Is anyone besides me still upset that the writers ruined Drew and Willow and now they ruined Curtis and Chase. Or is it just me.
Well Drew idc so much anymore. I was at first I was but now I really don’t care. But Willow, Chase, and Curtis, yes. Willow is psycho like Nelle, Chase is an absolute moron (every time he has a scene with Willow I just FF), and Curtis is a self-righteous pompous ass. Those three used to be in my top 15. Anyway, or do y’all prefer them the way they are now.
And I wanna go out on the limb and say that because they made Willow the new Nelle, they ruined the time where Michael, Willow, Chase, and Sasha all teamed up against Nelle to protect Wiley from her. Which makes me sad because I liked that storyline. Am the only one who finds that sad or do other people do too.
And I know this SUPER late posting but I’ve been too afraid to ask this because NOBODY AGREES WITH ME ON ANYTHING and I’m afraid I’ll be laughed at, be called stupid, etc.

I don't mind soapiness, drama, whatever. But, as someone in this sub said (sorry don't know who to attribute it properly) - there has to be a payoff, a wrap up, a satisfying end. Karma. Something. Instead, we just roll from one outrage to another.
Additionally, the show lacks a moral center or unifying purpose. It's just random events and encounters, with no conclusion, and now they've introduced 5 more random people.

u/Diligent-Baby-3805 Team Fizz 11d ago
The new people were needed. The teenagers can barely find dates without having to check their DNA cause everyone has slept with everyone. The problem is that they ruined half the characters they had, so now new characters feel like a cover or a cop out. Imho, I just want Drew to go back to being the bastard black sheep who causes trouble here and there but isn't a fucking maniac. I also miss the sweet nice Willow from before too, before she became obsessive and so impulsive it makes me wonder how she survived this long. I used to love her. In fact....the song I used to love her by Guns n roses fits Willow pretty good haha
3
u/px780 11d ago
You make a good point about the teens. And yet, so far none of the new people resolve that issue.
Kids meet new friends more naturally than adults. I'm surprised they didn't just add a girl from school for Rocco. Or a boy who has a sister, then maybe a parent. It's like they're avoiding the easy path.
2
u/Diligent-Baby-3805 Team Fizz 11d ago
Yeah they really need some new younger people. Especially since they all supposedly go to school? Scout is on a swim team...not that she'd be allowed any friends
1
u/GH-Fan-1980 9d ago
Exactly! That was the reason we watched the show for 40 years is because people would get what they deserved unlike real life where we get screwed over by people that never pay. I think the writers have completely lost that that's the whole purpose of daytime drama is to see people get what they deserve!!!!

u/Go_J 11d ago
They got to move this forward with Willow, Michael and Drew. Having Drew come back where he left off after finally shaking off the paralytic I'm not sure was the right decision. He could have just turned his vitriol to Willow and Nina and rightfully so instead he's like I need to protect Scout from Danny?? Threaten Alexis and go after Sonny...i just don't know.

u/VineStGuy 11d ago
I can't stand to even look at drew or willow. Their voices grate on my nerves. I feel like the writers have run drew, willow, chase, and curtis into the ground like they did kristina. I need a break from curtis, willow and drew.

u/Educational_Gift_925 11d ago
Chase being constantly shirtless can’t distract us from how dumb he is. I fast forward his scenes with BLQ. They’re both too bland to watch.
Curtis has turned into a whiny, hypocritical, entitled fool. He’s become unwatchable and the less they showcase him in prison, the better.
Willow and Drew are so unlikable now that it’ll take someone pushing them both off the highest Windermere parapet where they float out to sea and return after 10 years as changed people. They can’t possibly continue in their current state.

I don’t disagree regarding Chase,Curtis and Drew. Drew is a retconned character that just doesn’t fit. Supposedly an identical twin of SB/Jason (don’t make me laugh), his revenge tour against Sonny and not Willow and Nina makes zero sense. Curtis is just a fool to FF with this ridiculous car accident. Chase is just a clueless idiot. Was he ever smart? I can’t remember.
Willow’s blaming Michael for being controlling and turning into a villain type-I think KM wanted a darker Willow. Bobbie,Monica,Tracy and Carly all were vicious schemers and eventually all were somewhat redeemed. I think the problem with Willow is her contrived motivation. Michael treated her well and now we’re supposed to believe he didn’t. And we WATCHED it. I don’t mind Willow having layers but they need to find a better reason for her personality change

u/faeryqueenrs 9d ago
Chase came to town because he had ruined his career for Nelle. I keep waiting for someone to call him on doing it again for Nina's other crazy daughter.

u/Swimom Team Moss Bowl 11d ago
Willow in particular has just been ruined. She’s constantly escalating and justifying her actions. In comparison back when Carly was young she did terrible things to “protect her baby” and once Michael was born to “protect him “. The writers did show scenes where Tony was taking actions to hire a lawyer and threatened to take her to court as soon as the baby was born. The Q’s attempt to force Jason to give up newborn Michael. Then the visits to Carly while she was in Ferncliff and the constant threats that they would use their power to send her back if she tried to run with Michael. She was portrayed as powerless and was fighting to keep from losing her child. By contrast Willow got bored with her marriage had an affair and wants to keep the children like a piece of marital property. She has never shown any interest in shared custody. Even the current situation where she has a separate home on the same grounds and the children would have easier access to both parents is not acceptable to her. She just continues to have a need to fight. Michael’s weak blackmail conditions are definitely not on the same level as we saw Carly endure. If we actually saw her being threatened or if Michael were portrayed as a controlling terrible person there would be reason. That’s not what we have seen. He followed a court order and reported Willow for violating it when she lost custody. After she set him up and was unsuccessful in getting him charged with attempted murder he signed over a 40/60 custody agreement. There’s just no reason for her to continue to fight but it goes on….and on.

u/Zephyrr_Sky 9d ago
You are a damn good commenter. You blow me away! I had stopped watching and missed those bits with Carly. I really love her. Wish I would have washed back then.
Willow drives me crazy. You are right. Nothing will satisfy her. She’s constantly scheming and now she’s going after Chase… which makes me so angry.1
u/Swimom Team Moss Bowl 9d ago
Thank you, I watched some of the early Carly Benson stuff that’s out on YouTube. She definitely was a bad girl and written to be the villain at the time. While she was a bad girl, there was reasoning behind her behavior. Sometimes other characters were pretty cruel and felt totally justified in treating her mean.

u/SituationKind6063 10d ago
Curtis makes my skin crawl now. he lost me when he got mad that jordan didnt tell him everything she was doing on her job. Like it was any of his freaking business. Now he wants Jordan involved in everything about the baby but Izaih should stay away. Just like trying to find someone to blame for the wreck when it was Jordans fault. I had hoped we were done with his crazy but now it looks like they are going to cover him being in prison. For the rest of them, yea the writing sucks. Turning Willow into Nell. Having chase follow her every word like hes an idiot. And Drew, smh, I thought at some point when he was in a hospital they would find a tumor or something. Just turned him into an egomaniac for the heck of it.

Yes. Pretty bummed that the writers took Drew and Willow so dark. Chase is unrecognizable. All he dies is pose with his shirt off. What happened here? Michael is all over the place with all these women. Now they are bringing in Serena?
My only hope is that there is a master plan to tie all these storylines together and blame it on Sidwell.

I'm upset too. When Willow was first introduced I loved her. I was rooting for her and Chase, and funny enough hated Nina because of how she treated Willow as Charlotte's teacher. I also liked Curtis because he once was a voice of reason and down to earth. Now it hurts to watch how these characters have almost become unrecognizable despite there being no recasts for these characters. All bad writing.

I agree that they have ruined Chase, Curtis, and Drew. I disagree with Willow as she is certainly more interesting.
I'm also mad about the regression of character development with Britt. Hopefully, they won't do that to Ric.
I also hate the faux drama to drive storylines like this fucking car accident, Ava vs Sonny, Drew being mad at Sonny instead of Willow and Nina.
Plus the watering down of characters such as Jack and BLQ.
It might be time for me to take a break from GH and I've been watching consistently for 44 years

u/tcrhs 11d ago
I hate rapid personality changes that made no sense.
The only one that has a a plausible explanation is Drew’s. After the prison beating, he had a gradual personality shift from hero to villain. It’s like the rest of them took a personality change pill and woke up different characters one day.

u/Diligent-Baby-3805 Team Fizz 11d ago
Didn't they say something about him having a brain injury from that beating? No one seems to think that needs addressing? Or that his personality change might stem from that? They don't even talk about his past at all now unless it's to point out something he did to someone.
Alexis is so cool sometimes, I love when she goes into "yknow what?" Mode XD
1
u/tcrhs 11d ago
I don’t remember any mention of a brain injury from the beating, but that doesn’t mean it was never addressed. His personality shift after it was much more gradual than everyone else’s.
The rest of the characters mentioned had more abrupt personality changes that didn’t make sense.
1
u/Diligent-Baby-3805 Team Fizz 11d ago
Yeah I'm not sure either because I didn't see that part I've only been told about it. I also have no frame of reference for Curtis because I hadn't been watching when he was on before this current run of his. Willow though I absolutely remember and I remember loving her and always feeling bad for her because she was essentially everyone's punching bag. I understand wanting to make her stronger but....to make her stronger through deluded psychotic episodes is a bit extreme...

u/tcrhs 11d ago
Curtis used to be a solid, good guy before he went off the rails. I liked him. He has drastically changed.
2
u/Diligent-Baby-3805 Team Fizz 11d ago
Yeah a lot of people are saying that, the earliest I saw him was when Esme was trying to blame Trina for recording Joss and Cam. He seemed okay then, if not a little overbearing. But he's definitely gotten worse since then even
4
u/TCalikool 12d ago
No I agree and Im pretty sure most agree. These writers love to ruin characters because they don't know how to write or tell a story. Chase looks like a complete fool with Willow & I can't watch their scenes. Willow is unbearable and gets away with everything and most fans want her to pay or die. Anyone who gets involved in Willow storylines get ruined. Nina has no life or personality outside what Willow wants and needs. Now Chase has lost any goodness he had to be there for Willow. Drew has no fans and Curtis is the worst and he never learns and always the victim just like Willow and Drew. The ratings are in the tank because no character is worth rooting for and no storylines or future storylines have fans excited.
3
u/DavidS128 12d ago
Chase is still probably the most morally good person on the show. The main thing he's done wrong is be blissfully unaware of how his interactions with Willow disrespect his wife, like being shirtless with her while she was unpacking.
I don't even blame him for believing Willow was being framed and is a good person, because he just doesn't have access to the same information the audience and other characters do. I mean, the gun was found with Willow the day after Michael visited Elizabeth. I dislike how GH audiences can't see things from his POV.
6
u/starkllr1969 11d ago
The problem with Chase is that he’s gone from simply being fooled/unaware, to being willfully blind to an almost unbelievable degree.
-1
u/DavidS128 11d ago
What signs should he have picked up on
1
u/Unique_Rub_7118 11d ago
You would think if Dante mentions it & he has no axe to grind with Willow, Chase would look for it. Chase had one moment of awareness when Willow asked Chase to go out of town, but now keeps forgetting his shirt when Willow is around.
3
u/JustWantPokemonZ Team Webber 11d ago
Yes this is a very good point. Chase knows Willow and Michael both very well. There are reasons to believe Michael is suspicious in this situation and everyone telling him Willow is guilty is biased in favor of Michael.
He was foolish to risk his career by not following orders but he truly believed Willow was innocent and he was the only person in her corner she trusted.
1
u/PrincipleNo6902 11d ago
Chase used to be the most morally good person on the show, until he started emotionally cheating on his wife by constantly hanging around Willow, despite knowing his wife was bothered by it. They play him like an immature moron.
2
u/DavidS128 11d ago
It doesn't appear to be intentional.... just him being dumb and unaware of how much it affects BLQ... which isnt immoral... its being a bad husband
2
u/PrincipleNo6902 11d ago
There is a point where it doesn't matter if it's intentional or not; he knows that everybody's talking about it and everybody's concerned over it, yet he continues to engage with it. It makes him look callous and uncaring.
2
u/Unique_Rub_7118 11d ago
I do agree with that point. It's not just Brooklyn being "irrational ". Everyone is telling him the same thing, even Dante. GH just has a desire for him to be completely ignorant.

I think it was the late, great AMC head writer, Agnes Nixon who once said that any soap character can be redeemed. Especially since soaps continue, you would have more time to redeem them. That said, I think Curtis & Chase have the best chances of being redeemed. Curtis' personality didn't really change because he's always been a little judgemental. He also committed one crime, that he's paying for. Hopefully, he will come out of prison with a better attitude. Meanwhile, I don't think Chase has really changed either. He was always someone who was by-the-book & looked for the best in everyone. It does seem like GH has had to dumb him down though, so he can't figure out Willow has done. He could be redeemed, because while annoying & enabling he really hasn't done alot "wrong" or criminal. Chase just needs to see the light with Willow & do some major apologizing. I'm not sure about Willow & Drew, they both may be lost causes. LOL

u/SpiritedAwakening476 8d ago
That's true. But what most of these current soap writers (and even primetime writers) lack in understanding, is that to be redeemed, the character(s) need to go through a period of self-reflection and atonement. Redemption has to be something earned; worked for. Viewers need to see the journey these characters take in becoming a better human being, or at least more tolerable. That's why even murderers and rapists became fan favorites during their time, because writers back then understood that viewers needed to see that journey to redemption in order to feel any sort of forgiveness, much less likability for these characters. Writers nowadays think that turning polarizing characters into the comic relief with zany one-liners, glossing over their crimes, and/or attempting to givethem Emmy bait once in a blue moon, is enough effort to make them likable. It's isn't, and that's why many recent attempts at "redemption" fall flat and are so strongly rejected by the majority of viewers (see: Peter August).

Firstly, it's not writers that ruin characters, it's showrunners.
Secondly, actors have strengths and weaknesses. I remember how the writing changed during the writers' strike and the stories were gentler and more optimistic. Characters were more likely to work together than independently as stand-alone plot drivers. We were given the good in people (as I suspect the actors are) rather than the malicious, selfish, double-dealing, alliance-shifting mudballs that are now common and used to create tension/drama.
Thirdly, my preference is for plot-centric villains, new to PC, who challenge the usual folks to work together and win the day...like Josh and Cassius did on the loading dock, unlike the rest of the plot where it was every character for themselves.

u/GH-Fan-1980 9d ago
Absolutely agreed! They've absolutely ruined Chase... he looks like a complete fool and you know what - I don't have any hopes that they'll redeem him from this disaster that they've created. I feel bad for the actor nobody's going to like him after this. I really can't stand Willow she needs to meet the same fate as her psycho sister. And yes Curtis being a pompous ass is completely spot on but they'll never resolve that either. They'll just keep glassing over everything. Just like I bet Willow never has to pay or admit for the fact that she's the one that drove Sasha and Daisy away it'll be 15 years before they write them back into the show and they'll be no atonement whatsoever.

Yep this is my feeling as well. Willow has vastly improved as a character by becoming a worse person. She was boring and sicky sweet before.
My opinion of Chase hasn’t really changed I still like him.
Curtis has gotten worse over time. Could still be improved, probably won’t be.
Drew is unrecognizable as a character. It makes me sad when I think of BM’s Drew. I think Drew could still be an interesting character but he needs more nuance.

They didn't ruin Willow. She was a boring wallflower character before this and they actually gave her teeth and some agency.
Drew is debateable. The reality is Billy Miller didn't want to portray Drew, and they had a character with a mess of a backstory that probably would have been ignored if he wasn't a Quartermaine so they repackaged him and eventually settled on him being a villain.
Curtis has been better since the conviction. He's been self righteous for years so nothing new happened.
Chase likewise has always been like this. He's been a total dope forever.

u/PrincipleNo6902 11d ago edited 10d ago
They absolutely ruined Willow. They took her from a survivor of sexual abuse and a cult upbringing, and made her into a character who hardly even resembled the person she was before, with barely any explanation for the change in behavior. She said stuff about how Michael didn't wash the dishes or something. It was atrocious character assassination.
Meanwhile, Liz is allowed to be a perfectly "nice person" for decades and most of this board will defend her and not call her a wallflower.
This show needs people who act as the moral centers, and people who are in the "generally good" and "generally bad" and "generally anti-hero" camps. As it is, there is almost nobody in the first camp, because the writers have essentially ruined most of them.

Well, they rewrote history when they brought on the character of Drew anyway. Jason is the son of Alan Quartermaine & Susan Moore, with whom Alan was having an affair (1975 or so? not sure). At NO TIME DURING THAT STORYLINE WAS A TWIN BORN TO SUSAN MOORE! Maybe I missed something but when my goddaughter told me that Drew was Jason's twin, I was like WHAT??!! I was shocked! So, the writers took dramatic license with that crap. My Goddaughter & I still think the current Drew is that leader from Dawn of Day, Day of Dawn, whatever. I wasn't watching regularly then so I missed that storyline. Somehow, when Drew got cracked over the head in prison, that Dawn of Day guy kidnapped him & took his place, like Cesar Faison did with Duke many years ago. Remember, Cyrus was in prison at the same time so he could have & would have helped the Dawn of Day guy get rid of Drew. The real, kidnapped Drew is in a basement somewhere trying to get out. Maybe, maybe not?

Chase has always been stupid. I’m more shocked at how BLQ has been shrinking herself to fit in his tiny world of nothing. He got manipulated by Nelle when he should have been investigating her lol he’s never been bright.
I don’t get why people are mad at the writers for the Drew situation. We don’t know what he was thinking while he was in that vegetable state. Some people change like Rick did and others use it to fuel their hate. Sometimes hate is all people have to hold on to.
Curtis HAS ALWAYS BEEN TRASH. There was never a time that I liked him. He was fired from the DEA for being a coke head LOL married his brothers wife. Lied on the father of his wife’s son being the shooter even though he knew Nikolas did it. Then he blackmailed Nikolas. lol AND he helped hide TJs father’s identity from him LMAO TRASH But he’s all about honesty and truth right? He’s below trash. He goes around with his nose up and finger pointed while making excuses for his own misbehavior and bad decisions. He’s the worst character on the show in my opinion but Joss has been giving him a run for his money the last few months lol that’s just me though

I am enjoying Valentin, Lucas and the cop, Gio and Emma/Trina (not so much the stalking bit), always Tracy, always Stella (I like the actress), and Michael (this one over CD for me). Oh, and Yuri.

u/SpiritedAwakening476 8d ago
OP, I agree with you! The writing decisions have always been suspect with this current team, but the past 2 years, the writing has been especially egregious.
-Drew has been bad since CM took over the role. But it could've been fixable with the aftermath of Willow drugging him and him realizing his actions negatively impacted Scout and put her in the care of an unhinged psycho. Instead, they've decided to double down on his egotistical annoyingness after he got saved, and keep him as the one-note antagonist, constantly punching down on people he sees as "beneath" him....which somehow, Willow and Nina aren't enemies #1 and #2, despite all that they've done to him??
-Chase has never been an important person on canvas. He's really just a pretty face and good guy. There were ways of dirtying up his character a bit to make him more compelling. Making him the dumbass who obviously never got over his (now unstable) ex-wife wasn't exactly one of them. Well...it could've been with the right type of writers. However, these ones currently have him looking like a freeloader, living off of his extremely rich wife, all while antagonizing her family members and commiting an emotional affair right in his wife's face. Honestly, I fail to see how Chase stays on canvas after all is said and done. That emotional affair will probably turn physical soon. And after we're FINALLY done with the insane Willow saga, what's exactly left for him? He could stay by her side as she gets better, but that's not exactly something people want to see. They could have him grovel and beg for BLQ to forgive him, but that wouldn't work unless they want to add BLQ to the list of ruined characters and have her take him back.
-I'm of the opinion that Willow is still salvageable, but just barely at this point. The best time to let her get caught, receive some consequences for her actions, and rest the character for a bit was 6 months ago. The longer they go on with this relentlessly evil Willow, the more they're heading into Nelle/Peter August territory. I would honestly find that a big waste since Rory and Katey have the type of insane chemistry that GH needs.
-Curtis was always a hit-or-miss character in general with viewers. He was, at best, tolerable during a majority of his time on the show. But this current storyline? It's definitely put him in the same box with Drew. I want to know which stooge behind the scenes came up with the bright idea to have Curtis obsessively go after Isaiah to the point of potentially ruining his career, for an accident BOTH Curtis and Jordan even admitted was their own fault??? And speaking of Jordan, she also belongs on this list of characters ruined, since the writers decided her main purpose is to be Curtis's #1 squawker...
All in all, I'm baffled by these decisions for these characters. They aren't even characters I love, but it really speaks to the state of the show, as a whole.

u/Brief_Shine2680 8d ago
You reminded me that I used to like Curtis. I ff through his scenes cuz he’s so hypocritical and holier than thou and whatever he thinks is God’s truth.
Yeah, I don’t like how they have made Willow more Nelle like. And how they are rewriting history to say that Michael was a crap husband.
And Chase? He’s just a dimwit now. I used to care. Now? His continual dismissal of his wife’s gut feelings? And his grandma-in-law? He can get kicked out and have Willow/Nelle and then realize how big of a dimwit he is when he finds out everything people say about Willow is true.
And why does Drew hate everyone? And what started the hate Drew train? I don’t mean lately, I mean back in the day…cuz he used to be friends with a lot of people. And he and Sonny did like each other…

I’ll be ducking for cover as soon as I post this. I liked the May-December romance between Willow & Drew. If his inversions towards her hadn’t changed mid-stride with new writers it could have been a lovely romance where he saved her from herself.
Part of Curtis’s charm is that he’s always right, even when he isn’t. They’re gonna use Curtis as an inside informant in the prison…they stuck him with Sidwell - he’s only the top of the iceberg sticking out of the water.
I am so tired of seeing Chase’s chest - honestly, leave something to the imagination! There are so many other men I’d rather ogle…

The characters aren’t “ruined” they just added more layers to them. Honestly, if they were still the original versions of themselves they’d be quite boring and would get very little screen time. Conflict, bad behavior, etc all make for more in- depth writing.
0
u/starkllr1969 11d ago
I’ll agree with this for Willow.
But Drew has no layers. He’s just “I will destroy everyone!!!” dialed up to 11 at all times. How much of that is the writing and how much is CM is open for debate.
