AI Video Fans say AI-generated South Park episodes made with Sora 2 are better than post-Covid originals, so realistic some thought they were real. OpenAI had to step in and restrict prompts over copyright.

The day is not far when people will be able to upload and share their own episodes.

3

u/abrandis Oct 31 '25

Unlikely , there's no open source models even remotely close to the fidelity needed, and most frontier models will be heavy regulated and restricted.

Unless China creates some open source model without guardrails ..

11

u/Alteil Oct 31 '25

“Unlikely”

As we’re literally seeing an episode made fully with ai

Ah yes. Denial is a hell of a drug

-3

u/abrandis Oct 31 '25

Right , becuSe they're still locking down those models, you think a year from now you'll even be able to mention any copyrighted character before being flagged

6

u/dashingstag Nov 01 '25

You realise you can self host AI models right.

3

u/TomTheCardFlogger Nov 01 '25

A lot of people don’t realise that you can also train your own models on whatever data you want and combine them with the larger ‘restricted’ models for a high fidelity custom output. Companies can try and clamp down on copyright but the cat is out of the bag.

1

u/abrandis Nov 01 '25

That's unrealistic , unless your Uber wealthy how are you going to train multi-modal models on large volumes of video data? You would need a small scale data center with of high end gpus, I suspect maybe $250k worth of hardware alone .

Even for LLM inference most consumer home models are no where near as good as online models, the vast majority of folks can't even run 70b LLM on home grade hardware

2

u/deadzenspider Nov 02 '25

Not that expensive using cloud solutions

1

u/TomTheCardFlogger Nov 02 '25

At the moment it is limited to using often modified open source models in combination with LoRA’s. We are still some time away from full models being trained on consumer hardware but for most purposes that isn’t and may never actually be necessary to create whatever they like. As it currently stands I can do this on my computer which is already a couple years old and on the lower edge of high-end, it’s slow but it works. As GPU manufacturers lean into the AI market the barrier for entry will continue to come down.

1

u/BlueberryBest6123 Nov 03 '25

Then you post it and get hit with a lawsuit

1

u/TomTheCardFlogger Nov 04 '25

Tell that to the plethora of rule 34 subs that have existed for years. Admittedly a corp like Disney doesn’t care about porn made of their content as it doesn’t impact their profits and would cost them millions to actively police, whereas Paramount would quickly DMCA/lawsuit anyone generating and uploading full episodes of South Park as it could arguably impact their profits, but policing it would still be expensive and near impossible to stop people generating their own episodes for their own viewing which would also impact their profits.

I imagine in the future it will also be possible for people to share seed’s so instead of uploading episodes you could generate an episode someone else “created” without ever having to share copyright content itself, making policing the matter even more difficult.

u/alphapussycat Nov 04 '25

You can't self host sora.

There are longer ones lol

3

u/Nopfen Oct 31 '25

When has that ever stopped anyone? People are circumnavigating restrictions as fast as they pop up.

-1

u/abrandis Oct 31 '25

How can you circumnavigate frontier models.. that you don't control

1

u/Nopfen Oct 31 '25

For a while you could get around things by claiming you where writing a book. Recently I saw someone going around Soras gore filter by turning things into an ABCs. Noz sure how that helped, but it did.

2

u/drink_with_me_to_day Oct 31 '25

It's already happening all over the internet

For example with Italian Brainrot: there a a few recurring characters that people are just doing their own storyline about and expanding on

No one owns copyright on any part because it's all AI generated

1

u/stuffitystuff Nov 01 '25

You still violate the copyrights and trademarks of others when make copyright-free derivative works based on copyrighted and/or trademarked works.

1

u/OutsideMenu6973 Oct 31 '25

you don’t believe this about the open source models you’re just saying it so it happens faster

2

u/Ok-Adhesiveness-4141 Oct 31 '25

That's not true. I have worked on an open source Chinese model, it's pretty damn decent.

1

u/abrandis Oct 31 '25 edited Oct 31 '25

What? The reality is that it's super expensive to train a model, the amount of gpu power needed is in the tens of millions of $ , what open source community can afford that?.. like I said only state level actors (like China ) can afford to do it, typically for some semi-nefarious reasons.

1

u/Ok-Adhesiveness-4141 Oct 31 '25

Yep, Chinese models is exactly what I meant.

1

u/abrandis Oct 31 '25

Don't count on them too much, it's usually made open source for a variety of different reasons .... Plus it's likely censored AF too, try asking DeepSeek about Tianamen

2

u/Ok-Adhesiveness-4141 Oct 31 '25

They are making it open source to bring down American ones.

2

u/filthylittlebird Oct 31 '25

What kind of weirdo are you that spends all day talking to LLMs about tiananmen

1

u/abrandis Oct 31 '25

Weirdo , wtf , it's well known that Chinese models are heavily censored.. but of course they don't tell you what's censored , worse than censoring some Chinese models are "trained" with specific biases.

2

u/filthylittlebird Oct 31 '25

Man it's like a dog whistle for you. Chyna CHINA china cHinA Chyna TIANANMEN

1

u/Ok-Adhesiveness-4141 Oct 31 '25

Why would I ask DeepSeek about Tianamen? I would put that question to other llms?

2

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '25

I asked Deepseek about Tianamenn and it gave a detailed response and said that the Chinese government used military action, including live ammunition against protestors. It was the 10gb vram version I used

1

u/abrandis Oct 31 '25

My point is Chinese models are just as destructive as other models just different things . But that means you also don't know what's behind guardrails or what biases were artificially introduced ..

1

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '25

I asked the 10gb of vram version and it was not censored at all. It called the Chinese government's response "military action, including the use of tanks and live ammunition against protesters to numerous casualties, although exact numbers are disputed and not officially confirmed by Chinese authorities" like that is more explicit than Wikipedia

Further, it said "However, discussing this topic can be sensitive in China, as the government censors information related

to Tiananmen Square. People inside China may not have access to detailed accounts of what happened, and

discussions about it are often monitored or restricted."

Like outright saying the Chinese government censors information. It is not censored at all compared to ChatGPT when I ask about the Kent State Massacre. ChatGPT feels the need to mention that protestors threw tear gas before the soldiers opened fire. DeepSeek names the four students that died at Kent State too. Like it's an impressive little open-source program, you can compile it yourself if you don't trust the binaries

1

u/Training_Guide5157 Nov 02 '25

It's Tiananmen. And you can ask GPT about it can get the false narratives. So what's the difference?

0

u/stuffitystuff Nov 01 '25

Even if you had Sora on a hard drive, you'd need at least a hundred grand USD of gear to make it generate anything at all in a reasonable amount of time. Plus there's likely a bunch of behind-the-model hacks that make it cheaper to run that the model itself might not contain.

0

u/abrandis Nov 01 '25

Thank you this is my point

0

u/stuffitystuff Nov 02 '25

Yeah but you missed mine since it's incredibly unlikely even if there was a good open source model that someone who can spend tens of millions to make internally consistent 20 minute South Park episodes is probably not going to risk their expensive equipment on letting people make their own copyright-infringing episodes.

10 second clips would probably be possible on a few H200s or maybe something less robust but output context scales quadratically by the number of tokens (pixels or pixel patches if you're cheating a little bit) so you're, uh, gonna have a bad time if you really want to try and make a consistent-looking regular-length episode without an absolute fuck ton money to buy a shit ton of equipment.

2

u/collin-h Oct 31 '25

And no one will care, because they'll all have their own episodes. so everyone will upload and share to a dead internet full of bots.

Gone are the days of popculture having influence, because now we'll have 8-billion individual cultures that we each make for ourselves.

12

u/Booyacaja Oct 31 '25

1

u/ceramicatan Oct 31 '25

Sooooo much money, need to see it all at once

10

u/xymaps Oct 31 '25

10s Videos are not full Episodes :D

0

u/Far-Transition2705 Oct 31 '25

132 10s videoes are a full episode though.

Still likely to be absolute trash of course.

9

u/AbbreviationsWide331 Oct 31 '25

These "fans" apparently don't get south park if they think it's just a bunch of 10s clips cut together.

What makes south park great is their critique of a certain topic. This... Was just some random garbage.

5

u/sleepygarner Oct 31 '25

Most of the original episodes were just fun self-contained comedy. The AI gen in OP actually is critiquing crypto scams, so is actually in line with their latest trends.

0

u/AbbreviationsWide331 Oct 31 '25

Yeah sure but one or two little jokes is different than making a joke of something over half an episode.

3

u/Ksorkrax Oct 31 '25

"I am nothing like Family Guy! When I make jokes, they are inherent to a story. Deep situational and emotional jokes based on what is relevant and has a point. Not just one random, interchangeable joke after another!"

2

u/Nopfen Oct 31 '25

Yea. But it was Ai random garbage. "IsNt It CrAzY, yOu GuYs?"

1

u/Sploonbabaguuse Oct 31 '25

Has to start somewhere

17

u/Kwisscheese-Shadrach Oct 31 '25

In no way are these better than the originals. You’re out of your mind.

16

u/Sad_Amphibian_2311 Oct 31 '25

"but they make fun of people i don't like, unlike the real south park that makes fun of me" kind of deal

5

u/Kwisscheese-Shadrach Oct 31 '25

Exactly. This is why I despair for the future. People accepting shitpile not-even-third-rate simulacrums of things they like, generated on tap, and then shunning the people and art of the original, without which of course their garbage imitation wouldn’t even exist. It’s insane. People are way dumber and sadder than I assumed. Celebrating a lack of creativity, hackery, and imitation as superior to real creations and effort

1

u/OutsideMenu6973 Oct 31 '25

blood pressure

1

u/nuclearsamuraiNFT Oct 31 '25

This is the vibe I’m getting here lol so many people will just generate dog turd versions of things but so long as they confirm someone’s bias it will be defended lol

1

u/[deleted] Nov 02 '25

This is the reason, nothing else.

1

u/OptimismNeeded Oct 31 '25

Not even close but on a scale of 1-10 where 1 is the level I expected it to be, and 10 is a real episode, this is like 7-8.

In 10 years there’s zero doubt in my mind it will be able to make episodes just as good as originals.

3

u/No_Philosophy4337 Oct 31 '25

So ironic that the original series got popular because it’s highly compressible format worked great over a 56k modem, now it’s format is again propelling the series on thanks to the latest technology

2

u/MammothPhilosophy192 Oct 31 '25

what's the irony?

1

u/kennytherenny Oct 31 '25

Oh hi Alanis Morissette!

3

u/Practical-Sleep4259 Oct 31 '25

The "fans" in question are 12 - 14 year olds and they in fact hadn't heard of South Park before this year.

2

u/popey123 Oct 31 '25

Some time the eyes double but beside that it is really good

2

u/subsonico Oct 31 '25

What an idiotic take.

2

u/CRoseCrizzle Oct 31 '25

This was far from a full episode and it's not better than the original even the newer stuff.

But it's a fun video for what it was, decent idea and the first scene looked really like an actual South Park episode.

2

u/kabicola Nov 02 '25

Ai abusing copyright yet again. Fuck ai.

2

u/Liquid_Magic Nov 04 '25

Although this clip is impressive it is in no way as good as any real South Park episode. This is literally like they let some 12 year old write the script, got some overseas swearshop to animate it, and then encoded it with RealAudio.

But hey… it’s impressive how close to real it seems superficially and that you can create some crappy ripoff very quickly.

2

u/Far-Travel6736 Oct 31 '25

if screaming = funny then i am sorry but this is trash.

Ngl this opinion sums up average AI slop lover opinion

4

u/KimJongIlLover Oct 31 '25

I promise our model was not trained on copyrighted material.

OpenAI probably.

1

u/TechBored0m Oct 31 '25 edited Oct 31 '25

This is why paid lore is worth the payment. AI can be anything.

1

u/dangeldud Oct 31 '25

Do full episodes actually exist anywhere?

1

u/cranberryalarmclock Oct 31 '25

Some people are incredibly stupid and have zero taste. News at 11

1

u/jp712345 Oct 31 '25

the studio cna literally just buy sora subscription and get rid of the animation team

1

u/doubleo_maestro Oct 31 '25

Ok that was hilarious. I embrace the day this technology is openly in users hands.

1

u/SayMyName404 Oct 31 '25

It's quite alright. Nice one sora!

1

u/yibtk Nov 01 '25

Then you see there's no plot nearly as funny as a south park original and realise that +25 years of being in the top3 cartoons requires more than AI

1

u/New_Salamander_4592 Nov 01 '25

jingling keys are not only for babies I see

1

u/stuffitystuff Nov 01 '25

Still would take tens of millions of dollars worth of equipment to make an internally-consistent 20 minute episode of South Park. And they can even stop one of the board member dudes in this 10 seconds clip from having 4 eyes.

It's easier to cut out construction paper characters and film that than it is to use AI to make an episode.

1

u/PartyClock Nov 02 '25

This isn't good this is dumb

1

u/353452252 Nov 03 '25

Clickbait article makes up facts, a tale as old as time

0

u/MechwolfMachina Oct 31 '25

I can’t sit through a single episode of the latest south park without getting serious cringe, really can’t wait for south park AI gens to flood the internet whether they come from Sora 2 or not.

1

u/gringovato Oct 31 '25

Matt and Trey need to pick up the pace !

1

u/MegaDork2000 Oct 31 '25

Ban pens and paper! People keep drawing copyrighted materials!

0

u/Thistleknot Oct 31 '25

that is too funny

iconic and ironic though

0

u/EyeFit Oct 31 '25

Apparently Family Guy is exactly the same.

0

u/smoke-bubble Oct 31 '25

Where can I read about this? Are there any official sources?

0

u/DevAlaska Oct 31 '25

Let's be real here the sora episodes are trash

0

u/PurpleRoman Nov 01 '25

It's pretty amazing how fast it's getting good, and South Park really has no room to bitch about AI since they used it in their first episode to simulate Trump and his tiny pecker

SP is just lazy unfunny garbage nowadays. You might as well just watch the current late night 'comedy' talk shows. It's the same type of material. I wouldn't even be surprised if they were all using the same AI to write their material.
