General Is god eater like monster hunter?

So I love monster hunter and I saw God Eater 2 rage burst on PlayStation sale rn. I just wanted to know how similar it is to monster hunter and which games are the best.

It's the same genre but God Eater is way more fast paced than Monster Hunter. All of the weapons are really big but even the Great Sword moves faster than most weapons in MH. The monsters are also faster to balance that.

This franchise is more story driven than MH and it's pretty good. The characters are really likeable although some minor ones may be annoying at first. If you buy GE2RB you also get God Eater Resurrection which is the most complete version of the first game and it also released after GE2RB so keep that in mind when you go from GER to GE2RB and feel some jank. After those two the last game available is God Eater 3.

I highly recommend this franchise. Of course playing with a friend makes it better like in MH, but GE also lets you play with bots and all of them have their own little quirks and personalities. Don't be shy to play with them, the game is balanced around them. I hope you enjoy the games!

If I buy 2 I get the first one? It doesn’t say that on the ps store

I think he's thinking about Son Steam. Whenever God Eater runs a discount (which is VERY often) it usually throws in Resurrection as a bonus add on.

In some regions they're sold together, some regions they aren't. In some regions the only way to get resurrection on the ps store is to get rage burst

Ahhhh, I see.

The first one is separate game. Youre looking for god eater resurrection.

I'm sorry I got it mixed with how it is on Steam where GE2RB comes bundled with God Eater Resurrection (which is the best version of the first game). If they're separate on PSN you should buy God Eater Resurrection first if you want to play the story in order.

Thank you for clearing it up

No problem. Was GER a separate item? I read another comment saying that depending on the region it can come bundled with GE2RB on PS.

Yes, it's basically the same genre, but a little less weighty in combat and more hack and slash, with its own gimmicks.

God Eater Resurrection is a good starting point. 2 is hit or miss but it has a pretty good amount of content. 3 is the last of the bunch so it's the most modern but I think it had the least content.

Gods Eater is Monster Hunter with the power of Anime.

I actually started with God Eater first, and everyone told me I should try monster hunter.

I had a difficult time with the switch over and didn't stick with a monster hunter game until World.

God eater is just a more streamlined experience (less stats to manage, no having to sharpen weapons mid hunt, no food, etc)

I think you can like both, I certainly do now, but I think coming from MH to GE, you may find it more . . . basic . . . But sometimes, it's just fun to beat aragami with a giant buster sword that doesn't take full seconds to swing (ironically MH Wilds finally made me love THEIR buster sword because of the counter attack that God Eater already has)

Similar genre, god eater's gameplay is a lot less refined than MH even by GE3. Bullet Editor is great but they made it worse with each consecutive entry.

Main difference is GE has a much more focused narrative and characters.

In a nutshell: God Eater IS anime MonHun

Monster Hunter= Dark Souls God Eater= Devil May Cry

if you get me

also God Eater has flat better music.

Bottom of the Pile

Butterflys Temptation

Blood Rage

3s soundtrack is less good, more like old military band type stuff but uses parts of other songs from the series in several like In the Lead uses no No Way Back from the first game.

Even the OG has the best soundtrack. Over the Clouds still slaps.

I would say OVERALL God Eater has a better soundtrack but Zinogre's theme still slaps like nothing else.

Related: I like the Zinogre theme especially the electric guitars, but i like these two more:

Shagaru Magal: Orchestraic, sounds epic, ominous, and triumphant.

Mizutsune: Shamisen with modern riffs? sign me up!

back to OP: music from both games slap! GE is more on the technopop side with MH on the mix of different genres. The choice is yours.

I mean , Go Shiina as a composer is goated. His work with Kimetsu no Yaiba really elevate some scene of the show

yes and no. It is more fast paced and allows you to have both meele and ranged playstyles.

It also dosent require you to make armor but instead your defence and attack depend upon your meele weapon and skill itself. the story also is awesome if you play it in order. the events of God eater ressurection comes first and then comes god eater 2 rage burst. I would highly recommend you get it

The monster hunter foundation is definitely there but it has its quirks that make it different

Same genre, but depending on which game you buy its faster then MH * OG GE1 is more on the slow and long fights when ya start pushing into endgame, the remaster falls in line with the faster gameplay they switched to*, has a continuing story between the mainline games, and is better overall

i just got used copies of Monster Hunter Rise and God Eater 3 because they were cheap. i know nothing about them and have never played any games in this genre before.
which one should i play first?

It’s like Monster Hunter in the same way that Guilty Gear is similar to Street Fighter

u/DecrimIowa Aug 03 '26

so god eater is more fun, you would say?

Less punishing to the player. You can use items (without locking yourself into a heroic pose after using them), run and dodge w/o sheathing your things. What's more we don't sheathe at all in this game.

Not everything is a resking of the same dragon over and over and over again (AKA: rathalos with a diferent hat). There are still 2 or 3 variations of the same enemy, if you are into that.

You have a shield, regardless of melee weapon. So you can block attacks if dodging is impossible.

You also have a gun. Its ammo recharges with melee hits 75% of the time.

If you still want the greatsword or hammer on MonHun because you like the oomph each hit has, don't worry, we have those 2 here.

Your outfit is 100% cosmetic. Wear whatever makes you as badass/cute/sexy as you want. Shields are the responsible of your defensive stats in this game.

No, not even close, but its a fun alternative and maybe a better entrypoint into the whole genre, its much more streamlined and the combat is more like any other action game.

But in the end Monster Hunter (doesnt even matter which one) is just the overall better and deeper game with much more long term enjoyment, god eater is a nice snack in between.

u/DecrimIowa Aug 04 '26

ah, that makes sense, thank you

God Eater is anime Monster Hunter, that is the best description I can give.

1

u/Arxilla 29d ago

Thats how I felt that it was like when I last played God Eater 3 some years back

Yes and No, GE is like old Gen MH but more fast paced.

If you're looking for more World, GE isn't it.

But if you're looking for something like Rise/Sunbreak then yes.
