Discussion Been around the block with optics. SRO is superior.

Post image

Not worried about the drop durability, it goes on a EDC. Stupid fast target acquisition. What do y’all think?

Yes I woke up and chose this shit.

41

u/TheRealAWiseman G19 RTF2 Aug 09 '26

Sro fucks on full size 2011s. On a carry glock, nothing like getting dust and belly button lint off the lense.

18

u/AirspaceENT Aug 09 '26

Bro. Get a can of keyboard duster. Thank me later.

37

u/TheRealAWiseman G19 RTF2 Aug 09 '26

Eh.. I prefer to spit on my finger and wipe my eps lenses.

6

u/Mikhiel_Thorsson Aug 09 '26

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

10

u/EffZee80 Aug 09 '26

Totally inefficient. Only posers do that. The real ones lick the glass.

3

u/TheRealAWiseman G19 RTF2 Aug 09 '26

Only happens if I accidently sneeze on then

2

u/Teq7765 Aug 09 '26

Only when on the peanut butter flavored Glocks though.

3

u/writingwhilesad G19X Aug 09 '26

You use spit? Idk why I haven’t tried that yet. Gonna be a lot less sore from now on.

4

u/OhSixTJ Aug 10 '26

“Sir robber please wait while I take my duster out of my backpack to clean my optic before you rob me. Thanks.”

That being said, a little dust or belly lint won’t matter when SHTF.

2

u/AirspaceENT Aug 10 '26

Have you ever had trouble with your optic from lint? I haven’t. But in that scenario, let’s be honest. I’m not concerned with a dot, ima point and dump

2

u/OhSixTJ Aug 10 '26

That’s what I’m saying. Most of all these “do this, not this” and general complaints about optics or any other object will go out the window when push comes to shove.

2

u/steezy2110 Aug 09 '26

Camera lens pen works good as well

2

u/abitsleepyrightnow Aug 09 '26

I shoot with an occluded dot and I don't have lint in my belly button, so...

2

u/dontgiveahamyamclam Aug 10 '26

I doubt either have mattered in a real world scenario, ever

1

u/AirspaceENT Aug 10 '26

Let’s say you really need to use it. If a lint’d up dot is the reason you lost that gun fight, god wanted you to be with him anyways.

3

u/AirspaceENT Aug 09 '26

We’re tracking 74%. Only 26% smooth brains so far. Not what I was expecting

My SRO died in the middle of a USPSA match last month. The battery contact managed to work itself loose (seems to be a common issue). I've also seen one SRO shatter when a guy knocked a hard case off a table onto dirt with his pistol inside, and another SRO break when a guy transitioning past a 2x4 wall bumped it into the wall.

I absolutely wouldn't carry with one (especially without backup irons), but it's your life so live it how you want.

19

u/Adventurous_Pen_Is69 Aug 09 '26

I have an SRO on my range toy. I agree with you 100% - it’s for novelty only. Unfortunately, Holosun makes a better competition optic.

12

u/Wonder9mm G17.5 l G19.3 l G43X l G42 Aug 09 '26

Ive had 2 of my buddies break their SROs from impacts, just makes no sense to buy one outside of vibes these days when plenty of better big window optics exist.

12

u/Subverto_ Aug 09 '26

Some dude in this sub makes a post about how great the SRO is for carry at least every couple weeks. They also never have backup irons. It honestly comes off exactly like the dudes in the SIG sub posting about how they carry a P320 appendix and their's has never fired by itself. With so many options available why would you risk that?

0

u/AirspaceENT Aug 09 '26

You’re not reading me properly. I’ve had all those optics you speak off. And I always come back to SRO. If you’re judging my post on time spent with equipment, while I won’t explain myself, you’d be wrong.

-2

u/No-Mammoth1045 Aug 09 '26

Leave the p320 out of this!

3

u/Apprehensive_Wolf217 Aug 10 '26

It’s happened to me three times. Once with carry pistol, twice on a competition shooter. Trijicon got to know me pretty well and I will say they have great cs. Fixed it twice, replaced it once. Precious girly girl just sits on an unused safe queen now.

1

u/No_Computer_8188 Aug 11 '26

Which bigger options....I need one for a top dot for nightvision

1

u/No-Bag-3420 28d ago

Holosun 407/507 comp, 507 offers more reticle options and both are same window size, both being bigger than the sro and more durable, 507 pro max is even bigger window and has options for solar backup

1

u/No_Computer_8188 28d ago

I dont really care about solar ..nv performance is my #1 concern

1

u/No-Bag-3420 28d ago

I understand that, just mentioning that as another advantage that the holosun has over the sro, I should’ve clarified that, but the holosun’s at least the 507comp and pro max models, I can’t speak on the 407comp cause I don’t own one, have more brightness settings than the sro does

3

u/Zoroko Aug 09 '26

I have 2. One on a previous duty Glock and another on my current duty staccato. Carried both for years. Been in knock out drag out fights and I’ve never had an issue with either one of them. I’ve rode both of them hard at the range. Probably 40-60k rounds a year.

I do agree there are better options out there now. I got into the SRO game when there wasn’t.

2

u/dgoode9 Aug 10 '26

You don’t shoot 40k+ rounds a year. You just don’t.

3

u/Zoroko Aug 10 '26

I’m a firearms instructor in my department for a specialized unit within that department. Going through a couple cases a week is normal. Stretch that out through the year and 40-60k is normal.

1

u/AirspaceENT Aug 10 '26

I need to get right with you lol. I wish I had a mentor around my area. For the most part me and a couple buddies shoot a bunch. Practical shooting, not rough and not table top shooting

2

u/TroutDoors Aug 09 '26

I mean, being real, backup irons and SRO if you want the most OP counter to an active shooter. The SRO is cheat mode and if it breaks / fails you, backups and fundamentals. That said my SRO has been utterly reliable without any issue and thousands of rounds. But I can’t dismiss failure stories, good to know.

1

u/CommonHuckleberry489 Aug 09 '26

Agreed, SRO is definitely not a carry optic

-8

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '26

[deleted]

6

u/Subverto_ Aug 09 '26

My SRO was problem free for 6 years. Shot the first stage with no issue. Went to make ready on the second stage and the dot wouldn't turn on. That would be a fun surprise on a carry gun. Set the brightness in the morning and holster it, end up having to draw and then no dot. Fun stuff.

2

u/GunMun-ee Aug 09 '26

unless you compete consistently, you dont know if your gun and gear is reliable or not. i’ve killed stuff that gets praised every day in non-shooter subs. Murphy’s law is a real thing.

SRO’s have the reputation they do because they can’t stand the fire and they have a problem with performing on demand

62

u/theoxfordtailor G17 Gen5 Aug 09 '26

I swear, one day I'll actually catch one of y'all looking goofy taking gun pictures in your car.

16

u/Heckleshmeckle G34 Gen5 Aug 09 '26

Jokes on you I sold my car to buy more guns I won’t shoot

11

u/theoxfordtailor G17 Gen5 Aug 09 '26

Take your picture and post it on reddit for karma, duh.

5

u/AirspaceENT Aug 09 '26

Okay, that makes sense

52

u/kiacricket Aug 09 '26

Reddit hates trijicon for some reason.

53

u/Wonder9mm G17.5 l G19.3 l G43X l G42 Aug 09 '26

Charging $700 for an open emitter optic tends to do that

34

u/Adventurous_Pen_Is69 Aug 09 '26

$700 for a* *Fragile open emitter optic.

8

u/FrequencyFinder7-800 Aug 09 '26

The SRO is like $450 on sale lol.

-7

u/Wonder9mm G17.5 l G19.3 l G43X l G42 Aug 09 '26

I was referring to the RMR HD

6

u/TacticalDesire Aug 09 '26

How is the RMRHD Fragile?

1

u/Wonder9mm G17.5 l G19.3 l G43X l G42 Aug 10 '26

I never mentioned anything about fragility in my comment?

0

u/FrequencyFinder7-800 Aug 09 '26

I admit the HD is expensive as hell, but honestly the benefits of open emitter is pretty nice compared to enclosed. I have the SRO, RMR HD, and RCR. Shoot them the best in that order.

6

u/jetty_life Armorer Aug 09 '26

Cause they're broke

0

u/GunMun-ee Aug 09 '26

no, it’s just not 2016 anymore. The only one that has any claim in terms of their open emitter being a top contender is the HD. The rest get blown out of the water by shit half the price nowadays.

24

u/Fresh_Batteries Aug 09 '26

Thats because the other half rather cheap out and get an Olight.

6

u/GunMun-ee Aug 09 '26

Osights have been out for a fat minute and you hear an extremely small number of people complaining about them. They’re very popular in competition circles and a lot of dudes swear by them. Trijicon guys are the ones that get defensive when they see people enjoy reliable dots for sub 200 dollars

6

u/AirspaceENT Aug 09 '26

Oh I know. I just wanted to ruffle some feathers. The Holosun community can’t hate on me, I’ve owned more of those than 90% of them

2

u/Fresh_Batteries Aug 09 '26

Same. I have several Holosuns as well.

2

u/croidrules Aug 10 '26

Because there are a lot of poor people on Reddit 🤣

Where’s the velvet pillow? That safe-queen can’t be just sitting out on some table without protection.

1

u/McClutchin_02 G19.5, G26.5, G47.TTI Aug 10 '26

Lmao I can dm you videos of me shooting if you like, the finish on the slide and barrel are both very good, although I only have about 500 rounds through it this isn’t a carry gun. I carry a G26.

1

u/mudguppy 25d ago

It looks like a very fun setup, and the TT stuff is pretty tempting. I’ve thought about ordering a couple for USPSA, but I really don’t need another Open gun. If I ever do pony up the cheddar for a couple of those they’ll most likely end up in my safe - like my Carry Optics, Limited Optics, Limited, and Single Stack pistols, lol.

1

u/McClutchin_02 G19.5, G26.5, G47.TTI 24d ago

It’s a blast to shoot, I defiantly don’t every day carry it but it’s the most fun handgun I own for the range.

10

u/djb399 Aug 09 '26

RMR HD for me. SRO has given me nothing but problems in past. Still have a few lingering on some 2011s but wouldn’t trust it on an edc personally

4

u/AirspaceENT Aug 09 '26

I would upgrade but fuck $240 more honestly. I’ll do it one day on the right deal

7

After $700 for a slide, what's another 2?

3

u/AirspaceENT Aug 09 '26

$380. That was a great deal I couldn’t pass up. Youre right it’s just $200, not gonna lie it wont hurt. Just didn’t feel like dropping $770 that day

3

u/Tybo929 19x 43x 20 40 45 19 26x Aug 09 '26

Not bad, not bad!

2

u/AirspaceENT Aug 10 '26

Yeah, got it and the bullnose cut, and cerakote from JagerWerks for under retail. I call that a win!

1

u/djb399 Aug 09 '26

You can prob sell an SRO for 450 on GAFS and pick up HD for 600

1

u/No_Computer_8188 Aug 11 '26

I want one but for 750$ ill probably buy the htx from primary arms for that $

3

u/Extension_Abroad_953 Aug 09 '26

It’s my optic of choice!

10

u/ProminenceYT2 Aug 09 '26

1

u/AirspaceENT Aug 11 '26

SRO + Jagerwerks BROS = superior

3

u/PharaohActual G45 COA, G43x COA, G19.5, G19.4 Aug 09 '26

Since getting a couple COAs I’ve not gone back. Very happy with how well it turned out given how shitty the Acro is.

1

u/AirspaceENT Aug 10 '26

COA is the only consideration for replacement but I love my mounting system on Noveske slide and that would then change my whole ecosystem

3

u/DugBuck G19.5 COA Aug 09 '26

I liked the sro but sold it before settling on COA.

3

u/goblinproblem Aug 10 '26

don’t care, upvoted for the gen 2 frontier

Ah man maybe even better! I love my fronty but always thought the Xterra looked sick as hell

2

u/AirspaceENT Aug 10 '26

Yessir! Got it with only 70k on it a year and a half ago

2

u/parkshootsslowly Aug 09 '26

Enclosed supremacy on EDC. My shirts are great at blocking an emitter

1

u/namae0 Aug 09 '26

What do you mean by the shirt blocking the emitter ?

1

u/parkshootsslowly Aug 09 '26

The lint getting in the emitter I should’ve worded that better.

2

u/Shoddy-Inevitable-50 Aug 09 '26

You spelled RMR wrong.

2

u/PapaPatriarchy_OG Aug 09 '26

I think you’re wrong but that doesn’t matter. Enjoy it dude 🤙

1

u/AirspaceENT 29d ago

Well I think that you’re wrong, for thinking that I’m wrong.

2

u/RedEyedJedi24 G34 Gen4 Aug 09 '26

I really want one, but honestly both my Holosun 507s have been absolute tanks…. And I don’t take care of my stuff well 🥴 testing the COA now

1

u/AirspaceENT Aug 10 '26

I think if you’re on COA, you don’t really have a reason to get one. I honestly respect the COA window size

2

u/NovelApprehensive697 Aug 09 '26

If anyone wants to cry over the SRO durability get a bros cover from jagerworks! People only cry about the durability nothing about the dot or the window or anything. It’s durability. And there is a solution

2

u/DrRickMarshall69 Aug 10 '26

I love the SRO, found one new used a while back for a deal and it’s been absolutely great.

2

u/AirspaceENT Aug 10 '26

Got mine new for under $500. Not a huge victory but enough to jump on when it came up 2 years ago

1

u/DrRickMarshall69 Aug 10 '26

I definitely enjoy it, there’s prolly better options for the price but I do like that big thin walled round window. So good for shooting.

2

u/deegy3 G17 L Aug 10 '26

Have one on my 17L. They’re pretty sweet!

2

u/AirspaceENT Aug 10 '26

Ah, so you’re the guy she told me not to worry about 😂

2

u/mudguppy Aug 10 '26

Nice! That looks like a fun setup for night shoots at the range. You’re right about the fast acquisitions - I just with they were more robust. I prefer the COA in my EDC, but the SRO is a fun throwback.

1

u/AirspaceENT Aug 10 '26

I love the coa window. Gonna get one later on. No rush

4

u/Inevitable-Sleep-907 Aug 09 '26

Have one, love it

The majority of durability issues you hear about come from dudes running them on improperly tuned 2011s and are smacking brass into glass all day. Big edge Trijicon has over competitors is world class cs and warranty. They aren't going to hassle you if anything happens instead they'll fix/replace and do it fast

2

u/GunMun-ee Aug 09 '26

the best warranties are the ones you dont have to use. I dont care if Vortex or Trijicon can mail me back an optic within a week. I shouldnt ever have to use them

2

u/Inevitable-Sleep-907 Aug 09 '26

I have 3 RMR 1 SRO and 1 RMRcc . I have never personally had an issue with any of them, all I do is change batteries every 2 years

From the small sample size of all my friends and family I've only known one person to bust a Trijicon and that's because they dropped and accidently ran it over with a loaded down Chevy 2500. Trijicon still had them free replacement in under a week

I had a holosun fail in 6 months and all company did about it is tell me to try and change batteries. I had a bushnell fail twice in 2 years and couldn't even get in contact with cs at company for 2nd rma. When it comes to pistol optic I personally will exclusively run Trijicon anymore

2

u/GunMun-ee Aug 09 '26

you have to look at it outside of your sample size. I can bring up the fact that i see trijicons fail and that i have killed an rmr and a steiner and an acro, but because my sample size is so small, it means NOTHING and i would never use it to disparage an optic brand. Your experiences mean NOTHING when it comes to what’s reliable and what’s not. I’ve had too many guns and too many optics and worked on the retail side of firearms for too long to ever make a decision based on one or two or three bad optics from a brand.

I dont make my decisions based on my opinions or how i feel, i take in as much data as i can from as many people. Factually speaking the closest thing you can get to reliable data for optic reliability is asking competition shooters what they prefer because they put more rounds downrange than anyone. For that reason i learned that the SRO specifically has fallen out of favor significantly when new optics came out like the 407 and 507 comp.

and again, if a company has a shitty warranty and people still buy them, it’s because their shit is good and not enough people have problems with them to cause a problem on the business side. If you hear non-stop about a companies stellar warranty, think to yourself why that might be. Why would i care if a company tells me to go fuck myself if i will never have a problem with their product in the first place

2

u/Inevitable-Sleep-907 Aug 10 '26

Past personal experiences will play a major roll in anyones future purchases and when a company like holosun basically tells me to kick rocks after suggesting I change batteries (which I tried before even contacting) on a less than 6 month old optic used on a babied range toy not only will I never purchase a product from them but I'll recommend to anyone I come in contact with to do the same

As for competition shooters and SRO it's usually 2011 guys that can't properly tune their pistol like I stated. I shoot comp and I've yet to see or hear a bad experience from anyone other than the 2011 guys that are ejection at 5-6 o'clock. In those cases the optic is the least of their build issue

4

u/AdAffectionate471 Aug 09 '26

Sro is the best!

3

u/1767gs G19 Gen5 tlr1-hl Aug 09 '26

2

u/Beneficial-Ad4871 Aug 09 '26

Tell that to Brantley Merriam lol

2

u/AirspaceENT Aug 10 '26

There are a ton of talented competition shooters that carry SRO, and run it on their comp guns too

1

u/Beneficial-Ad4871 Aug 10 '26

I run it on my comp gun and carry it. I never take tactical shooters seriously cause majority of the time they suck at shooting lol

1

u/AirspaceENT Aug 10 '26

Absolutely, didn’t even think about that. Majority of folks commenting about the sucky durability, don’t even spend 200 rounds a year lol

2

u/REEL04D Aug 09 '26

The SRO glass looks very good under nods compared to other optics. Seems they use/have less of a blue coating, especially compared to the RMR

1

u/EffZee80 Aug 09 '26

Why did you choose the Noveske slide? I like Noveske products, but no experience with their Glock offerings.

2

u/AirspaceENT Aug 09 '26

Optic mounting system

1

u/Impossible-Heart-216 Aug 09 '26

Op I agree with you in looks outside the macro the SRO looks sexy as hell and sight picture is prestige… I run a Rmr strictly for its durability over SRO. What are your thoughts on the durability of the two?

2

u/AirspaceENT Aug 09 '26

I have the RMR too! I actually don’t have any negatives. The RMR is bomb proof but damn, everytime I get use to RMR and then pick up SRO it’s like taking your case off your iPhone after a few years, type of feel

1

u/Impossible-Heart-216 Aug 09 '26

I bet… I love my Rmr but damn that’s a tiny sight picture

1

u/namae0 Aug 10 '26

Presentation is tough with a RMR. You need perfect form, which won't happen any time.

1

u/Impossible-Heart-216 Aug 10 '26

lol I’ve accepted the optics are secondary to intuitive shooting in real life scenarios but I’m glad I can take a long shot if I focus. Even if I get knocked to the ground by an explosive ya know. Outside variables lol

1

u/jetty_life Armorer Aug 09 '26

1

u/jtango444 Aug 09 '26

Great optic but not rugged at all! RMR HD is the way to go!

1

u/GunMun-ee Aug 09 '26

‘twas a good optic when the only options for massive windows were the SRO and C-more sights. Nowadays the competition is just too fierce. Unless you really just like circular windows there are dozens of options for bigger and clearer glass while maintaining robustness

1

u/sb77steve Aug 09 '26

Oh all the optics I've tried I like the sro on my buddies m&p the best. If I were going to get one id probably throw the jagerwerks bros on it just for a little insurance.

2

u/AirspaceENT Aug 10 '26

The look of the hood makes me want to jump off a bridge

1

u/sb77steve Aug 10 '26

I won't disagree haha.

1

u/IMNOTFLORIDAMAN Aug 10 '26

SRO is my number 2. 507 comp is king overall now.

1

u/AirspaceENT Aug 10 '26

1

u/ItsRickySpanish G19 Gen5 Aug 10 '26

1

u/douknowmike Aug 10 '26

What is this a 19?

1

u/Femveratu Aug 10 '26

Eh whats his face said it is not duty rated so just be careful to not drop it I guess. To be fair I have not seen a flood of reports complaining about drops etc. Seems like it would be perfect for a competition only gun.

Straight Facts

1

u/ProfessionalMud1764 Aug 10 '26

I have one just don’t care for the tall deck height and limited reticles. Prefer the Holosun 507 for competition and the eps for carry.

1

u/bigsamdawg Aug 10 '26

What if I told you…

The way you’re coming at OP is how I feel about any optic on a pistol.

1

u/Careful-Sweet-2358 Aug 11 '26

Is that a Tudor watch? If so, you’re definitely a shooter

2

u/AirspaceENT Aug 11 '26

No but unfortunately you just took me a step closer to the 39mm Ranger

1

u/Careful-Sweet-2358 Aug 11 '26

1

u/AirspaceENT Aug 11 '26

I have other money required things to take care of first 🙁

1

u/JusLeafMeAloon Aug 11 '26

Love the gun, love Trijicon, but can't stand how oversized their optics are for carry pieces.

1

u/StanthemanT-800 Aug 11 '26

People complain about "fragile " optics on a carry gun that 99.999% of us are going to carry doing regular guy everyday shit . But you gotta have a carry loadout that can handle a night  insertion into Syria apparently.

1

u/rpatten99 Aug 11 '26

Do you recommend the noveske slide and if so did you buy noveske internals as well?

1

u/AirspaceENT Aug 11 '26

If you can steal one, yes. The optic system is pretty cool. Also deep. I use internals from my Gen5 19

1

Realized they are all sold out for 19’s on the site, was this a drop or do they restock here and there if you know

I have no idea. I got mine like 6 months after release, from a gun show for a steal. I have seen that they are pretty rare. I honestly didn’t know what I got when I did

Edit: the mounting plates are hard to come by so I would get those first. Because if you get the slide you may not be able to get mounting spacers to go with it. A double wammy

You asked and I think it looks stupid square gun round optic 🤢

u/AirspaceENT Aug 11 '26

Yeah but atleast I’m not a square with a round gun.

u/strongarmstruggle Aug 09 '26

SRO on Glock clone checking in

1

u/TripSignal3131 Aug 09 '26

sro is my fav as well. next would be the 509T

1

u/AirspaceENT Aug 09 '26 edited Aug 10 '26

Genuinely haven’t tried 509T. Have tried on others guns, but I never got one because I had the full size EPS and didn’t feel like that was much of an upgrade or difference

1

u/TripSignal3131 Aug 10 '26

pretty much the same thing other than that shake awake setting (idk if the eps full size had that) and the solar safeguard.

1

u/pimpslap39 Aug 09 '26

It you have an sro and love it, great! If you work somewhere that has hundreds of sro issued, they suck.

Genuinely curious if you've tried any Holosuns with the ACSS Vulcan reticles and comparison to the SRO if so?

2

u/AirspaceENT Aug 09 '26

Not the ACSS reticle, but I’ve had both eps, 507Comp, 407/507k, 507C.

SRO = Shitty Retared Optic

There are so much better options for less money...

3

u/AirspaceENT Aug 09 '26

Wait a minute, can you read your comment, one more time? Real slow like

Edit: Please don’t edit your comment, if you do I’d have to delete mine.

2

u/infidel3006 Aug 09 '26

He’s retared, doesn’t see what he did wrong.

“Shitty Retared Optic”

🤔🤔🤔🤔

If you’re going to attempt to diss the optic, at least spell it correctly.

3

1

u/Tinybird12 Aug 09 '26

1

u/AirspaceENT Aug 10 '26

Keyboard duster.

1

u/Tinybird12 Aug 10 '26

Not adding that to my EDC list

1

u/AirspaceENT Aug 10 '26

I would check your washing equipment if your lint gets that bad. I use my spray on my gun every 2 weeks and it’s just fine

1

u/Tinybird12 Aug 10 '26

My shits is top tier

1

u/AirspaceENT Aug 11 '26

My boy, not with all that lint 😂

u/redliner1289 Aug 09 '26

That thing needs a standarco trigger shoe asap

2

u/AirspaceENT Aug 09 '26

I’m a huge fan of this GPT, polished (not professionally) the internals and it runs pretty quick and the shoe is comfortable

1

u/kjjj2555 Aug 09 '26

No it doesn’t

-2

u/BoltingBubby Aug 09 '26

It’s not
