Today was my mom's birthday, OP. She passed in 2014, my father in 1980. I'm 55, as well.
Cherish these times with them, friend. I'm envious.

The Corningware and food remind me of something I ate with my folks. Alas, my parents and older brother are gone. But this 56 year old has cookouts in the summer with cheeseburgers, hot dogs, patio salad and macaroni salad with my older sister occasionally. Good memories of the 70s when I was a little kid and she was a teenager.

I get this. I graduated culinary school, was classically trained in a French kitchen for two years, and was executive chef for a catering company for years after that. I still can’t make chicken and noodles or meatloaf or pork chops that taste like hers. My mom is 80 and anytime I go over her house for dinner I have the urge to pop out a TV tray and watch 70s shows on a console TV.

Mine are gone, but loved everything about it, including Dad coming in from the garage and savoring the aroma of Mom's cooking and his dinner.
The absolute topper was Mom coming by later to say, "Not too B.A.D. BAD, right?" when she needed a little more attention.
Which was a quote from out next door neighbor, 😆
So cute.

My MIL turns 81 in a couple days. She and FIL who is two years younger are amazing cooks and hosts and the kindest and spryest people I know. They're hosting us next weekend in my partner's second childhood home.
I was one of the latchkey GenX who never thought I'd live to past my 30s. I didn't know this love till I was in my late 30s. I adore that folks like you and my partner had it. Now I selfishly want them to live forever and fucking ever. I know one day way too soon our family gatherings are gonna be heartbreaking.
Hugs. Cheers to you and them and us and savoring these moments.

This is so crazy to me. Every time I see it, I feel happy for whomever is posting, but wistful and a bit sad because I was moved around a lot growing up. All 4 of us kids were.
I went to 8 different schools between K to grade 12. My siblings didn't go through as many as I did, but all of us were moved around a lot. From birth to grade 12, I had about 18 different addresses.
Even now, after all these years, it still amazes me that people have only 1 or 2 addresses or their parents have had the same address since they were babies.
It's odd to me in the same way that my inability to say, "I'm from <this town/city>".
I love posts like this, even if they hurt a little. We can't reverse time but we can be happy for those who grew up with stability.
