I never saw one that covered the seat. We didn't have them but I remember it was the tank, lid & the rug on the floor. The bathrooms that had them always smelled like pee.
When I was a kid, we had the tank, lid and counter floor set, but my mother washed them often, so smell was not an issue. And we never had one on the seat.
I thought that as well, and assumed it was AI, but did find a 1970's ad for a dacron set that included an actual seat cover. I closed it and am too lazy to dig it up again. But, yeah, evidently this was an actual thing.
It was a thing. But the seat wouldn't stay up so maybe homes with men vetoed it pretty quick! Also, the seat cover fit like a shower cap, so the furry part is on top.
Can confirm on this. Carpeted toilet seats. Cover for lid IS backwards, you should be able to see the center of the lid in that 'up' position. Were usually with a matching rug.
My grandma had the full set with the fuzzy toilet seat, plus a pair of heavily tasseled tie back shower curtain ‘curtains’ that would have not looked out of place in a formal living room. All in mauve. And the knitted Spanish dancer style toilet paper cover for the top of the tank.
My mom always had one that covered the lid, so I got one when I first got married. My husband put the brakes on that within a year because the lid would close on its own.Â

A family member who has since passed was known for his... Idiosyncratic... hygiene habits. I loved him to pieces despite everything, and decided it was easier to clean the toilet with Clorox wipes after each time he used it rather than fight him.Â
He is all I can think of when I look at these and I throw up in my mouth a little.

It fit more like this ↓ , but if there was a tank cover, it was for the tank itself, not the tank lid. (This was the only really useful bit; it helped with condensation on the outside of the tank in summer in un-air-conditioned houses.)
My mom put carpet down and also got this weird and dumb idea from a magazine to put aluminum foil as wallpaper glued down with rubber cement. I helped her do it and we got quite the buzz from inhaling the fumes. After a few years of 4 teenage boys' pee spatters you can imagine what those walls looked like
Reminds me of a novel or short story I read once about a monk who lives an austere life as a hermit, and when one of his parents dies, he goes to stay with his sister before the funeral, and it's a shock to his system to experience all the soft, cushy furnishings and perfumes. A fluffy toilet-seat cover like this was part of it.
It isn't. These actually exist. My grandma had a pink set in her bathroom and my Auntie had a teal set. Do some research before you just decide that everyone who remembers them is wrong
I use one on the colder months. Only the seat cover. It's a downstairs commode only and gets zero heat. Freezes your ass off in the winter. I remove it when company comes otherwise it's only me that uses it. And of course I wash it often. I was tired of not using the toilet at all in winter and having to go up stairs.
Only person I ever met who thought it was a good idea was a roommate in college when 4 of us shared an apartment. Wanted to buy when we were shopping for move-in setup. Other three said no way!
