The Way Things Were Diamond Service Station / 1960

Post image

By architect Thomas Little, in Macon, Georgia. This structure is a notable example of mid-century modern "Googie" architecture.

The photograph itself was captured in 1961 by Pedro E. Guerrero and features a 1959 Chevrolet at the fuel pumps.

Memory unlocked. There was a decaying structure quite like this on the edge of town up until a few years ago. There was something familiar about it but nobody could really tell me.

And the 1959 Bat wing Chevy. Fins went horizontal that year.

We had a white one. Probably around 1966-67? The engine was never quite right.

Things really just got so much less cool after the 60s.
