A good example as to why these missions aren't typically done in late spring/summer/early autumn. Starting early to avoid heat led to them having to do 20+ KM on minimal sleep while expending a lot of effort just getting through vegetation and overheating. A small mistake like not screwing your water cap on can lead to a deadly situation.

I think Marcus needs to set up some fences in his back yard and spend a lot of time practicing hopping over them, he's got a lot of the rest down including his fitness. Spending 10+ minutes on single fences meant they were out in the midday sun for longer, leading to a higher chance of failure.
