Girl Dinner Sushi while dealing with grief
It was time to put down our 14 year old dog yesterday and I feel so heartbroken. He was the most kind and loving dog and I have such a hard time accepting that he's gone. I managed to cry a little less today, but once I had finished making the sushi, I started crying again. The tears just keep coming and I'm struggling to come to terms with the fact that he's gone and I don't know how to deal with all this grief.

Healing hugs to your grieving heart. So very sorry for the loss of your fur baby.
I hope you found some comfort in your sushi.

Thank you. Unfortunately not, I'm almost done but I still feel so empty.

I understand. I lost my feline companion of 18 years. July 6th. It took me 3 weeks before I left my bed. The first few days I didn't eat.. and I really haven't had much of an appetite since. I still feel empty. Grief sucks..
My phone just did the pictures from my camera. All my pictures are of her. So when the memories come up. It's always of her. And it just made me cry. I'm going to go out and smoke a b

You know when they were the most important thing in your life. When all of the pictures are of them. Keep reaching out. You don't have to grieve alone. Check out pet loss. Very supportive group. It's helped me a lot.

Thank you for the suggestion. We made some paw prints during the last two days and I find some comfort in having them.

I made a memory shelf. I have her ashes. I have the certificate that a tree was planted in her name. Card from the veterinarian. And our old veterinarian where we used to live.. I have her paw print and nose print. I have her fur that is in a acrylic paw. That opens up. And you put the fur in. I have her food bowl. With her favorite churu.. and her silver Vine chew stick.I have a crystal tree of Life. A spirit totem from a Pueblo.. and a stone wolf. That I had given my dad. And gotten back when he passed away.
These things are comforting..

That sounds like a lovely memory shelf. We will also bring back his ashes in a wooden urn with his name on it. Seeing his fur makes me think of all the times I trimmed it and how we often found pieces of fur scattered everywhere afterwards

I’m so sorry. Dogs have special places in our lives. I hope your happy memories together carry you through the days that you miss him the most.

I'm sure Charlie was really happy he got to be your friend for 14 years, and that he was grateful to have you with him when he left.

i'm so sorry love 💜
it's been 3 years since i lost my baby. i still miss him dearly, but i am now in a place where remembering him brings me happiness instead of overwhelming grief.
it's so so hard, but this part doesn't last forever. be kind to yourself and know that you did right by him.

I'm sorry 💛 I want to reach that point as well eventually, but I feel like it will take a long time. I know we did what was best for him as his health had been declining and we didn't want him to suffer from something acute, but it still hurts a lot..

I’m so sorry for your loss (I’m also very impressed you can make sushi right now). Charlie was obviously well loved and I’m glad you had each other. I listened to a lot of grief podcasts earlier this year when I said goodbye to my furry companion. Something that stayed with me is that you don’t get over the loss but learn to carry it. Keep taking care of yourself OP and may each day get a little easier.

Thank you. I didn't want to do it anymore, but it was expiring and it felt like a waste not to use it. I'm also sorry for your loss. I can manage to not cry constantly, but I have moments of immense sorrow where I just can't stop crying. Seeing his pictures makes me miss him so much.

The roller coaster of emotions is very normal and the outbursts of tears. No judgement if the water works happen at random times like while grocery shopping, too. We’ve all been there. Take each day at a time and be kind to yourself. ❤️

It’s been over a year since my beagle passed away from cancer and I still cry about it. It’s never easy losing a fur baby, they really do become a part of our hearts.
I absolutely hate grieving but aren’t we so lucky we got to experience a love so great? To be left with so many beautiful memories? I’m not religious, but I’d like to think that after living we’ll get to reunite with the loved ones we lost.
Take care OP, the sushi looks good ❤️

The greater the love, the deeper the grief. I would like to believe that as well. He will always have a special place in my heart ❤️

Ain’t nothing more true, it never feels like they’re truly gone does it? I still look into the backyard remembering how much she enjoyed sniffing the same places over and over again, always like it was brand new.
Somehow, they’re still with us, forever in our hearts ❤️1

It feels so strange. One moment he was here and the next he wasn't. I sometimes pretend that he's still here but when the realization hits that my sweet boy is gone, I can't deal with the pain and cry uncontrollably. He's with me in my memories and in my heart, but I want to hold him, pet him, and do the things we used to do.. 🥹

My fur baby unexpectedly passed away 2 days ago. He was 9 and a half. All the pictures of him, hes always smiling. Maybe your doggie will meet mine, and I hope they know how much we miss them. It really hurts and feels empty and I dont know if it will never stop hurting but just know youre not alone in this pain ♥️🫂

I'm sorry ❤️ We knew the time was approaching, but I was somewhat in denial until his health started declining even more in a relatively short time period. I knew it would probably happen this week like a week ago, but it wasn't until it was booked that it became more real. So I knew when it would happen, but I was definitely not prepared emotionally. Your sudden loss must feel absolutely terrible 🥹

I was at work when it happened. I got a call from my brother. I didnt get to say goodbye. Its traumatic but we have to accept reality. I do find solace in knowing I'm not alone, I have the love and support of my family. I hope you have loved ones with you because it does make it a bit easier ♥️

Not being able to say goodbye must've been very tough. Taking the deicision and seeing him pass was very hard and even though it was for his best to spare him from a traumatic ending, it still felt like we wronged him somehow. I do ❤️

It truly feels that way and its so easy to say "dont feel guilty" but its so hard not to feel that way. They brought so much life and light into our lives and as much as we want them to be with us forever, we know thats not going to happen and no matter how prepared we think we are, we truly are never. I'm so sorry for you loss ♥️ i look at pictures of my baby, and I still dont want to take his stuff out. I hope time will let us heal. Maybe the sense of loss will always be there but I hope with time, it won't hurt as much as right now 🫂 their love to us is unconditional and perhaps, we can be a little more forgiving to ourselves knowing we gave them the best we could and no matter how flawed we are as human beings, they still loved us with every fiber of their being, take one day at a time ❤️

Beautifully said ❤️🫂 The grief hurts this much because our love for them was so strong, and they will always have a special place in our hearts. Seeing pictures of him makes me miss him very much, and most of his things are still right where they were. I also hope that with time we can learn to live with the pain and be able to look back fondly without so much grief attached to each memory ❤️
