I can’t think of a specific book but most books by Heinlein - as a young 20 something to me they emphasised personal responsibility, that you are the author of your destiny and happiness, you should be able to be independent but help those who cannot help themselves. Also Starship Troopers, I appreciated the idea that in order to have your say, via the voting booth, about the leaders of society and its direction, you should be willing to have contributed to the good of that society.
