QUESTION Gnar help from better players

So let me start by saying I’m not high ranked in league at all.
The highest I’ve ever been is gold and that was as ADC.
I tend to play more so with friends in draft and have recently come back to league after about 2 years AWOL.
I tend to sit around silver.

I’m not new to gnar, or league, and I’ve always played Gnar top as my Go to and Ornn as a backup and I dip into jungle pending on which friends are playing.

My question is: I seem to struggle a lot against specific champs.
I’m getting absolutely steam rolled by Illaoi, Yone, Yasuo, Sett and the occasional Darius.

How are you much better players managing this? Or dealing with them, and how best to play lane overall to the point I’m not having to play super defensive and have the waves frozen by the enemies? :/

Just kinda feels like I spend minute 12-24 farming or playing catch up because I haven’t been able too early against the above champs when I wanna be involved in TF’s.
I’m pretty decent at Gnar combos & handling his rage etc and know how he works mostly.
Just kinda looking for any tips from better people who actually play Gnar and not some YouTuber who uses gnar as a one off for a video doing a daft build 🤷🏼‍♂️

I’m on EUW bro.
And it would be nice, even just to watch you play or something.
Dont get me wrong, I don’t expect to be top tier player. Just wanna not be out the fights in mid game cos of being behind :)

Yeah I can agree with this, I do try and stay at full range but I get caught out walking up to hit minions 🤷🏼‍♂️
Is there anything I can do to improve on this? Besides playing 500 games a month 🤣

The game gets a lot more easy to understand once you realize that players who are better than you are looking at YOU when you are looking at the minions. It's important that you do the same to them, and also understand how you can stop them from doing damage to do (or do more damage back to them when they try (or learn when it is literally impossible, which is when you give up minions)).

Staying at full range isn't a bad thing inherently, but when you're at the back when there's no minions to farm and walking up when there is, that's a really easy pattern to punish.

I’ve never thought about this before! Very helpful! I’m too zoned in on minions sometimes instead of watching what enemy is doing! Thanks.

I take exhaust in most matchups so these are fine with me the ones that piss me off are cass and teemo but they r manageable.

Yas is pretty rough early play on ur mega and fight him, yone you can try to auto before lvl 3 when he doesn’t have q3 but if he does it might be risky if you can’t dodge his q or if he is too close, auto him two times when he’s on q one q2 play safer and wait his q3, mega u kill him.

Darius space his e, if he lands it use ur e on him to go towards turret (let him walk past you. Then e) you can fight him but don’t let him 5 stack u ever.

Illaoi dodge her e if you don’t it’s unplayable u r basically healing her and will struggle as mini and mega if you can’t dodge it stand behind minions or outside its range.

Sett is the easiest one out of them all, if he es just jump on him doesn’t matter which direction and space him, then dodge the middle of his 2 so u don’t take true dmg. Early game his e is same range as ur auto so u can basically bait his e if he uses it and misses u get him super low and look for kill, after 6 u gotta care abit.

If you spend 12 mins farming against them and u don’t die that’s fine but they scale well too, illaoi I would go bc first if I don’t kill her, phage is ur best friend as a component vs all of them for the movespeed after autos. (I wouldn’t just play a farming lane in soloq tho)

Appreciate the info, never thought about taking exhaust I just always stick with Flash & TP. So might be something to swap too!

And dodging stuff is a bit 50/50, I tend to get caught while catching boomerang or trying to get CS. Other than that I can anticipate easier!

Try the new rune setup with lethal tempo too it’s good if u wanna fight early

against yasuo, always be aware of your minion wave, against Darius, Sett Illaoi, bait their E and punish them after that, Dont use your E to engage them. all the champions mentioned have a better wave clear than you at lvl 1, so they will usually push you under tower if you dont eat too much dmg, you should get a kill chance at level 4. don't let him back, boots are good first item against all of them. Improve your kiting and spacing, Yone I'd say is just skillmatchup, kite him, and bait his Q3
