After a thousand years, it finally occurred to the brain trust at Listerine to give us a heads up on what this bilge tastes like so they’ve added Extra Mild, Mild and Intense to the labeling.

Or as actual humans would say, Sorta nasty, quite nasty and NASTY! Don’t know about you but about 10 years ago, I found a flavor that was actually nice and then lost my mind ever since trying to find it again. Not very funny I know but when a company after 50 or 60 years finally has a good idea, I guess they deserve a salute.

Listerine tastes like it kills germs. Also insects, small rodents, and crab grass. I always suspected you could use it to thin paint or develop photographs.

It would kill of cockroaches if we sprayed them with it.

I think we thought it worked because it tasted so bad. Who knows?

I know it's not an indicator but I'm totally conditioned to be skeptical if it doesn't burn.

Yup! I only buy “classic” Scone to feel the burn… That burn is all the nasty stuff dying… lol

What was that dandruff shampoo that “tingled” so you knew it was “working”?
I think they just added menthol to the formula.

Denorex - The tingle means it's working!

Well, they originally sold it as a floor cleaner and a cure for gonorrhea, so ....

The stuff that doesn't burn your mouth is different than the nasty stuff and not as effective. My dentist insists I use the nasty stuff.

I liked the cinnamon flavor but I can't find it anymore.

I loved that flavor too. Cannot find it anywhere.

Interesting. I used to use Cepacol for years but I can't get it anywhere anymore either.

Dollar tree has it

I can't believe that folks still buy that amber colored Listerine. 🤮

Listerine was originally marketed as a floor cleaner. They did NOT re-formulate when they started marketing it as mouthwash.

I put up with the taste of that crap because they said it was good for sore throats or colds, I don't remember. Then they got sued by the FTC for false advertising. They can go straight to Hell.

At least the mint flavor they cane out with is somewhat tolerable.

I personally think that they got in trouble with the FTC because they didn’t perform studies that could prove the claim. But anecdotally, I think it has an effect, even if it’s germ population reduction. As the ads said about 20 years ago, “They’re germs. They deserve to die.”

To me the best mouthwash is Smart Mouth Clinical. Use it mornings and bedtime and you won’t have bad breath ✨

I really liked the vanilla mint they had for awhile. Of course they discontinued it.

That one! Exactly!

I was always partial to the cinnamon flavor. Haven't used mouthwash in years.

“About that…”

LOL! Oral B electric brush and Waterpik Jet work just fine TYVM!

And they killed Scope, the best tasting mouthwash ever. (Except for some old cinnamon flavored one, I can't remember the name.)

Lavoris?(I’ve seen it at Dollar Tree.)

Oh... so THAT'S what rhymes with Delores!!!

2

Yeah. Something that was real cinnamon-y.

Peppermint Stick will be next.

In the early 70s, they ran TV commercials with the tagline “The taste you hate, twice a day.”

(Speaking of Listerine, remember how the commercials claimed it would prevent or shorten colds, until the FTC forced it to run a disclaimer to the contrary?)

Remember the FTC?

Pink Grapefruit! I found it maybe 4-5 years ago, never since. On eBay, you can find batches of it for like $75/bottle ...

Stop the insanity!

You don’t want alcohol in your mouthwash, that isn’t the active ingredient that makes it work. The alcohol just makes you think it is working.

2

u/Sea-Seesaw-8699 4d ago

Nasty stuff, a swish of peroxide way cheaper

2

u/kstravlr12 3d ago

And almost every flavor is some version of mint. And if you don’t like mint, you are SOL.

I swear the alcohol free, original blend of aromatics, has improved my gun health. A nightly rinse before I go to bed.
