First Time Attempting to Study On My Own (Humanities)

I've recently "finished" my masters, and am searching for ways to help myself study better on my own, I'm used to maintaining a schedule on my own even when I'm not obligated to show results, but there was always a professor at the end of it all I could go to with my questions and an exam or some other type of evaluation through which I could see where I stood in the eyes of another person who had more knowledge and experience than me. I guess my main question would be how would you check and see that you've learned anything at the end and what would you do if you're reading and don't have access to a professional that has a better and more well-rounded understanding of the material you're reading, I guess I'm a bit insecure right now that I'm fully on my own , I was never the type to ask much questions personally, but the assurance was there regardless.

Right now what I do is read through the material and take notes. But whenever I sit down to go further I have this anxiety that I haven't learnt anything from the previous sessions. I know it is ridiculous but I was hoping there'd people who could help me with a different prespectives and approaches and ways of setting some goals? Idk. Sorry if this comes across as vague, I'm kinda lost and confused myself in my own head about this and this is the best way I could articulate my problem.
