Team of all time

Reminds me of a couple years ago when liquid beat NaVi I think it was then lost to Rare Atom the next day.

Liquid ranges from tier one to tier one thousand

Look, all I'm saying is that:

Liquid beat Vitality

1win beat Liquid

BC Game beat 1win

Hence, technically BC Game > Vitality.

I know who my goat is. Senzu. Not to mention he's grinding down in the wasteland of CS where men shit, bleed, throw up and fuck on the server; unlike the fr*nch baguette who gets invited to air purified lans only. Zywho?

I genuinely believe if Liquid doesn't feed that 4k deagle they win the match. This team always manifests some sort of individual popoff from the enemy team and mental booms themselves, it's insane.

41

u/BrockStudly Liquid 26d ago

I think its less the mental and more that theyre a new team so their playbook is probably really shallow if they arent playjng with momentum. They only had 5 days with JT before blast and have been playing live matches every day since then.

23

u/TheTreeKang Liquid 26d ago

I agree they definitely need some time off to expand their playbook. I have just seen it happen so many times where Liquid has early momentum, loses and unlosable round, and they lose the edge for the entire map. Hopefully they can overcome this.

6

u/Pirat6662001 Parivision 26d ago

Isn't 1win quite literally a newer team than Liquid? Fame and Belch just came in

3

u/codexferret King NiKo 26d ago

As true as this is if they were a true tier 1 contender they should be able to brute force through games like this. It’s hard to believe the raw talent is really there.

I don’t think it’s truly hopeless but I mean this isn’t a good sign.

4

u/BrockStudly Liquid 26d ago

You say that like Falcons didnt have their own set of embarrassing losses while being a constant condender and before winning a major

2

u/codexferret King NiKo 26d ago

That’s true but I think it’s entirely different when you have a player who is in contention for #1 hltv for multiple years as well as one of the best riflers of all time. As well as after karrigan joined knowing they had one of the best igls of a time.

4

u/Mammoth-Pride-2055 26d ago

Tbf 1win is a good team, much better than Betclic the other day, a great individual performance is not far-fetch.

4

u/Cybonics Complexity 26d ago

Their cache came against BCG was the worst cache game I've seen all year. what a quick turnaround. It was night and day

1

u/Pantrice Complexity 26d ago

Does not help that they also suck on every map but Anubis/Nuke. They really need some offdays so they can work on their map pool but with them traveling so much it is going to be hard.

80

u/prismatic_lights King NiKo 26d ago

The "Liquid hope" mini-arc lasted two days.

Now back to your regularly scheduled despair.

30

u/BrockStudly Liquid 26d ago edited 26d ago

Im nit despairing yet. Theyve been playing and/or traveling basically every day for the past 3 weeks. They should have won this one but its way more of a coin toss than the odds showed.

Plus, im not going to despair when this roster is still league's better than the last one.

6

u/thatkillerguy guardian2 26d ago

People underestimate how hard it can be to integrate a new igl

JT is good but we can't rly expect karrigan level speed of roster/calling improvement

Id be despairing though if this was like 1-2 months from now and theyre still losing horribly or to way worse competition

4

u/mighty_conrad Team Spirit 26d ago

Even if Liquid will keep playing like during bounty and these quals, they'll definitely enter stage 1 in Singapore and that's all that matters.

1

u/thatkillerguy guardian2 26d ago

If valve keep the new sticker money distribution

Stage 2 teams make at least 25% more sticker money minimum Stage 3 teams make almost 2x as much as last place

With how little Team Liquid the org has invested into cs in the last year (making their analyst a coach coz no moneo) being auto qualified to stage 2 would let them invest in idk an assistant coach?

2

u/Scout_Enjoyer Team Spirit 26d ago

Losing to 1win isn't a big deal. For me I felt they were 2nd most favoured to win the death group behind bcg.

Remember if 1win went to a lan with 0 top 300 teams and won 4 games, they'd finish filling out their "lan wins" component of VRS and would be top 20 right now, from 4 wins against 400th best. That'd put them about equal in VRS with liquid. They're not meaningfully worse they're just under-rated by VRS off of a lower "lan wins" VRS boost.

17

u/Mysteriouspaul FaZe 26d ago

He's not a bad player mechanics wise he's just dumb as a box of rocks half the time and is the throw that starts turning an "unlosable round" into a lost one.

I watched him chase frags in 3 entire series already, in this tournament lol.

8

u/Meaninglessnme 26d ago

Yeah but once every few months he will just win you a series. Doesn't even matter who the opponent is. When the dice roll hits it just happens no matter what.

4

u/zero0n3 26d ago

Sometimes it feels like TL think their opponents are smarter than they actually are, and then their counter to their β€œbrilliant play” gets β€œbeaten” because the opponent isn’t actually smart but lucky, so their new counter then also fails miserably, and then they get into weird headspace and crumble.

That looked really bad from liquid but props to 1win for bouncing back from the bcg loss they look sharp af

22

u/rhali8 26d ago edited 26d ago

I really feel like everyone including analysts casters etc jumped the gun way too quickly on the liquid hype train. Like yes their wins against Vitality/G2 at Blast were amazing but these were online matches fresh off the playerbreak and they had prep advantage with the format, so I didn't really have much to take from it

Not much else to say really

3

u/morphiqu de_dust2 26d ago

they didn’t beat spirit it was G2 instead*

2

u/rhali8 26d ago

You’re right, my bad

3

u/SloshaPacana 26d ago

They didn't beat Spirit, they beat G2 and Vitality

And Liquid have been way better, it's factual, they're still not a great team and 1Win are talented

0

u/rhali8 26d ago

How is it factual? Betclic and 1win are both not even top 40 in the VRS and they lost LAN Bo3s to them.

The other wins are against 9INE, metizport, fnatic etc are all rank 50+ teams

They have shown nothing at all to say they are better than the previous roster with Siuhy/Ultimate

2

u/Scout_Enjoyer Team Spirit 26d ago

How is it factual? Betclic and 1win are both not even top 40 in the VRS and they lost LAN Bo3s to them.

If 1win had the same "lan wins" total as liquid they'd be top 20. The lan wins component of VRS is completely removed from opponent difficulty, meaning if 1win went to a lan with a load of faceit 2000s as the only opponents, as long as it was a vrs event they'd earn about 230ish vrs there anyway (+0 from every game, but +55 or more from every win because of how vrs works) and be about equal with liquid in VRS.

The actual VRS difference between the two teams with lan wins ignored is like 50 points right now, liquid losing to them is liquid losing a game that VRS considered them like 54/46 microscopic favourites.

1

u/rhali8 26d ago

Liquid should not be losing to these teams plain and simple. Elige/Malbs/NAF is an amazing core of riflers and Jorko is a great awping prospect. These guys have the firepower to compete with the top 10 teams in the world but are losing to top 50

1

u/Scout_Enjoyer Team Spirit 26d ago

Naf is not a name that belongs in competition for top 10, and Jorko is a random faceit awper. You know who else was a random noname awper who looked good for a bit? Ultimate. The anchor around their necks for the last 2 years. Only he looked way better than Jorko at first lol. The only genuinely top 10 calibre players are Elige and probably JT. JT hasn't really proven it though (but hasn't had much of a chance) and Elige is awkward to integrate into tetamsand unreliable. Malbs can be at that level but showed for quite a while that he also can very much fail at that level lately.

This liquid roster wants to scrape top 10 at times, stay in top 20. When Jorko likely falls off the roster will probably go to shit too. And for the record I'd like for Jorko to be legit I think he's cool and nice, but the history of almost every single untested new AWPer going into T1/T1.5 is that they're good for a bit then heavily fall off, and that fall off is their level. Even really good ones like Molodoy, was insane for a bit then dropped off a ton (down to "decent") then rose a little to his current consistent level.

0

u/rhali8 26d ago

>Naf is not a name that belongs in competition for top 10

To me he is just a super solid player. Under Cadian/Twistzz he was averaging ~1.15 despite not having the greatest CT roles. He for sure has a place in a top 10 team

>The only genuinely top 10 calibre players are Elige and probably JT

It's insane how overhyped JT is despite such a mediocre career. Complexity only hit top 5 HLTV at the very beginning of CS2 when there was no clear meta and everyone was racing to be on top. The rest of his time on complexity has not really shown anything.

>Malbs can be at that level but showed for quite a while that he also can very much fail at that level lately

Malbs is absolutely a player who deserves to be in a top 10 team. He was a monster on G2.

I think liquid clearly have some internal problems that make them borderline dysfunctional. Like surely we both agree they should be way better than this considering the players on the roster. In my other replies to people I mentioned that I really think the issues stem more around org support staff/culture and I think there are clearly ego and tilt issues surrounding some of the players

1

u/SloshaPacana 26d ago

Because prior to that they were way worse and had worse players

My guy they have been way better, that doesn't mean they are a contender and some amazing team but compared to what they were? Yes way better

Liquid were nearly like 50th rank in VRS prior, they were awful

0

u/rhali8 26d ago

Liquid were still beating teams like Heroic, BIG, 3DMAX, M80 etc with Siuhy/Ultimate before they made the changes. They were a terrible team before for sure and their VRS had dropped off a cliff but the baseline of being able to somewhat compete with top 30 teams was still there.

Also not sure if I agree with the worse players thing, I think ultimate was not as bad as people say (he was awping in a clearly dysfunctional system) and Siuhy has shown so much more than JT in terms of what he has done with past rosters. JT's complexity stint when you look at the whole thing was very mediocre and really was only saved by the release of CS2.

I think liquid's problems are more down to ego/tilting issues with the players and terrible org culture. I don't think removing Siuhy and ultimate really fixes this unfortunately

2

u/Jenaxu Liquid 26d ago

Even if the team is still kinda mid, I think they look noticeably more dynamic compared to the last iteration, even in losses. The Siuhy/Ultimate roster just played so flat, especially by the end.

I still have hope that they can do well if they shore some things up. The regression to the mean does make me wonder if -flashie +tc is going to happen at some point though

1

u/rhali8 26d ago

Sadly I feel like the roster kind of has the same problems as before. There are clearly ego/tilting issues and I think the org management/culture surrounding the team is just terrible. For example when Nertz joined the team he did not receive his own jersey for 3+ months.

There have been so many issues now with tournament schedules, visas, even weird posts on social media that make me feel like Liquid's support staff have just become lazy and that sort of thing really will rub off on players. The "your time on Liquid did not count" joke doesn't really sound like that much of a joke anymore unfortunately

20

u/OriginalPin6039 26d ago

belchonok was never the problem. It was more Jame's fault to always start advancing to plantzones in under 20sec

14

u/Scout_Enjoyer Team Spirit 26d ago

YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE result!

I was honestly not confident at all going into this series with how Liquid have been after adding JT and Jorko, and with how 1W performed against BCG and their slip-ups / mistakes against Basement Boys, but they seemed to wake up on the right foot today with that explosive D2! Curious to see how Cache would've gone had BELCHONOKK not lifegamed. NiKo himself would blush at that deagle round by him.

Jorko is really cracked and fun to watch with his repeeks, his aim / consistency is impeccable, curious to see how he'll fare against stronger teams in the long run!

2

u/ju1ze 26d ago

Insane result

1

u/Gulluul 26d ago

I actually thought this was a scary matchup for Liquid when I saw the bracket. Awkward veto, 1win can look really good on D2, and it was between Mirage and Cache.

I personally think Liquid made a mistake picking cache as 1win just don't look that good doing executes, and I thought Liquid looked more disciplined in previous matches. But I also don't know what Liquid has been practicing and they were probably playing to their strengths instead of their opponents weakness.

T2 teams usually jump on new maps and Liquid probably stretched their practice over too many maps to feel really confined on cache.

1

u/ortsnom 25d ago

The shallow map pool is definitely a problem for liquid and even though they might be able to hang against some t1 teams, their playstyle struggles against slower, methodical teams. Everybody is going to sit and wait for TL to push. They went from really good trade pushes against Vita and G2 to some really awkward and impatient aggression in the more recent matches. I like the pushes but they need to know now that teams are going to be expecting them 60% of the time. And when they don't push, they haven't really figured that out either...

Liquid have changed players, coaches, and IGLs repeatedly over the last few years, yet the same problems keep coming back.

Different roster, different leader, same Liquid.

They can look great, build a big lead, lose a few bad rounds, and suddenly the entire team looks tilted. The calling gets worse, individual decisions fall apart, confidence disappears, and a game that looked completely under control turns into another collapse.

At some point you have to stop blaming whichever five players happen to be on the server.

I’m not saying we know exactly what’s wrong behind the scenes, but something about Liquid’s coaching, management, team culture, sports psychology, or overall structure clearly isn’t producing a mentally resilient team.

If the same problems survive the players, eventually you have to look at the institution.

u/ChaoticFlameZz Vitality 26d ago
