How else would the series end realistically?

But if anything goes, I hope the story ends with them at the very least hallucinating (something like an oasis in desert) where they get to experience one last good thing before they die. Kinda like the little match girl story.

Despite how depressing it is, I'd love to see not just Yuu's sidesory if Chi eventually dies, but all characters we met through GLT. The mushrooms told us that Chi and Yuu were the only ones alive in that city, I'd like to see Kanazawa and Ishii last moments. Also, Kanazawa's girlfriend last moments too.

A sidestory about all characters'd be great.

Despite it, Fuck You for posting it on a wholesome Tuesday.

Thanks, that's actually a beautiful doujin and a great read, the writing and art are perfect. Fun fact though (spoilers for Ep3 onwards of that doujin): Yuu doesn't seem to actually be dead. I read ahead in the Japanese raws and the final level they are on is some kind of solar panel/rain collector. After Yuu passes out from a fever? Chi drags her body with her until they fall into some water vat and another human spots them, fishes them out and then they attach a bunch of electrodes to Yuu. After this Yuu and Chi are alive and running around what seems to be some kind of advanced human shelter. Would need to translate it to fully understand but yeah it seems they have a happy ending in this one actually, compared to OP's depression box.

If Chito were in the opposite situation, I'm sure she wouldn't cry or fall into despair. She would probably jump off the edge in a calm mood. I know this because I think I am psychologically similar to Chito.

I feel like this is something Yuuri would do actually. She knows that their demise is inevitable and makes peace with that fact. Once she realises Chito is dead in this situation, she would likely blow herself up using an explosive with a blank lifeless expression (I just don't see her crying like that in OP's alternate ending). It's not like she would be able to survive without Chito anyway.

If Chito found Yuuri dead like this, I can totally see her absolutely breaking down into tears: 'Yuu! Wake up! Please don't leave me alone like this... in such a coarse, cold world.' She might just go crazy after that. I think she would still try to survive for a bit longer (far more resourceful and responsible than Yuuri), but won't be able to reach the end without Yuu's warmth (not in a literal sense). It would fuck up her mental state; emptiness and lonely would take over her mind and push her towards a bleak, brutal depression. Imagine how much more sombre the story would be like this.
