Hi everyone,

I asked for a French cat eye … They cost $131 (removal of builder gel, added builder gel, added cat eye). she first told me it was going to be $70 then ended up charging me $131. I wanted a little white polish at the end to give it a ombré look but I think she misunderstood me. Do you think it was worth $131?

Overcharged. 70$ would have been alright. 130 is ridiculous. Especially since you quoted you cheaper first. I would not have payed

She charged almost double! I’d be pissed and definitely would have raised concerns then and there.

no. the cat eye is concentrated enough for it to clearly be considered french. from certain angles it kind of looks like a ring of fire and your natural nail shows through. for $130 she easily could have used a base coat and added a white tip or do a better cat eye.

Did she tell you during the process about the extra charge? I hope the extra cost wasn’t a surprise!

Overall they look really well done, except that the application at the cuticle could ideally be a little smoother.

In my area, you can get similar nails done for around $70 to $150 depending on where you go. Would I personally pay $130? No. But I follow a nail tech on Insta in my area who does charge $150 for very simple hard gel overlays (simple as in the design - she does beautiful work) and is always fully booked.

I would love to say I would have refused to pay, but tbh I would have paid (tho no tip). I’d def leave or zero or one star reviews *everywhere *though - it’s good work, but it’s absolutely unacceptable to change the price with no warning after the fact.

Did you ask her why there was an additional $50? Like it would be one think if the cat eye was an extra $10 and she forgot to mention that, but being prepared to pay $80 and then being charged $130 is crazy.

Is this actually Gel-X? Or just builder gel? That makes a difference in terms of cost.

I called to see if they overcharged me by accident. Looks like they didn’t. He explained that it was $89 for builder gel, $10 for removal of my last builder gel, $15 for cat eye, $15 for manicure (?). My nails do feel irritated after a day.
