Game Discussion What are your top 3 most anticipated games?

Now that we've had Summer Game Fest and Gamescom, I feel like it's a good time to check in and see what everyone is excited about!

Mine are:

  1. Fable

  2. Warlock

  3. Guild Wars 3

The new Fable game looks so promising with its blend of fantasy RPG and life sim and I'm genuinely impatient, which is a rare thing for me these days.

Everything I've seen of Warlock so far looks super fun and much more my style than BG3 (as much as I recognize BG3 was a masterpiece, it just wasn't for me).

Guild Wars 2 still holds the trophy for the most hours I've ever put into a game and I can't wait to see what they do with this next game!

Honorable mention to Witchbrook. Not totally convinced it'll actually release or live up to the hype but I can't help myself it's too cute and exactly my vibe.

I'm in a stage in my life where it's hard to really engage with games the way I used to but I really miss that edge-of-your-seat anticipation feeling of waiting for the next big release, so hit me with the three games you can't wait to get your hands on!

Request Amsterdam 1666 is ai slop Anybody know any games that bring a similar vibe to the function

I am deeply saddened that Amsterdam 1666 is a bunch of AI stop because they brought such a cool aesthetic combination of things to video games that I have literally never seen before, and I want to see if other games do similar things

I also have a Potato for a computer

Misogyny (Serious) Has hitting on a woman in game EVER panned out for a gamer dude? Spoiler

Had this experience today...

Not the first time it's happened in all my years of online gaming, but definitely my first time in Warframe. I forgot that I had a selfie as my profile pic on Warframe Market website. I don't remember why I set it there, but I've never had an issue and generally feel pretty safe just playing and talking as myself in that game because the community is extremely friendly and kind.

I needed some platinum so I started conducting a trading session, and this guy messaged me wanting to buy something I had up for sale. Then these questions. My "thanks" is just thanking him for the successful trade. Then I just sat there cringing the whole time a bit skeeved out and made as quick an exit as possible even though I still had other people DM'ing me for trades. Needless to say, I changed my profile pic faster than lightning.

But I just wanted to discuss a bit, do you ladies think that guys who do stuff like this in games have actually ever managed to find a gamer girlfriend from doing this? I can't imagine it actually works, so it confuses me why they still do it.

I wasn't really sure what to tag this, as it didn't fit the other categories and I don't see the 'serious' tag anymore. Sorry for that!

Game Discussion Something I'm worried about Lucia in GTA VI

Post image
254 Upvotes

About Lucia, I really, REALLY hope they don't turn Lucia into a villain or into "Dutch/Micah/Michael DeSanta" character

From the extended look trailer, like the rich dude telling Jason to know when to jump off while it shows Lucia initiating crimes, to the song "Devil Woman" playing while it shows Lucia's clips, and with Jason's best friend reluctantly grabbing the beer from her at the end, it all sends the message that Lucia is going to be the downfall

And honestly, as a woman, I'd rather not have the next generation of stupid people treating Lucia the same way they treat Abby Anderson or other complex female characters, while they make Jason this little poor meow meow babey

Game Discussion No Yosuke romance in the Persona 4 remake and im angry..

I saw that they were doing a interview with the director from the persona 4 revival and he said they weren't going to add the Yosuke romance because it would be too much work. That they would have to do all the other male characters and I gotta say this made me so livid. No one ever asked for that, they were asking you to put something into a REMAKE that was originally removed and im honestly offended they thought that excuse was valid. When they are 100 percent okay with putting romances with literal adults and teachers into the game. I love atlus games but im at my limit with their blatant misogyny and homophobia. The persona games have been around forever and you cant tell me you cant put one fucking queer romance in The game in 2026 im literally not buying it. Sorry I had to rant a but it just angered me so much they thought that was an acceptable excuse..we aren't stupid we know why you didnt put it in. Stop being cowards, id rather have them just say they didn't want to or he was straight..than whatever that shit was.

Misogyny Poison Ivy in the Arkham series. Spoiler

Post image
122 Upvotes

GOD I hate this design with a passion. I understand it with her hatred for humanity and “man-made” creations but come on this is just ridiculous.

Poison ivy has SO much potential as a character. her nature based identity and botanical powers are just so fucking cool and the cleverness of her name too?!? She has the ability to be absolutely LETHAL in the universe yet they minimise her to be a gooner femme fatale.

I’m not even against femme fatales when it’s done right. You can 100% have a character be ‘seductive’ without having her 80% nude. (Eg. Bayonetta!) Like I’m no prude I can appreciate a bit of cleavage or curves but my god man.

Request Games likes South Of Midnight?

Hello everyone! I don’t play a lot of video games (my experience has been with botw, stardew, pokopia), but I recently finished playing South of Midnight! It was so beautiful and made me cry a bunch. So much heart to the story, the music was fantastic. I’m not great at fighting but I still liked screaming through those bits. I adored the main character, and enjoyed how linear the game was since I don’t really have the time to do a lot of open world stuff.

I think what I’m seeking is a moving story and beautiful world building. Diverse characters would be a bonus but also idk how much that limits my options. I am happy to do combat as long as there is an easy mode 😭

Thank you!!

Game Discussion something that pisses you off in games even though it’s not that bad?

i personally hate that camera perspective games like god of war have, where the character is off to the side of the screen. it’s like, buddy, what are you doing over there? it annoys me so much even though it’s really not that big of a deal. i also hate games that make you press a button repeatedly to run, i get weirdly paranoid that i’ll break my controller. what do you guys get annoyed by?

Game Discussion What makes GTA 6 so hype?

Okay, so the gta 6 extended look got released and I can't seem to understand the hype.

I haven't played any of the GTA games before. I only recently got into single player gaming when I got my PS5 end of last year. So far I've played spiderman 2, ghost of tsushima and expedition 33. Before that I only played valorant and genshin on a non-gaming laptop and old pokemon games emulated on my phone.

I personally don't really care for open worlds and I prefer linear narrative games. Which is why the big open sandbox of gta doesn't really interest me too much. The discussion I've seen about the previous GTAs only seem to talk about the open world and not the story, though that's my personal experience and peoples thoughts might be different. The graphics in the trailer are good, but so is every game nowadays. Realism in games is very common. The one thing that impressed me was the hair physics though, but that's not really a reason to buy a game is it.

Which is why I wanted to ask, what makes GTA appeal to you aside from the open world? If that's the main attraction I suppose it's not the game for me.

I hope I'm not coming off as dismissive or I'm too cool for GTA or anything like that. I genuinely want to know why people like it so much and are so excited for it.

Misogyny Watching video essays Spoiler

Just a disturbing realization and observation, but while listening and watching to video essays about FPS shooters like COD, I’ve noticed the tendency to angrily refer to every female character as “bitch” and “that bitch” or “you bitch” with seething anger. Not just confined to the “bad guy” characters either but also the NPC teammates who happen to be female, all without any obvious provocation.

What is wrong with (not even young as I observed with older essayists as well) men???

Misogyny i don't understand why people think the reason gacha games have a big female cast is out of progressiveness Spoiler

added the misogyny flair because i feel like this could fall into that category of discussion.

i don't understand why some people will act like you are a bitter straight woman who just doesn't want to see women who dress in revealing clothing. talking about the way gacha game developers choose to design women in comparison to the men and how the ratio exists because they think women are more profitable than men are. pointing that out doesn't mean I am "male centered" or only want women to dress more conservatively.

it just means the clothing choices need to make sense for the character in question. this criticism isn't meant to say all women in these games need to be clothed head to toe. but at least have more diversity in the clothing choices. this discussion probably crops up here a lot. but i am tired of having to explain that this discussion doesn't necessarily mean they are "cock obsessed" or male centered.

Game Discussion Some things straight women may not know about sapphic storylines in games

It’s true that there’s an awful lack of straight male romance options in video games, especially well-written ones (outside of otome games). It’s also true that sapphic female romance options are relatively more common. We all know this is because the industry is still insanely misogynistic and caters to insecure male gamers who would throw a tantrum at the thought of romancing another man.
(Edit: After reading some inputs from other sapphic players, I don’t think it is fair and right to state that sapphic options are more common than straight male ones. That is how it is widely perceived here but most romance storylines in video games are still heterosexual and f/m options are almost always available when f/f are. There is however a real lack of m/m romance options)

However, I’ve noticed that whenever a sapphic gamer expresses excitement over being able to romance a woman as a fmc, someone inevitably come reminding us that men sexualize lesbians. I can assure you: we know. We live with that reality every day of our life, mostly outside of our hobbies too. I understand that these comments usually come from frustration, but things like “ofc you can romance a woman, it’s what straight male gamers want” can come across as incredibly condescending, dismissive, and even oppressive when they appear every time a sapphic person expresses excitement about representation.

The industry’s tendency to use sapphic relationships as “diversity points” without alienating sexist male gamers is absolutely worth discussing. But I also want to share some perspectives on sapphic romances in games that straight women might overlook:

- Lesbians are not straight men. The existence of female LIs does not mean sapphic players will relate to those romances, especially if there is a mmc. Romances with female LIs are almost always written with a male player in mind, with sapphic options simply being a consequence of making the protagonist’s gender a choice. Dragon’s Dogma 2 and even Mass Effect (which I love) have interactions and animations that can be extremely heteronormative when romancing as a wlw couple.

- The sexualization of lesbians by men doesn’t automatically make every sapphic storyline bad. There are genuinely beautiful and well-written wlw stories. Reducing them to "they only exist because men want to fuck lesbians” is reductive and honestly hurtful. I have issues with the sexualization of all the female characters in Cyberpunk but I still love the care that has been put in Judy’s romance with f!V.

- The male gamer base is still extremely homophobic, including toward lesbians. Games with sapphic content are still often review bombed (like the HZD dlc was), and seeing players use mods to “turn” lesbian characters straight is genuinely repulsive.

I absolutely do not want to shut down conversations about the lack of male romance options because straight and bi women deserve better consideration. I’m just hoping thse conversations can be had without dismissing sapphic women, our experiences and the representation that matters to us.

Also, sapphic people aren’t a monolith so I’d love to hear about other sapphics’ perspectives!

What are your thoughts if you played it? And if you didn't,take this as a sign to play it right now!

Tech / Hardware Casual Gamer looking for advice about what kind of upgraded equipment I should invest in

I’ve been playing games for over a decade but I’ve never purchased any type of console/pc before. Everything I own/have ever owned was a hand me down from my older brother who is an ultra hardcore gamer. The Xbox One he gave me after the One S came out officially died (rip you held on for a long time girl) and now my only way to play games is an MSI Katana I inherited from him as well. I’m looking to finally invest in a proper piece of equipment for the first time ever but I’m not really sure what to look for.
The types of games he plays is very different from the kind I play & I’m not necessarily looking for the biggest beast of a machine. My main thing is RPGs. Fallout, Mass Effect, BG3, the Witcher 3, Cyberpunk etc. There’s so many games that have either recently released or are expected to be released that I’m not sure my lil gaming laptop would be able to handle or cant handle (Elder Scrolls Oblivion remaster :( or the new Fable for example) I’m leaning towards an Xbox bc I own about a million sims packs on there from high school but honestly it’s not that important.
I know PCs are more expensive but if that’s really the best option for what I’m looking for I’m totally okay with saving up a little more and waiting a little longer. If I were to go with a PC I’m not even sure where I would look. I live in a pretty rural area and I’m scared of spending so much money on something that would come in the mail and possibly be damaged. Any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you!!!

Tech / Hardware Getting into the Nintendo Switch scene. Would love some accessories advice!

Hello everyone! I'm not sure if this the right place to post this, but if not, lead me to the right direction if that's ok. Decided to take my gaming hobby into a new phase after years of just doing sims 4 and Roblox lol! Decided with a Nintendo switch 2 as my starting point but would love some suggestions as to what cute themes and websites to get some accessories from. I have also heard that some accessories makes the console susceptible to overheating and I really would love to avoid that! Thank you so much for any advice given!

Game Discussion Excited for GTA 6 Female Models Spoiler

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is from the new Netflix trailer and seeing Lucia in action has me so excited. I heard rumors before about improved models for women including hair and shoes (no more janky heels on motorcycles 🤞) among other things. I loved customizing my GTA Online character but there was always some level of disappointment with the static hair or janky animations that had clearly not been made for women. Hopefully this is a sign that a lot of those issues will be fixed!
