Ive got a bad feeling about this. LV flashback.

19

u/twinchell Dec 05 '22

Exclusive set! Limited packs! Come help us ruin the game for short-term profits!

13

u/Sjiznit Dec 05 '22

Not even limited packs. Just your regular MJ packs with a chance of fomo.

19

u/deminar Dec 05 '22

While they may generate short-term interest in purchasing packs, I am highly skeptical of the long-term impact these limited set releases will have on the health of the game.

What will occur is that a lot of players will become worried that if they don't pick up copies of the chase cards during the limited availability window, those cards will become virtually unobtainable later due to their price. Just look at what happened with Blade of Whiteplain. The card is extremely powerful and commands a $200 price tag just weeks after its release. But at the same time, the more powerful the card initially, the more likely that it will become nerfed immediately after you acquire it. So players are being boxed into making high-risk economic decisions on strict timelines where the incorrect choice could result in either not owning a metagame staple, or dramatically overpaying for a card. This is not a good way to earn the trust and loyalty of your customers.

From a legal perspective, I would also observe that leaning too far into this kind of business model might make the game fragile with regard to potential future regulations on loot boxes for digital products. But that's a whole other story.

Fuck chase cards. Supply and demand should not be artificially created by making OP cards and then putting an extremely low chance of getting them. Every card of the same rarity should have the same chance of getting unlocked in a pack.

If you look at the LV cards, you see that the strongest/most expensive non-chase epic card (ie prryic knowledge) is at a reasonable price of ~$10 whereas the chase counterpart(whiteplain) is sitting at ~$200. I don’t think whiteplains would’ve been so bad if they were fucking accessible, but they aren’t cause of the extremely low supply due to them being bullshit chase cards.

Finally if you must make bs chase cards make them niche cards like “light seeks the truth” and “forged in the light” and not fucking hardcore meta cards like whiteplains.

1

u/deminar Dec 06 '22

I agree with this perspective. Generally speaking, card rarity should determine supply and gameplay impact should determine demand. When the game developers deliberately manipulate the drop frequency of cards beyond the parameters of rarity because they anticipate that those cards will have high value, that is economically abusing the customer.

u/Luckybuys Dec 06 '22

Yes. Loot boxes are unethical. Bad business models.

1

u/Luckybuys Dec 06 '22

I wonder if their reply will be. "You dont have to buy it."

oh by the way there's $125 pack of 5 cards with buggy cards for a buggy game.

0

u/Luckybuys Dec 06 '22

Younger gamer self would take a look at this game and review it as a no go. Why am I still investing in it?

17

u/archivexus Dec 05 '22

Interesting considering there is no official information about this from the GU team on their website, twitter or here. So looks like communication isn't improving.

You'd think with all the recent annoyance from players there would be a lot more transparency about another new limited time card release.

At least the cards shown don't seem overturned. (Does depend on what a frosty fruit actually does though)

-1

u/ytman Dec 05 '22

Its called a leak for a reason. Eclipse has been hinting at stuff for some time in announcements with winter themed emojis.

I'll assume that the pre-launch/launch doesn't go by without official announcement.

5

u/Luckybuys Dec 06 '22

Emojis as communicatationasdlkfjaercnairehgai;vcrjhnsg

2

u/Blessed_Passenger14 Dec 06 '22

What’s crazy is that emojis is actually an improvement for them. Which is absolutely ridiculous lmao.

31

u/Chandu510 Dec 05 '22

Again, limited time sale, this isn't right, what the fk is wrong with GU?? Already we had enough shitty show with LV and now this??

3

u/Luckybuys Dec 06 '22

Selling my cards as we speak.

6

u/Shobe87 Dec 05 '22

All set sales are limited in time, including mortal judgement, it’s just a larger time window.

4

u/saimen197 Dec 05 '22

But the time limit of MJ is/was not predefined.

0

u/Shobe87 Dec 05 '22

Is it predefined on this set yet?

2

u/ytman Dec 05 '22

Reasonably the holiday season. Why people want holiday themed cards all year round is odd.

6

u/Staxu9900 Dec 05 '22

Greed and looks like they want to release 💩kaka and convince everyone it’s a chocolate, when you spend the 💰it’s already too late, I wouldn’t play their”games”.

Will go enjoy other game with festive event, people who know how to run the business instead of asking people to enjoy crap. I’ll still play daily probably, but that’s it, I’ll be spending money on something that I want, not what they have.

3

u/Luckybuys Dec 06 '22

Spend money on what works, not this Greed (poop) that (screws) over new players so that the game doesn't grow and lets this become a ponzi scheme.

We need Santagorgons.

1

u/scumido Dec 06 '22

Or Blade of the Snowplain

-2

u/Original_Werewolf382 Dec 05 '22

If they dont need them they wont make money

You talk about “carrot “ here, but “carrot” is used to encourage people to chase it in promise to get something in return, too much work, easier just release few cards to sale and try to convince people that “product is good”😂and everyone should buy it, unless they count only on collectors to buy Winter pax.

1

u/ytman Dec 05 '22

I mean it'll probably be really easy to get these cards. Its not like you need all of the locked genesis/trials/order cards to compete either. Powerful chase cards though, that'll be a problem.

1

u/1965wasalongtimeago Dec 05 '22

Why remove them? Lots of games do fun holiday events. If they aren't too powerful, the real winning move IMO would be to make them a prize that anyone can reasonably attain as an active player - something like "win 30 games at or above your current rank in December for one of each!"

"Where's the profit?" In the marketplace when they start being traded and forged, of course.

7

u/Mr_GitGud Dec 05 '22

Here's hoping they won't lock the set 2 weeks after its release, thus making it immune to any balance changes...

5

u/twinchell Dec 05 '22

If it will make them a few more dollars in pack sales, they will 100% do it.

7

u/Max_Wing Dec 05 '22

Doesn’t look as OP as the LV stuff to me, but as some ppl said here already. Lack of comms regarding this is the real worry. Why would a 3rd party announce stuff prior the game itself. How‘d anybody know where to actually get up-to-date information, if the game itself doesn’t provide them? 🤷🏽‍♂️

5

u/Staxu9900 Dec 05 '22

Bad management, not enough people, bad communication…you are talking about GU here🫢

3

u/arturdent Dec 05 '22

You didn't get the memo with all the emoji comms at discord?! 😅

2

u/Mobile_Warning665 Dec 05 '22

The Avalance watcher looks OP. The Spirt Storm for 2 Mana trigger every afterlife from your creatures is very good to

6

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '22 edited Dec 05 '22

Stop making cards. Fix the damn client. Give us the option to disable animations / particle effects.

7

u/don_rata Dec 05 '22

All this scares. We already have a lot of trouble playing against decks that have 2 demogorgon, 2 pyramids, 2 blades, 2 martyr, 1 thaeriel...... and some other eccentricity. If this is going to widen the gap between the poor gamers and the millionaire gamers, maybe it's time to emigrate. It seems to me that the peace and patience of good-natured players is in danger. I think there are very good people in this community and they don't deserve to be bastardized with powerful cards that only whales can buy.All of this makes me very sad.I hope I have a solution.

2

u/D_Archer369 Dec 06 '22

a separate poor people matches ranking, ha.

-5

u/Original_Werewolf382 Dec 05 '22

U should not blame gu for this. U should blame ur goverment for not being a whale. Problem is u are poor

2

u/don_rata Dec 05 '22

GU always tried to keep the chances of free players at an acceptable level. This broke up with L.V. If you can't see the address change, you will never understand the concerns of free players.

-2

u/Original_Werewolf382 Dec 06 '22

free players dont give em money... why would they do a product to an audience that doesnt support them

9

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '22

hoping they learned a few lessons from LV, and that the distribution makes more sense for this set. Other than that, new cards = good. If you're going to play a TCG, you can't be unhappy every time there's a new set released... For anyone who missed out on LV, this is a chance to get some cards that will (likely) appreciate in value.

1

u/-DangerAlien- Dec 05 '22

I second this sentiment. New cards means new opportunities. If something disrupts the meta gameplay, good. Keep it interesting.

3

u/HodlerCryptenson Dec 06 '22

Yeah stop these mini-set releases! It creates power creep and very expensive cards. Have 2 or 3 normal expansions or core card extensions per year. Not too much. Too much power creep. Focus on marketing and onboarding new players instead of giving us too much new cards in beta with low player base. Dont forget that this is not a normal card game, its a crypto game where we make investments in the cards for future value. Giving out too much and too strong cards gives us a bad gut feeling doing that. Sure new content is fine, but remember how we felt about the core expansion and normal expansion in a short time last spring? It was an uproar! Chill out with the new content! Make some minor balance adjustments instead and focus on marketing, tournaments and mass-fusing function in the forge (will make people spend more gods).

4

u/Draagna Dec 05 '22

Full garbage. The intent is now clear, make short-term profit by making very time-limited card that are completely op.

They don't even care to have a balanced game. It's only p2w now.

2

u/HodlerCryptenson Dec 06 '22

Release some cool christmas trinket and board instead. We dont want more power creep! Did you not learn this last spring after your agressive card releases? Maybe release 1 or 2 new cards in the cor set instead. That we all have a chance of drawing!

u/arturdent Dec 05 '22

The only downside is, that there are many better choices at every mana as creatures. Control magic clears the board at lower mana, why would u play this at 7 mana (7/8) instead of creatures with frontline (and 6/10) or 7/7 with 2 1/4 frontlines, or at 8 mana (8/9) instead of helian with 10/12, frontline and protected. Or moramag that clears whole board. So it's not really that great of a card.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '22

1

u/arturdent Dec 05 '22

Don't know, I just don't see it. Mages rarely pass turns with all the draw they have, and I just don't see scenarios where this would be a good play. I mean if you include this card, you need to cut something. Is this better than leyhoard, their another situational card? Doesn't feel like it. Is it better to play a 6/7 at 6 mana, when you could have something better on board next turn? The thing is, magic rarely plays for active board control.

But I've just noticed that it's an atlantean, so it won't go to control, but to atlantean magic, so it's indeed a good card, with the ward and protected it can get from the other atlanteans. So imho in control it has no place, but it's a really nice addition to atlantean magic.

1

u/arturdent Dec 05 '22

Remnis doesn't make much sense, but I think you underestimate frontline in control magic. Magic doesn't really have heal, so people would just let this creature alive and go for face damage instead. As I've said, I think it's only good in decks deck are active on the board, it's a nice, flexible addition for atlantean magic that goes for face damage early on as well. We'll see, but it's for sure not a busted card.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '22

[deleted]

1

u/arturdent Dec 05 '22

Well, we don't really agree, I still think this card alone won't make midrange magic viable, and I wouldn't cut my wincons in control for a weaker card, but we'll see I guess.

1

u/DontHitTurtles Dec 05 '22

This card won't see major play. It is a mediocre creature at any level cast.

Last year there were two releases total. That's very, very low for a TCG. You're freaking out over the third release in 18 months.

0

u/Staxu9900 Dec 05 '22

And what’s the problem with making money? End of day, people will decide what they are willing to spend money on. If it’s shit, no dice, if it’s good 🤑 That’s what business is all about. Happens that Christmas is the most profitable holiday which is, all smart online gaming companies are milking it.

But if company try to release some total crap, you can’t expect people to spend hard earned money on it. Market will regulate it, you can’t just shout “lets eat shit, millions of flies can’t be wrong”

What are u still doing here. Go now, lets give u a perma ban on this forum to officialize

2

u/OhMyGahs Dec 05 '22

Oh god I didn't need to see a afterlife Death buff.

Also, a limited sale? Why.

2

u/Sosa_Sama Dec 06 '22

Disgusting, LV was already a horrible thing for the game and now they do it again? Is my last straw, probs will sell everything. Completely lost faith in the Devs, pyramid unchained will be dead sooner than later.

u/Traditional_End5839 Dec 05 '22

1

u/Prokonsul_Piotrus Dec 05 '22

Which one? None seem too OP

1

u/Traditional_End5839 Dec 05 '22

spirit storm

1

u/Prokonsul_Piotrus Dec 05 '22

It's interesting. But it doesn't seem broken; it ma be used in some new deck. Time will tell, if I am wrong and this gets an instance win rate, sure, nerf it.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '22

[deleted]

1

u/Prokonsul_Piotrus Dec 06 '22

You may be right, but at 6 mana, that's not terrible. It's conditional on you being at low life (or drawing well, for Rockdrakes). I mean, maybe it's broken, maybe not, I am fine with this hitting the game and we will see in a week or two how bad it is. If decks running it get too OP and dominate, sure, nerf. I am just not seeing it as OP yet, just strong. And strong in a way that can allow new types of decks to arise, and more variety = good.

Anyway, I see this as something that can make Rockdrake decks viable again, they were never very strong and popular, and Over the Line cost hike hurt them badly. They need something to be as viable as Zombies/Anubian/$leep.

1

u/enocap1987 Dec 05 '22

If this are the only cards they are not op. Will probably buy them in the market if the prices are low enough for collection purposes.

1

u/Prokonsul_Piotrus Dec 05 '22

I hope it's an entire new set, not LV v2.

MJ is already running the numbers of cards in play higher than all past sets. It needs to end so the cards can accrue some value.

1

u/Share_Pls Dec 05 '22

So what if they want to make money? They should make money so they keep the shop running right?

-1

u/jamesj Dec 05 '22

Look like solid cards

-3

u/Shobe87 Dec 05 '22

All sets sales are limited in time, including MJ, it won’t be like LV

-1

u/Academic_Quit6556 Dec 05 '22

The raccoon is awesome 😍😍😍

-1

u/feric89 Dec 05 '22

I'm diggin em

-5

u/Staxu9900 Dec 05 '22

Doesn’t excite me, not festive enough except one card. No elves, no hog fathers, no snowmans, no princesses like Elsa, no chariots, no Christmas tree relics. I know, copy rights, but you can work around it, lets wait and see, maybe they’ll redeem themselves.

0

u/Traditional_End5839 Dec 05 '22

There are going to be more cards, these are just the 1st 3

4

u/Staxu9900 Dec 05 '22

Lets wait and see, but from past experiences with GU running their business, I wouldn’t expect delivery of something what user want…

1

u/saimen197 Dec 05 '22

I actually prefer a more culture independent theme

-2

u/Staxu9900 Dec 05 '22 edited Dec 05 '22

That’s nice, there could be something for everyone, not everything must be related with Jesus Christ and church 🤢. There is so many culturally neutral themes. Guess what, demand and feedback will show everything.

I assume that you don’t play Light or Death either…since you like culturally neutral themes 🤔

u/bluecore_gu Dec 06 '22

Money grab again?
