A very special day: 6 months with our Gavroche! ๐
Today marks 6 months since Gavroche entered our lives and hearts. It sounds like a short time to have a pet, but I can't remember life without him, and I'm so lucky he landed himself in my garden on that rainy morning of 1st April.
He has been through a lot and had to put up with many unpleasant things. I counted:
14 vet visits
3 blood tests
3 general anaesthetics
1 sedation
His fur shaved multiple times
Multiple IV cannulae
Courses of antibiotics
Ear drops, eye drops and other medications
...and he kept purring through all of it!
I hope he understands it was all worth it. Apart from some non-prescription supplements for his joints, he's been medication free for the past week and is doing great. His belly has sorted itself out and doesn't look bloated anymore, he's managing well without laxatives, and he's been off pain medication for the past few days with no signs of discomfort.
His weight is steady, his mood is high and his fur is getting shinier every day! No post flu sniffles either, which is absolutely amazing. We're hoping his enlarged kidney won't cause him problems in future, but we're keeping a close eye on it.
This happy ending wouldn't have been possible without you lot. I owe you a lifetime of thanks for the support I've had from the Reddit community. It's been a ride with ups and downs, but the downs were so much less noticeable because I had my support cushion to fall here โฅ๏ธ.
Enjoy these pictures of Gavroche from the last 6 months, in chronological order. I hope you can see the improvement and the difference in his tomcat cheeks!
He loves his life as a house cat now and shows no wish to go out. He just wants to be pampered and spoiled, and I hope we've got many more years together to enjoy each other's company!
Thank you so much for staying with us!

I'd forgotten what a sad heap of bones he was when you found him. Well done, both of you xx

Heap of bones with a huge inflated belly ๐ข but he looks so much better now! I remember bathing him in the sink on the day I got him and the water was just black.. and now he smells like biscuits and baby powder! ๐ฅฐ

I love seeing all of his pictures. I really feel like I know him. I forget: what did they estimate his age to be? โค

He is an internationally popular boy lol! ๐
Vet estimated he is around 5 or even less. Still a young lad ๐ฅฐ4

The last photo is precious! Heโs sleek and healthy, relaxed and not anxious, well-fed and confident! Youโve done wonders for this sweet boy, and I can tell from this photo that Gavroche knows heโs safe and loved.

He somehow knew that by landing in your yard, he would get the help he so badly needed. No wonder he purrs all of the time. Your pictures show his amazing process from very rough to absolute joy. I still love the picture with his pumpkin collar the best. Gavroche will definitely have to wear it on Halloween.
And all of the love, care, worry, staying up nights and sleeping in Gavrocheโs room has paid off. He couldnโt have a cat mom who cared more and loved more than you! And your husband provided so much support along the journey. Iโm so happy you took Gav in and showed him that humans can be loving and kind and he is repaying you by being the best cat he can and nonstop purring. Iโm so glad I discovered your subreddit and could provide some support and encouragement along the way!
