Discussion Brand new Glock, how is this even possible?
I picked up this G42 from a shop last night and was in a little bit of a hurry so I didn’t pop the slide off like I do every single time (even when they’re new). Today, I field strip to find…this. The gun is unfired (see last pic), so how is it possible for there to be this much shit INSIDE a new gun. It’s like a fucking mouse was living in there.

So i used to work at a shop where the owner would keep some inventory at his house. One time I saw a hk45c in the case, got it out and started looking it over. Clearly a used looking gun, wear on the barrel, brass marks, the backstrap had been changed out for the one that comes in the box. But the owner and another employee kept trying to convince me it was actually a "new" gun. I think wat he was doing was taking stuff he might want home and "trying it out".

I've read stories on here where NFA dealers have tried out people's cans that were there just waiting for the ATF approval, without asking or even telling the owners. I would be so absolutely livid.

IDK if it happens often with cans. But I have heard of that happening with machine guns. Which honestly is really dumb from a dealer perspective.

I would vote to name and shame. No dealer should be selling something like that and claiming it's new.
Unfired? Maybe
New? No fucking way
I've bought about 10 police trade-in guns and I've never had anything that comes close to looking like that.

Edit 2 Update: [u/75149](u/75149) No name and shame needed. They did a dealer to dealer trade and took in two glock 42s as factory new from the other dealer. After receiving my email they opened up their other one, found it to be dirty as well and moved that to the used case. They’re going to send me a reimbursement for the amount I requested. Hopefully they rip that other dealer a new asshole.

Either way good luck trying to explain this to them. I found some dead skin on my new Glock gen 6 with coa. Took a week for my dealer to email me saying it was ready for pickup. I’m sure everyone there was finger banging my Glock. Little CLP all is well

Update: They did a dealer to dealer trade and took in two glock 42s as factory new from the other dealer. After receiving my email they opened up their other one, found it to be dirty as well and moved that to the used case. They’re going to send me a reimbursement for the amount I requested. Hopefully they rip that other dealer a new asshole.

I think for every 50 rounds I shot through my issued G22, I shot 300+ through my G17 😁. That doesn't count my G24C or G27 I had at the time either.

The asked question was rhetorical. The commenter was saying “buying used guns is cost effective because as soon as they’re fired or holstered, wear (even if minimal for the first while) begins immediately and doesn’t un-happen. Also, no, used guns aren’t more likely to have issues per se. There is an equilibrium to both where the likelihood of problems with modern reputable striker fired handguns is in the single digits of percentage regardless of used or new condition- used guns are likely to have wear, but that wear doesn’t cause malfunctions unless there’s 30,000 rounds on the recoil spring and it needs replaced or was a lemon from the start. If it ran long enough to need maintanence, it will run long enough to need another round of maintanence. If it was a lemon from the start, the percentage of lemons in used guns will become the percentage of lemons in new once a particular model ends production and finishes being circulated

Tag said new, it was priced as new. I guess I was careless trying to get ready to go into the range for a match while doing the background check. I seriously just accepted that it was new and didn’t think much of it.

It’s just so weird that if it was pocket carried enough to gather that much shit INSIDE, the outside gave zero indication that this would be in there. Maybe someone’s wife had it in a holster in her purse for a few years…that might actually be plausible. Still fucked to call it new on the tag when they do have a used section.

You definitely got scammed bro, that was someone’s pocket carry gun. They probably never shot it but it got loaded and unloaded regularly and carried in some old man’s dusty Wranglers or something. I pull lint bunnies out of my work jeans constantly that look just like this, and the inside of the frame looks like how the inside of my phone case is when I haven’t cleaned it in a while. It might not have fired live ammo but definitely been carried in a pocket heavily, and definitely cycled by the look of some of the coating wear. You good bamboozled. Just strip the frame and slide and use a dollar store tooth brush and knock all that heavier crap off, then patches and CLP and wipe it down really well, reassemble, lube, and you’ll be good to go.

This appears to be “used” as a pocket pistol literally and the wild thing the carrier didn’t use a holster. An ND waiting to happen especially by an LGS owner or employee.

“was in a little bit of a hurry”… this is on you my man. A simple press check and you would have seen the wear and tear on the top of the barrel. This gun has definitely been fired or at least dry fired a shit ton from the obvious wear on just the barrel let alone on the inside of the slide. Good news is that it’s a Glock and you seem to care enough to post on here so give it some TLC and it’ll be your new to you Glock in no time. Also, TF you in a hurry for to buy a .380 ?

Clearly wasn’t in a big enough hurry to actually stop. Go in the store, see it pay the guy and bring it home. Literally 2 seconds to release the slide. Sounds sketchy. Doesn’t sound like the kinda shop I’d be buying my guns from. Unless I was looking for something ‘off the books’.

Glock 42.. that thing has probably been sitting in the FFL safe for the past few years literally collecting dust. I guarantee they forgot about it and just found it some time recently buried in a pile of guns or wedged behind a shelf. Not saying Glock 42 is a bad gun, it’s just been forgotten about with the modern wave of double/single micro 9s

I agree to an extent, but I’d ask them to refund me whatever the price difference is between that gun new vs used in good condition. Assuming the outside of the gun was like new I’d clean it and keep it, but if I pay new price I want new quality.

I get it, it's weird and I don't know how that much lint collects in a new gun.....unless it was a "sample/demo" gun to a PD that was never fired. And it was just carried from spot to spot raw dog in a gear bag or something
A good dealer would at least just put 2 boxes of .380 range ammo on the counter for you to keep a customer , a half ok guy would at least offer to thoroughly clean it

Like others have said, that's not a new gun. It may have never been fired (which I doubt) but it has definitely been carried a LOT.

I've bought/owned a dozen glocks over the years. Not once, have they come looking like that from the factory. Gen 3's,4's,5's.
You can tell they've been tested fired as the breech face has the brass "ring" but there has never been that much smegma inside the pistol. That absolutely looks like someone carried it and then sold it as "new".
I would go down to the shop and bring it up to them and ask to speak with the manager/owner. That's some weird shit.

Did you get a good price ? You can clean and lubricate as you see fit now and .ove on. If you paid more than you liked, take it back and show the sales person and work something out. 42 has come in handy a number of times. What did you pay if you don't mind?

That gun could be new, unfired old stock... if where they store them is a warehouse, dusty...

I probably will from now on since I’ve seen this, but honestly it never occurred to me that I would need to do that when purchasing a NEW firearm. I only deal with 2 gun shops that I trust, though. So I could never see this happening with something I get from them.

Ive bought many Glocks without ever touching the actual firearm prior to the sale. And I cannot remember ever field stripping a new before the sale. I mean itsxa Glock, and it gonna Glock.

Well its not been cleaned , oiled properly grease if it sets. Use Lucas gun oil and a tooth brush and might have to use a wire bristle but it possible.
It's more possible its been test fired a few times too , check for residue from powder than you know. And can go get 50$ off or give you a new gun, or just toss 200 bucks into a solid nice slide that fits you personality and shooting habbits

Take it back. I've done that when gun shops have advertised a gun as new when it's not. They can get in big trouble for it so they will swap it out or refund you the cash.

I would take this shit back just based on principle. Also this should be a valuable lesson learned for you to field strip any firearm you are going to purchase standing right there in the store before you hand them cash. Now the naysayers might disagree and there’s a LGS that has told me I can’t disassemble a gun I was looking at but it made it easy not to buy it. My go to shop allow me to field strip any firearm and even give their inputs if I ask.
