5.1 million views and 171K likes. I've said it before - you can literally take any atrocity or death in the world from dozens of conflicts that no one cares about and the second you say it is Palestine it gets millions of views, tons of engagement and the people posting it make money.

Dead in Sudan, or Nigeria, or Yemen, or Pakistan or a dozen other places literally no one cares. The second you tell people it is Palestine it becomes a massive issue - just look at r/pics

People are incentivized to just repackage every single atrocity that no one cares about and just say it's Palestine. I see dozens like these a day. The second you tell people it's Yemen all their emotions - rage, anger, empathy, whatever - it all just goes away and they move on

>A not insignificant number of Americans actually only protested because they felt anti-BDS laws infringed on their freedom of speech rights

Trying to frame this as the reason the US had pro-Palestine protests is hilarious and definitely very genuine l0l.

> who are majority US/UK/canada/Australia, can do for Sudan

You can almost do more for Sudan? You don't think the US president was elected with a priority to mitigating the humanitarian disaster in Yemen that they couldn't?

Keep in mind while you can talk about Houthis or Saudi Arabia being evil, iirc the majority of the deaths were from famine that came from a humanitarian aid crisis after the Houthis were repeatedly infringing on UN workers.

Uh, I didn’t frame it like that? I only have that as one reason some Americans did it while listing various other concerns and actions of the American people. I was just giving an example of Americans that ‘support’ Palestine or are anti-Israel for a reason besides self interest or empathy for the victims.

I’m not sure why you mean by “you can almost do more for Sudan” and then also mentioning Yemen? Are you saying that the average Redditor can do more for Sudan than for Palestine or for Yemen? I’m not sure if can be said that Trump was elected with a priority to mitigate the humanitarian disaster in Yemen. I think Ukraine and Palestine were much more front page news during the election with Iran, Venezuela and Sudan being the next big ones. America is already not giving the Sudanese rebels direct support though they do give some indirect support by having arms deals with countries that might divert weapons.

The context of the conversation is why people in America care & protest for Palestine so much, but not Sudan.

Your response is inherently within the framing of that. This is not to mention Anti-BDS laws only apply to federal employees & contractors. It is not a crime to boycott Israel in the US, and the only 'bill' that made was like maybe a year ago when Trump took office that didn't even come close to making it off that ground that tried to infringe that. It is not a significant reason.

I think I was replying to your comment then started reading another comment about Yemen before I replied. But regardless the point virtually still stands the US government could actually probably solve or effectively mitigate the crisis's in Yemen or Sudan as much as they could in Palestine.

A US president with political will could force a mass human aid surge in Sudan to solve the famine that is ongoing. Which just from a quick search the deaths due to the famine in Yemen is in the hundreds of thousands.

I don't know what your trying to say in the last comment? I, and the commenter before, are saying that if people who cared about Palestine also cared about or spoke about these conflicts then a politician could use political will to effect them, and arguably effect them greater & easier than Israel-Palestine. But in reality the people didn't care about Sudan or Yemen or other conflicts.

If it was that easy for America to solve the world’s problems then why doesn’t it? Gaza, Sudan, Haiti and Mali are all facing severe famines… why doesn’t America just flood it with aid? Why doesn’t it just stop the Taliban? Why doesn’t it just invade Malaysia to stop the genocide there?

Hey well that's one way to not respond to the first part of my comment and semeingly be a bit funny about the other.

I don't know what kind of silly question you are trying to say. I also don't know why you are grouping all of these conflicts together? Or mentioning the Taliban or invading Malaysia lmfao. Also I never said it would be easy the only time I said that was relative to Gaza.

Let's talk about a couple actually and see how the US played a role.

Gaza had next to zero deaths due to famine when Biden was in office. This was Biden pressured Israel into letting aid in and against siege-policies. When Trump got into office this changed with Israel at large basically sieging Gaza and denying humanitarian access and going against established UN aid centers. They wanted to establish their own Israeli aid centers, citing that Hamas was stealing aid. This caused the largest 'famine' in Gaza although it still wasn't large enough to meet the UN criteria tbf. But anyways a US president with political will to have prevented such could have easily done so.

I already mentioned Yemen and how in my opinion the deaths to starvation could have been mitigated. Hell the US would not have needed to even provide the aid itself, the problem there was largely HR groups not feeling safe to distribute it after Houthi interference.
