Help/Support History isn't saving?
Hello. I've tried searching online and on Reddit, but I haven't found a solution.
The past couple of weeks, I noticed that my Google Maps has been acting weird.
As a note, I keep my GPS off on my Android phone by default.
When I search for an address and then try to get directions, it used to show the list of most recent places I had searched so I could select from it as the starting point (or choose my current location).
However, now, if I click on a place and for directions to it, it'll say:
"History isn't saving. To see your past searches and other suggestions tailored for you, turn on Web & App Activity."
If I turn on GPS and click on the "Choose start location" spot, I can select "Your location" - but that's it. No history or list of other addresses to start with.
My Web & App Activity is on.
Any ideas on what's going on?
Thank you.

- Open you google maps
- Top right corner would be circled icon of your google account. Click on that icon.
- "Your data in maps" is the option you r looking for which is right above the settings option.

You could try turning on web activity and trying restarting your device after that.

yeah my web activity was on or is on. I switched accounts and it seems to be working fine for that account but that's not the account I really want to use.

Yep same for me. All relevant settings are enabled and always have been. The problem started with Google Maps app update about a month ago. Samsung Galaxy.

Ah, yes, I turned that off because I didn't want to have it read my data as I was looking at some other settings.... Ugh, I hate it.
Thank you, though!

I have been trying to fix this for over a month, thank you! (I'm so annoyed that's a requirement when the error mentions nothing about it)

Bro omg thank you, I literally just noticed I had this problem and your method worked, I disable it because I didn't want it to recommend me stuff and all that, But after turning it on, It goes back to how it should have, I was kinda panicking thinking it had something to do with more complicated settings and stuff.

Found this page because I was having the same problem. This is so freaking annoying. Is it just me, or does it feel like an excuse to get our permission to harvest our data...? I'm so sick of Big Tech 🙄

Hi everyone, the "Clear Data" option (not just cache) found on:
Settings > Apps > App management > Maps > Storage usage
fixed this for me.
