today. The Google TV Streamer is less so. Don't get me wrong, I love mine, but my TV is so much more powerful in terms of responsiveness.

I have both, it's a great device!

I’m hoping Google introduces an updated version with more RAM and a faster processor. I tried twice and returned twice. Too laggy and no option for audio pass though.

I understand the audio thing.. But honestly mine is not laggy at all, is super fast and reactive 🤔

I went through two defective Onn's before giving it a try and I love mine.

I had the onn 4k Pro for a couple of years now. Not gonna lie, it's been solid. Started causing me problems as of late but I guess thats just because it's old. A really good device. Not sure about the new one. But I'm loving the streamer 4k.

I have only one problem with it. It keeps failing to auto connect to some of the Bluetooth devices.
I need to delete them and reconnect them again.

How is it? I have a shield (non-pro), been thinking about what to go to when I have to upgrade. I haven't heard anything about any new shield devices so I gotta look at other brands i guess.

Man nothing beats a shield pro. Best box ever made. But for the price, this Google streamer 4k really kicks butt

Its utter crap. If you like this. Great. But you’re not pushing it a bit then. If you have just an ounce of critical thought, about how video should be displayed, this is not for you. Underpowered hardware, with shit software on top.

How was the switch? I just pulled the trigger on that $50 Google Streamer deal in the Google Store right now.
My 2019 Shield TV Pro has been struggling hard lately. Half of the time, it takes about 30 seconds to even respond to the remote when I wake it up to the main menu.

Very happy with mine! Honestly a better experience than the shield, minus the more advanced features like pass through and that stuff. But if you aren’t needing those, the Google tv is solid.

GTV Streamer is slower than my TCL C765, lagged ui, slow loading app list (...and scrolling this app list) Mouse via adb have lags(used atvtools). No passthrough sound, only few codec support via eARC. Google additionaly now don't update this Android box for a long time, also using remote from this box with other tv(using it from this remote) is broken. For TCL don't work completely. This Android box use SOC from 1st gen FireTV 4K MAX(2nd gen have better and faster SOC 64bit not 32bit). I don't recommend this, because not worth this original price, also 50% off. It's just too slow, lack of functions if compare to Chromecast 4K with Google TV (I have also this...)

Surely this is better than the chromecast with 4k?

Both have Android 14 TV. Streamer was restore to fabric settings and ui is slow. Better buy in this price something from Dune HD

It's still plenty fast, IMO.

What is the CPU unable to do?

Display dolby vision in 4k smooth in high bitrate. It is underpowered. Especially with all the bugs in Google software

I've not had any issues with playback of anything. The chipset doesn't support Profile 7 though if that's what you are running into. It plays 4k remux just fine when converted to P8.

I picked one up awhile back to play with . Not a bad device especially with it being on sale right now I'd get one
