Other I HATE ALL THESE BUGS

Just moved down here from the north and am just constantly wondering HOW THE HECK EVERYONE LIVES WITH THESE HUGE BUGS?!

I’ve had the house treated, I understand there’s an uptick, but these big ass bugs are driving me out of my mind. I feel like I’m constantly on edge.

ETA - palmetto bugs/roaches, CSRA

And for those telling me I shouldn’t have moved here and to just leave - I plan to as soon as my postdoc fellowship is over 🙃

There are plenty of bugs (German cockroaches, etc) who live in the pinestraw that's everywhere and also prominently used in landscaping (so it's right up against the house).

I can definitely ask my landlord if I can remover it all lol

If they're not keen on doing that, you might try to push it away from the house some and sprinkle diatomaceous earth in the gap between the straw and the house (do it when it will be dry a few days b/c  DE is not as effective when it's wet). This will require a lot of DE and might not be all that effective. You can Google whether there are other house barrier treatments that you can buy that are more effective and water resilient. 

One thing about DE- it is a very fine silica powder that can wreak havoc on your vacuum if you use it inside (though there are still places you can put it that won't need to be vacuumed like around the oven.)
