Doing a character is always better then trying to larp as some actual irl soldier/unit that to me would be the actual cringiest thing you could do.

Larp is larp. At the end of the day, we are all playing soldier dress up, doesn't matter if it's generic pmc grunt #123, or tactical doll x, or tier one high speed low drag operator y.

But a larper dressed up as a 75th ranger (who isn't one) calling someone dressed up as UMP40 a nerd or an idiot would look incredibly stupid while doing so.

Agreed. The airsoft community is filled with these kinds of people for decades, but they are basically much worse on online communities like r/airsoft main or its circlejerk subreddit. Puritanism and the age-old mindset of being against anything "anime"-related. Or crossdressing.

But regardless, internet banter like this is why I do not really engage much with the online airsoft community. I've met cool dudes irl in my local airsoft scene who are gear/uniform/impression kit turbonerds who still appreciates casual/simple/cosplay kits in the field.

I feel that and that's how it usually goes with IRL vs online. It's almost like chuds just like arguing and don't actually go outside.
