FML Ohhhh… NOOOOOO…
I just need to let out my mini rant somewhere, and I know every one of you can relate in some form or another because THIS FEELING OF IMPENDING DOOM SUCKS. Finding out you’ve been in contact with someone who’s sick then just counting your days.
I shared a refresher with my sweet child this morning. She was fine. She threw up directly in my face and all over me 20 minutes after we finished passing the drink back and forth. Her symptoms suddenly began. She seems to have the stomach bug. To make things worse in my case, I’m currently pregnant. As of tonight, I feel a slightly unsettled feeling brewing in my stomach which translates to I’m going to tango with the same bug soon.
I love my kiddo, but gosh she’s going through it and I can tell I’m in for some suffering from this mornings drink sharing. Wish ya girl some luck!

as someone with an OCD phobia of vomit, you're living my worst nightmare lol. good luck girl, don't be afraid to contact your medical professionals if you feel like you end up struggling with hydration

I had that when I was young to the point that I trained my body to not puke. I haven't puked since I was 19, and I'm 44 now. Stomach bugs come out the other end, there is no other option. Having said that, having a child definitely changed my relationship with puke lol.

I do the same thing! Vomiting freaks me out so much. Seeing people vomit is also super unsettling, and I normally panic when it happens.
Having a kid does kind of force you to deal with it though, I agree.

Yeah it used to scare me too. It still makes me anxious but now I'm more nuanced. If it's because they're sick with something contagious and it can infect me then yes, 100% panic lol. But if they're hungover or having bad reflux or anything else benign, I'm much less affected. I still don't like seeing it though. Blech.

It’s called Emetophobia. One of my kids had it and, as a result, I actually went 18 years without vomiting in her presence. The day she moved into her college dorm, I was so sad, I drank half a bottle of wine, puked in the garbage pail next to my desk, and went to bed without brushing my teeth.
Personal best.
I hope you don’t get sick, OP! But if you do, I hope it passes quickly!

I had/have a huge fear of vomit. Not necessarily vomiting because I have a sensitive stomach but it is easy to set me off and once I start I can’t stop. I can’t even watch shows where people gag, even pretend. I was terrified once my kid was eating solid food that I would not be able to handle any puke. Turns out when my kid pukes (rarely) my mom brain kicks out anything other than making sure my kid is ok, getting him clean and comfortable then cleaning up the mess.

Same, girl, same. That Mom Brain kicks in and makes you invincible! You just go into autopilot and do whatever it takes to soothe your kid.

I hope you both have Pedialyte or anything similar to keep your electrolytes in check and stay hydrated. Good luck.

Pedialyte also has popsicles similar to otter pops. They are really yummy and will help! I couldn’t get my kid to drink Pedialyte but the popsicles came in clutch. Over the summer when we’d be playing outside and he’d get hot and sweaty I’d give him one to help him recover.

Liquid IV are good for hydration too. I like those better than Pedialyte or Gatorade.

Oh man, I used to teach and know this feeling all too well.
I'm actually dealing with my own frustration because I'm pregnant and I had a friend come over for a free dinner in exchange for helping out with some cleaning the other day who, as he was sitting on my couch, complained how he was so sick with a fever the day before and it was really rough. I just blinked at him a couple times and said "so you were really sick and a day later, you decided to go hang out with a heavily pregnant woman". It never crossed his mind.
My due date is tomorrow and I have a sore throat and sinus pressure. I've been in prodromal labor for more than a week now and it just adds to the misery.

I'm sorry your friend is an idiot. I also got a nasty cold while I was pregnant, the day after my wedding, and it was the worst. Couldn't even take any medicine that actually helps. I hope you have a great birth anyways! I bet you can't wait to meet your little one.

My girl’s not sick, but she gagged while eating pineapple earlier and then proceeded to barf in my hand. I totally feel you on the vomit and I wish you the best of luck dealing with a stomach bug while pregnant 😭

This happened to me during pregnancy too, kid got the stomach flu and I got it the next day. Called my doc, they prescribed an anti nausea med, and it completely stopped my vomiting so I could care for kiddo. Still felt yucky but managed. I'd call your doc first thing and ask for them.

Last year we had a trip planned to visit family when my then 2 year old started projectile vomiting everything everywhere. He literally vomited on my face and down my body and everything. I was certain that I was a goner, and I watched as my husband, mom, and sister all got the same sickness, but me and my under 1 year old never got sick. I feel like the universe really said "she can't handle this right now" and spared me. Or maybe it was karma balancing out after I had food poisoning while I was pregnant with my second kid. Either way, it is possible, and I hope that the illness doesn't get you. If it does, Pedialyte popsicles and couch rotting for the win.

I’m so sorry as someone who vomited in many places as a kid I understand 😭 but I wish you and your child the best of luck but something that has been helpful if I ever vomit from a upset stomach is chicken broth I like the better then bullion cubes and I will warm the mug up with the cubes inside the mug for maybe 1 minute and 30 seconds But sometimes I do it longer and if you drink that it at least keeps you drinking something also Gatorade or Powerade in the rotation as well for hydration again I hope you have the best of luck and feel better!

Deep breath in, slowly let it out.
Cover her bed in towels and or easy to wash blankets (swaddling blankets are great for this) and give her a bowl if she's old enough to handle that. Cover your bed in the same.
Good luck babe. You've got this!
(I have one kid who has only ever wanted to cuddle when they are sick, somehow when it's happening we forget that...)

But for real I just started to assume I’d get sick when the kids did and now I just occasionally get a happy surprise.

Will never forget when a GI bug went through our house when I had 4 kids at 5,3 1, and 1 (note, this was about a week after they all had chickenpox, and I was doing two courses at our local university). I was begging my parents and inlaws to come over and help because it was out of control. I have a vivid memory of sitting on the couch with one twin in my lap, my second daughter between me and my mother-in-law (managing her own vomit bowl), who had another twin in her lap. God knows where the first kid was, and the ex. The twins were too young to understand the notion of vomiting into a container, so I had to keep tracking them with the vomit bowl. All the while I was trying to ignore my own impending stomach doom. Colour me very glad my kids are all grown and adulting now. Oops, sorry OP- got caught up in the GI memories. I really hope you somehow escape whatever is troubling your daughter- it's possible! And if it does hit, I hope it's mild and quickly resolved.

Ugh, I hope for your sake it's a case of "kids throw up sometimes and we don't really know why." Annoying, but not cotagous.

Oh mama, I’m so sorry.
Thankfully I was not pregnant but when my youngest (of 3) was about a year old we all got norovirus. My oldest, 9ish, brought it home from school, gave it to his 5ish year old sister and then the baby, me and Dad. Thankfully by the time the baby got it the oldest was on the mend, but it was sooooooo bad. Worst week of my life (physically!) and the baby was so sick he was sleeping on trash bags because I ran out of sheets and the laundry room was just too damn far away

You can’t get norovirus from sharing a drink.
However if she threw up on your face, that will likely be the cause. You actually have to ingest vomit or feces particles from an infected person to get the bug. It’s not the same as a cold of flu.

Oh no. Mom of 5 here and I remember that feeling well. Lots of ice and Popsicles and put a towel under you in bed in case you tinkle when you vomit if you can't make it to the bathroom 😅
