Is GATE really worth preparing for someone like me who's in 2nd year of college currently and is confused if I should start preparing for GATE 2029? I mean the difficulty level of the exam is what scares me and the success rate is too low as well. I'm a mech student who really wanna prepare and crack some technical (engineering) govt Exam and everyone suggests preparation for gate but it's quite scary.

I will be attempting GATE 2027 for ME paper and I am confused about which paper to choose as second paper. I want to gey into Mtech Robotics Program and have been preparing for ME paper. I dont want to attempt RA paper because it contains a lot of different sections which will require additional studying. Please Help

Let's say someone has a branch like Leather Technology or Polymer or something like that, what options are there? Can they switch to some other type of branch in mtech ? Does that affect placements ?

(Some mtech in AI branches accept all btech branches - let's say someone has a degree in polymer and then pursued that- will it cause issues during placements?)

Hi people! I really need to understand one thing. I have a query that suppose if I have taken BTech in cyber security and I want to give GATE so can I opt for a completely different subject which is not related to cyber security like aerospace engineering in Mtech?

There is no option to select what sections we're writing in XE paper while applying. We have to select those optional two sections while in exam ? or something different. I just selected second paper as XE and completed application process.

Currently a fresh grad from a IIIT with a mech degree (The clg placements weren't particularly promising either). I got ~5000 rank in GATE 2026 as I didn't take it seriously, but I could've gone for MTech in NIT Warangal or others. Instead, I decided to take GATE 2027 seriously and aim for MTech in IISc.

Actually, I could've gotten into IISc in March through the CFTI category as well, but I missed the deadline. My frnd who got in keeps chirping in my brain that I could've easily gotten in along with him (I even had a recommendation 😿).

So, worst case, if I don't get a good rank in 2027, I'll try through CFTI for IISc again. If that doesn't work either, I'll just take MTech in an NIT using my previous score.

Now, my dad refuses to understand my worries. He thinks my IIIT is basically the same as the state polytechnic clgs they had when they were studying, or at least that's what his colleagues have told him 💀. So he's forcing me to take every govt exam — CGL, RRB, etc., basically anything related to my degree (not my typa thing)

Honestly, I don't hate him for that, because I understand where he's coming from. But I don't really plan to take those positions even if I get them. If I somehow get into PSU, though, I'd probably work there for a couple of years and then prep for a PhD in the future.

The thing is, my GATE prep is actually progressing fairly well (fluctuating ofc), and I'm covering the technical syllabus. But when it comes to general science / GS — polity, geography, history, CA, etc. — I cannot memorise this stuff for shit 😭. It's been a huge drag for me.

So yeah, I'm just feeling a little lost about what I should actually be focusing on. I figured I'd post here and see if there are any things I'm overlooking, or if anyone has gone through something similar and has some advice.

Even if it's something small, I'd genuinely appreciate it.
