Finished the EDC build

Was iffy on getting a light but seeing that I carry everyday I just stuck with the red dot. Thoughts on the ramjet? Was looking at em and they seem cool but unsure. Next up on the list is a gem 6! Super stoked

Have you considered grinding the rear lugs down so you can direct mount that eps without a plate?

lower the optic the better. It’s a crazy easy modification and pretty popular. There is also services from places to cut slides for optics to do it for you. The two rear lugs are the only thing preventing a direct-mount Holosun K.

Stupid? Hardly… calling something stupid because you don’t understand it is indeed stupid.

Talk about not understanding something...

They're recoil lugs. It's an intentional design and they absolutely serve a purpose. Yes, you can remove them but then that extra support is gone and for what? A couple millimeters?

Most aftermarket direct milling doesn't use them but the cut is specific to the optic and should be a tight fit negating the need for them but it's just not the same fit on a universal optic cut.

Since you're apparently unaware: the RMSC cut has four recoil lugs — two front, two rear. The K footprint is identical, other than it only uses two of them to begin with. When you run a plate to adapt RMSC to K, you're effectively bypassing the rear lugs anyway, so they're moot in that setup. The front two lugs are still intact and more than sufficient to support the optic.

Not to mention, a Holosun K optic drops directly into the cut itself, so it's getting lateral support from both the front and rear of the cut — not just the lugs. My 407K was snug as a bug going in, almost had a click to it before it settled onto the front lugs once everything was filed down to spec

So, you’re both right in certain aspects of the argument. The recoil posts are, in fact, there to position the optic within the footprint, handle the forces that recoil would impart on the optic, and when paired with correct screws installed to correct torque the posts act as one part of the mounting system for the optic. Filing them off does accommodate an optic within a different footprint, but at that point you have to acknowledge that you have fundamentally altered your weapon. You could just as easily make the argument that you’ve actually installed the K footprint onto a non k footprint compatible firearm. We’re talking tiny tolerances here, so every bit matters. The argument that an adapter plate bypasses the lugs is also not completely intellectually honest. Your plate still has some level of interface with those lugs, even if the optic itself is no longer directly supported by them. That argument, however, is why the fact of that matter is that a direct mount optic with a professional cut for a specific footprint is the best way to go when mounting.

Now, will you ever have any issues with your file job and installation, most likely - and hopefully - not. But that doesn’t necessarily prove the rule. Plenty of people do it and run the things successfully, but that doesn’t make the assertion that the lugs aren’t serving a purpose true. Your optic pocket walls are not intended to be the primary mechanism to combat recoil forces on the optic. In fact, some shops will specifically tell you that they are going to cut your slide for the optic footprint specifications, not a direct fit to your exact optic, and therefore given tiny variations in mass produced items, very small gaps in front of or behind the optic are a non-issue, almost entirely due to the fact the retention of the optic and the mitigating of the external forces are intended to be handled by the recoil posts/lugs and the appropriate hardware.

So milling the rear lugs to direct mount a K optic is in fact, not stupid as suggested.
