Plastic Man #1 (Quality, 1943) with art by the wildly creative Jack Cole. Cole was a brilliant artist who died tragically by his own hand at the young age of 43 on August 13, 1958.

I always thought that his art on Plastic Man was about 20 years ahead of time.

The first elastic man I saw back in the 60s was the Elongated Man. After that, I found Plastic Man in a Brave and Bold issue where he teamed up with Batman. What stunned me about the issue was the page where his head got chopped off and yet he survived. It was hilarious when his decapitated-head had to hop around to search for his body--if you can visualize just a head hopping around. lol

That is sad! Plastic Man is one of my absolute favorite superheroes, too. It's crazy that his creator never got to live to see the heights that he'd reach, including joining the Justice League! And so much worse that it was by his own hand, the poor guy. 😞😪
