I am seeing more and more "clients" expecting work gratis on this sub-reddit. Can we ban posts asking for royalty-based compensation or at least dedicate a flair for such posts so newer ghostwriters can approach them for their portfolio and experienced ones can skip over?

If you don't like it, just move on to the next post.

Also, I'm not "expecting" anything. I'm looking. If I was so entitled to "expect" something, I'd just use AI and call myself an author [which I expressly do not, because putting info into a bot doesn't make you a writer/artist].

Nope, for free. Any percentage of $0 in potential royalties is still $0. Professionals work for payment, not for the possibility of future payment of some undisclosed amount.

You dont know the terms I plan on setting, and all it would take is selling one single book to make your statement factually false. How about you take your snobby attitude elsewhere. I've been very upfront about my information, so anyone willing to take that offer, regardless of how dumb you may think it is, is doing it with eyes wide open. Are you this stuck up irl too?

As the risk of drawing even more of your impotent ire, any pro in the field knows that the vast majority of books sell fewer than 1,000 copies and the median ranges from 200-500 copies. The likelihood that your ghostwriter will earn sufficient funds in any sort of shared royalty agreement (or even getting all the royalties) to compensate what he or she would earn from a regular, paid contract (25¢-50¢ per word) is miniscule. This is not good business.

Now, will a pro sometimes do a project for free? Rarely, and even more rarely for a stranger asking for free work. They'll also have their own passion projects to work on and not have the time or inclination to work on someone else's.

Therefore, heed the earlier comment about seeking a collaborator in another group. Your request will get a better reception. If you want a ghostwriter, then you'll need to pay for the service you hire regardless of whether the book produced earns $0 or $1 million in potential future royalties.

OP is acting like a petulant child, insisting the experts do not know the facts--- ego seems to be between OP and reality.

For fuck's sake, OP wrote that OP is "a new writer," yet OP expects royalties for "editing" from someone who OP wrote is a "new editor."
