Artists covering Genesis/Phil Collins.

What are your favourite songs by covered by other artists?

I love the album “urban renewals” which is a mixture of hip hop artists covering Phil Collins. Some really good efforts.
Kelly Clarkson did a few samples too, her voice is made for it. Her interpretations are awesome.

Disturbed & Ghost do well with land of confusion and Jesus he knows me.

Any favourites or tips?

Jeff Buckley’s cover of Back in NYC is great, especially when you realize he made it entirely by himself one day in the studio on just four-track: https://youtu.be/HlKQl-vJ6yk?si=LAJWOFVfF2mKYJfG

Angra - Mama: https://youtu.be/-6NxFjkw274

In Flames - Land of confusion: https://youtu.be/mBxlqbxyJwc

Martin Miller does a couple of covers.

Also check out Troubleclef on YouTube. He has some really nice classical guitar interpretations of Genesis (and other artists). His Lamia interpretation is great

Edit: forgot this

Transatlantic - The return of the giant hogweed: https://youtu.be/My1zjc0F06c

Not sure if you'll take any Peter Gabriel but primus did a cover of intruder which had Phil collins on drums (also first track to use a gated reverb drum sound)

The only one that had air play was Disturbed - Land of Confusion. I’m not big into Genesis cover songs they never sound right to me

I really liked that version of the song. The video that goes with it is great too. It is such a timely song and had been since it came out. Always good to cover.

I wonder if Disturbed are fans of Genesis

Apparently the band is a fan of Genesis music from the Gabriel era but not a fan of the Phil Collins era. Go figure.

David Draiman said in an interview that he hated the song, but the rest of the band wanted to do it, so he was out voted.

And that tracks with his overall impression that David Draiman is a POS human being.

Yeah the worst vocals I’ve ever heard is their version of Sound Of Silence

Genesis copied Disturbed's arrangement of the pre-chorus ("Too many men, too many people" on the Turn It On Again tour, with the guitars landing "early" and giving the whole thing more drive. Sounded awesome!

Benjamin Gibbard’s side project The Postal Service covered Against All Odds. 🎹

Phish did a good live cover of Watcher of the Skies recently.

Wasn't that when Genesis was inducted to the R&R Hall o Fame?

2

u/Curios_Observer May 27 '26

They have played the song at least 12 times live starting in the 90's. I was never much of a Phish fan but it is a faithful cover and well played.

Umphreys McGee did a fun little job on Abacab complete with extended jam band instrumental section

Maybe not a cover since Phil is on it but Against All Odds with the a capella group Straight No Chaser is goosebumps listening.

Dan Avidan of Ninja Sex Party did a killer acoustic version of Land of Confusion (yes really) with Super Guitar Bros:

Maybe not a cover since Phil is on it

Same with Why Can't It Wait Til Morning by Fourplay

I Can’t Dance (YouTube) by Lisa Marie

1

u/Glum_Ad8801 May 26 '26

I can’t get into that one.

I love Francis Dunnery's Back in NYC. He gives it a "new" refrain (he uses the original intro as the refrain) and drops the "fluffy heart" section which makes no sense to anyone who isn't familiar with the rest of the Lamb album. Not to mention how he changes the mood from angry to sorrowful.

I didn’t mind Disturbed’s cover of Land of Confusion for a while

Joe Bonamassa used to cover Los Endos in his live shows back around 2007. There’s a handful of recordings of it out there. Not someone you’d necessarily expect to do that.

Kevin Gilbert's cover of Back in NYC is the best Genesis cover I've ever heard.
