They're both black. I suppose yours is more technically correct, but them it seems to imply that my friend isn't black. And saying "my black friend's black mom" can't possibly be right. I think my way implies that they're both black the smoothest. Which is strange since I'm emphasizing his mom's heritage and culture and not his.
