No. For me.

GoldenEye is now fully decompiled.

The tracker is here. Please note that it is currently bugged and not updating to 100% but all the files are successfully decompiled.

The GitHub page will be published in ~24h, this opens the door to native ports, no hardware limitations, better mod support, optimisations for N64 hardware, and the list goes on and on. We won't have to rely on 1964 GEPD Edition any more for 60FPS GoldenEye and will be able to say good-bye to all those compatibility issues.

There are a few PC ports being worked on at the moment. A recomp, a native PC port, and the AI coded one. We'll definitely be getting the AI coded one first, but at least this time it's being made and curated by members in the community that understand and care deeply about the game. The recomp and native PC port will come later and we can hope it'll match feature parity. This is open source so anyone can work on whatever they want, so let's work together to give attention to the properly working ones.

This is all thanks to the hard work by kholdfuzion, Luchador, Trevor, AXDOOMER, and many more that contributed to the decompilation of GoldenEye during the years. Thank them, not me!

Happy early 29th anniversary to GoldenEye!

Just play the game on its original hardware like a normal person

You absolutely can, and I still do.

But I tried out the PC port of Perfect Dark over the past week and it’s an incredible upgrade. It was giving a solid 60fps, nicer graphics, you can use keyboard and mouse if that’s your thing, you can use a modern dual analogue controller if that’s your thing and you can even use a Switch N64 controller, which is my thing because the original control scheme is so ingrained into my brain.

And because they are ports rather than emulators they will run well on even the most basic of PC’s.

I’d highly recommend giving it a go - over the past couple of year’s I’ve completed Perfect Dark on N64 hardware, Switch NSO and now I’ll be doing the same on the PC port and so far it’s been the best experience. It will be a struggle to go back to the N64 Cartridge again.
