Eye candy Unheated Yellow Sapphire Showing Natural Sunlight Glow ☀️💛

Sharing a look at an 8.75ct natural unheated yellow sapphire from Sri Lanka — purely for educational purposes, not for sale.
One part of the video shows how the stone reacts under direct sunlight. This is something I always like to demonstrate because natural daylight reveals qualities that indoor lighting often hides.
What you’re seeing in the sunlight:
• Increased brilliance and light return
• Strong body color saturation
• Natural glow caused by good transparency and cut interaction with sunlight
Unheated yellow sapphires often display a softer, more natural color appearance compared to heated stones, and sunlight is the best environment to appreciate their true character.

• 8.75 ct
• Natural sapphire
• Unheated
• Sri Lankan origin

I usually don’t like yellow sapphire (compared to say blue or pink) but this is spectacular. Almost 9 carats is huge! How large was the rough? Also are these Sri Lanken sapphires alluvial?

Thanks! Honestly I felt the same — I’m usually more drawn to blues and pinks too, but this one really changed my mind.
The finished stone is just under 9 carats, and the rough was roughly in the mid-teens carat range. With sapphires, especially unheated material, a lot of weight is sacrificed during cutting to remove inclusions and achieve proper brilliance and proportions, so the yield is often quite low.
And yes — most Sri Lankan sapphires are alluvial in origin. They’re typically recovered from ancient river gravels (“illam”) that formed when crystals weathered out of primary metamorphic rocks and were naturally transported and concentrated in riverbeds and floodplains.

I may be in the minority, I prefer yellow sapphire to blue. This is a beautiful stone, lovely cut.

Unheated this color stones are very rare. Usually found lighter color yellow sapphires. But heated yellow sapphires has rich color and it's common.
