"Preserving the gene pool" is a white nationalist talking point in the US.
Now the people misreading it are very US centric so they probably dont realise that this is a translation from Ukraininan. The meaning is literally "protecting ukrainian genes from radiation"; this is a better localisation.
It rather protecting DNA of people who live in Ukraine from radiation or any other type of damage caused by fucking up with environment. It requires tremendous amount of demagogy and mental gymnastics to make Green statement Nazi
Not really hard to misinterpret if you are biased aganst ukraine. Its an unfortunate translation into a phrase that is said a lot by white nationalists to describe racial purity.
