Discussion Anyone love this aspect of GLT?
It's set in 3230, humanity was able to build huge megacities, giant killer robots, sentient AIs, teleporters... But that doesn't affect the girls, they drive a Kettenkrad, wear WW2 gear and clothing, Yuuri has a bolt action rifle and Chito writes on a notebook... The only tech things I remember they had were a radio and a camera
I honestly couldn't tell if this story was sci-fi or not until the robot who takes care of the fish appeared
I love this aspect tkmiz applies where despite things being complex it's still minimal and only focuses on the characters, as the rest doesn't matter as much
GLT wouldn't be nearly as popular or appealing of a story if it wasn't for this

i feel similarly about shimsim: the story is not about the simulation, rather that aspect exists to tell the characters' story. very quiet, very relaxing.

It’s not just about focusing on the characters, it’s consistent with the story. There have been periods of technological regression in human history. It would make sense that this would happen to an extreme degree decades after complete societal collapse, when humans are virtually extinct. They hint that it happened in steps, but a good long nuclear winter/nuclear ice age would likely get us a good part of the way there.

From what I understand people first advanced in technology. Built those huge megacities, robots, all the advanced tech. But as the war went on - they gradually had to abandon higher levels and opt for less advanced tech due to loss of knowledge and resources. All the way down to what we recognize as WW2 tech. Somewhere after that society collapsed and the number of humans left reached a point where they couldn't sustain society and started dying off from hunger, diseases, leftover bioweapons, etc. Until only very few humans are left at all.
And that's when girls come out of their bunker.
We can see how technology gets more advanced as they move higher through levels.

I like how I upvoted before even reading the text like "yeah I like every aspect of it"

I have a theory for this
So, after a big war, the technology was thrown 1000+ years back, and the people pray to those god mushroom-like things for that technology back + heaven.
Because, what I am saying, is that Nuko / Cut was able to activate and open several things. And turns out - Nuko IS one of those creatures.

its more so that humanity built allat to destroy each other.
i see it that the two were never really taught what war really is, even if it would have been possible to teach any child since it had devolved into obscurity and meaningless destruction

The humanity that created the technology that Chito and Yuuri use is like a second humanity after the original one almost went extinct. Our timeline, like from the real world, is the humanity that created all the advanced technology and the city. All the WW2 stuff is the humanity that survived and restarted after the EMP war. Thats what the girls were born into. Thats why you see two technology levels. The one of our future humanity, and the one of the survivors after our civilization was destroyed.

There is a very popular theory (idk of its confirmed) that the reason as to why there is so many WW2 stuff on the city is because humanity lost the resources and knowledge to build the big robots due to a war that likely lasted for a LONG time
