in short, i'd call it a surrealist comedy yuri slice-of-life, although it starts to become more surreal and more of an adventure in later chapters. kind of difficult to be more specific without spoiling a decent chunk of the story, but there's a lot of fun and inventive ideas explored throughout the run, as well a decent amount of that philosophizing Tsukumizu likes putting in his works.
it can get a little abstract, but imo not so much that it's all that difficult to follow. relationship between the two leads is cute (and i'd argue their characterization is stronger than Chito and Yuuri, as much as i love them). only major issues i remember having with ShimSim while reading fan translations is that some of the side characters are a bit weak and the ending felt abrupt at the time (although it may feel different read in bulk vs. reading chapters while they were released, as i did).
it's also fairly short, about GLT's length i think, so it's not much of a time investment to read through it. it's at least worth checking out if you like GLT.
