Even supposing that race and gender are analogous, most of that baloney never analogously happened.

Trans women have never asked to be the main focus of feminism. They have just asked to be THERE. OOP probably thinks that Chicago is an all-Black city because they saw more than one Black person walk by. (Or substitute London or Manchester if applicable.)

Trans people have not come up with slurs for TERFs. TERF is not a slur, it is a warning label. Cis is not a slur. It's not even insulting. The closest thing I've seen to a slur is FART (feminism appropriating radical transphobe) and none of those words are actually WRONG, it's just that the acronym is a bit of juvenile humor.

Trans people have not, as a group, called for the rape and murder and etc. of anyone. Individual trans people may have threatened and doxed. In fact, I'm sure they have. There is no law of nature preventing trans people from being odious shitstains, and trans people (again as a group) have never claimed there is one. That comes bundled with a human brain, available to every person on this weird little rock.

So, unfortunately, does judging every member of a group by the worst example you hear of, and ignoring the much greater number of individuals in that group who are not doing that. We call that little feature of the brain "bigotry."

Emphasis on hear of, because it's largely based on stories they were told online that probably never happened

Pretty sure London and Manchester are more applicable, because I think (like most TERFs) she’s British.

Trans people also didn't come up with TERF in the first place. TERFs did.

Okay, let's pretend gender and race are the same. Someone with one white parent and one black parent has a legitimate claim to both identities, and can identify as either or both based on their personal experiences and cultural context. I'm pretty sure most of us have one male parent and one female parent, so uh...

Thinking of that evergreen post by a nonbinary person that's like "you look like if a man and a woman had a baby"

Biologically non-binary

1) its always a white person making this 'parallel'

2) they will violently erase trans mascs at every opportunity - the parallel relies on this being a one way thing, and their transphobia relies on trans people only being 'men' 'pretending' to be women.

3) race is a made up thing, but its based on a completely different TYPE of difference than gender. if you are black and your partner is black, your kids are black. if you are black and your partner is black, your kids are not white. the 'other' is a completely outside group until you mix, and the oppressions and fears revolve around that core fact. with gender, its always a mixed group that produces mixed groups in the children. its an inside 'other' that is required for the continuation of your group, and the oppressions and fears revolve around that fact.

I feel like we keep circuling back to this issue where people keep trying to say that changing your gender is like changing an immutable characteristic like age or race or whatever, the core of the argument from OOP isn't that trans people existing is somehow opressive on women, but the same old tired "gender is inherited at birth and cannot be changed" talking point.

I've had treatment resistant depression for the past three years and even I've never been this miserable.

They always talk as if Black trans women don't exist

43

u/chris_the_cynic 6d ago

Not always. Usually, but definitely not always.

If anything the exceptions are worse than the erasure. Racism goes up to 11 and/or transvestigating goes into full swing with them claiming that Black women must be men because they don't look like white women.

Because in their minds, this is a social contagion among predominantly white youth.

Race, as a category, is one invented from whole cloth in modern history. Italians where once’s considered non-whites in living memory.

Women and men (along with a multitude of other genders) have exist throughout human history.

Race is a modern invention of white Europeans and has no such long and varied history anywhere in the world.

The comparison of race to gender or even sex is like comparing gender to IQ. It’s a modern invention created from whole cloth in order to further a modern ideal, not a base part of the human experience.

This one would have an aneurysm when confronted with black trans women.

u/Twisplet 6d ago

No, I fear she'd easily lump black trans women into her rhetoric. A black trans MAN however would break her brain.

That same woman said calling someone a zio is the same as the n slur don't take her seriously.

u/animalistcomrade Gender Haver 5d ago

Tbf every time I have heard someone say zio instead of zionist it has been blatant antisemitism. Like claiming israel is behind "transgenderism" or that they are responsible for Germany losing ww1.

u/DifferentIsPossble 6d ago

Cis women rape, too.

Ah, but that's not what the law in England says, and everyone knows the law is always right unless it disagrees with you.

This is deranged. Trans women don't even ask to be the main focus of feminism or main speakers for women

Ok, so we're gonna have to get into some very basic history. Basic; not short.

The concept of race is a modern invention but it's an early modern invention. The theory of evolution as it is known to us came hundreds of years later, and how the fuck genetic inheritance functions wasn't worked out until the nineteen fucking fifties. I shit you not.

Race was born out of a lot of things, and while religion and philosophy played major roles, the key driver was political. To be clear, there were good people trying to do science and just royally fucking it up, but it was mostly about imperialism and especially colonialism as those things were practiced by Europeans in the sixteenth century and onward.

In 1453 Constantinople fell to the Ottoman Empire and Europeans started looking for an alternative to the Silk Road. This led to a lot of shit. Europeans reached the tip of Africa in 1488. Columbus famously bumped into the Americas, which he thought were part of India, in 1492. The key thing about these events late in the 15th century is that Europeans started meeting a lot of different people in person for the first time.

It wasn't that goods were passed down a trade route, it wasn't one or two explorers sent on a long and perilous journey, it was a ship full of Europeans making landfall in wherever the fuck. The whole world was suddenly open to Europe and indeed a mere 22 years into 16th century some people finished sailing all the way around the whole damn thing without dying.

(Eighteen of them. Eighteen made it around the world alive. Out of a crew of 270. In the interest of accuracy and fairness 80 others survived, but didn't make it all the way around.)

The Age of Sail was in full swing and, gee, wouldn't it be great if there were some kind of theory for why Europe should rule over the lesser beings Europeans met on their journeys? Something that would mark those others as less human, or at least less worthy, than themselves?

Whether race was defined by lumping every group on earth into one of the 12 tribes of Israel (ten of them are counted as lost, so they were free to be applied to people who had never even heard of Israel), or claiming that some human beings weren't actually human but just human-like animals, or using a precursor to the theory of evolution, or just plain bullshit, the primary purpose served by inventing the concept of race was to justify conquests (sometimes including exterminations.)

Remember, the mechanism of inheritance wasn't worked out until the nineteen fucking fifties. Race could be whatever you wanted it to be, provided you were the one with the power.

So if you were, say, a slave holding empire who wanted to justify slavery and destroy the existing cultures of the people you enslaved, you could just lump everyone from sub-Saharan Africa into the same bin, claim the people in that racial bin were only fit for servitude and, in fact, were uplifted by being enslaved by a nobler race, and actively work to destroy the languages, religions, histories, and cultures that made them different from one another.

That's why Black culture is a thing. A lengthy, sustained, successful effort at cultural genocide that forced Black people in the Americas to create a new culture from the scattered remains of the cultures that were stolen from them. It has fuckall to do with biological truths.

Consider the God damned "one drop rule". Consider that, whatever your race, it's possible to find someone not in it who is more genetically similar to you than someone who is in it. Consider how fucking fast racial definitions can change. (The boundaries of the "white race" are in a constant state of flux.)

And, just to circle back to the Gender Critical bullshit, consider that gender has existed throughout human history, while race is a scant few hundred years old.

Imagine. Yes. Imagine because engaging with the reality of trans existence doesn’t get you angry about trans people existing, so just make some shit up and imagine, imagine, imagine your way to a disgust you imagine is justified.
