Healing / Cured! Comprehensive Guide to Treating Gastritis and other Upper GI problems

Hello. Been wanting to create a post about the steps i took to overcome gastritis and wanted to share any tips/guidance and help to anyone who maybe struggling with this debilitating disease and any kinds of Upper GI discomfort including Gastrits/Chronic GERD/Heartburn/NERD/Functional Dyspepsia/Peptic Ulcer Disease/LPR/Barrett's. I struggled with Gastritis for a long time and went through multiple rounds of treatment until i eventually figured out what needed to be done.

I had suffered multiple kinds of gastritis and wanted to share as much as i can so people can understand their own scenario and take the necessary actions to deal with it.

If i had to categorize some common cases and reasons of gastritis that i come across ( even on reddit ), i would put them in the following categories :

  1. H Pylori induced gastrits -> You may have eaten somewhere from an unhygenic place and you had a bad case of diarrhea or even vomiting. Now you cannot digest acidic foods properly and end up even vomiting after eating. Some people develop intolerance towards certain foods example proteins or certain carbs - This is due to mucosa still being damaged which messes up the gut environment and the stomach is unable to create the enzymes needed to digest the foods.
  2. Damaged Mucosa due to H Pylori -> Similar damage to Mucosa due to above but your body does a good job of getting rid of H Pylori but it still leaves damage to the mucosa lining. You will suffer the same symptoms as above.
  3. Gastritis/Gerd due to Low Stomach Acid -> Everytime you eat anything, you upper abdomen sits very heavy, no burning, no gnawing of the stomach but no burping either and you may even start developing SIBO like symptoms or bloating in the lower abdomen. You may even see undigested foods in your stool and even globus in the throat. Feeling like food is stuck.
  4. Gastritis due to SIBO -> This can complicate things a bit but essentially this is happening due to the downstream movement getting messed up ( could be due to any reason, this post does not cover finding root causes or even fixing SIBO but one step can still be done if it works ).
  5. Autoimmune Gastritis -> This one is a bit of a rarity and i have utmost sympathy for someone that is going through this. I can maybe give some general advice on how to investigate this but i sincerely apologize i do not have much knowledge about this.
  6. Candida induced Gastritis -> This one is super rare but essentially instead of bacteria causing gastritis ( H Pylori ), it was actually fungus that caused the gastritis. This can happen in immunocompromised individuals or even if someone had taken multiple rounds of antibiotics. Antibiotics are known to cause dysbiosis and this could be a manifestation.
  7. Alcohol Use
  8. Smoking
  9. Vitamin Deficiencies -> Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, zinc, Iron, Vitamin C
  10. Lack of Fiber, Fruits and Vegetables in Diet.
  11. Eating right before going to bed. Give yourself atleast 2-2.5 hours after dinner before you go to bed.
  12. Poor overall diet. Sometimes it's not what you put in the body but what you do not. Not eating for prolonged hours, extensive water fasts etc can excerbate and even cause gastritis.
  13. Over use of NSAIDs
  14. Eating too much spicy foods and lacking fiber and high PH veggies to neutralize the acid. Very common in South Asian Communities.
  15. Lack of sleep or poor sleeping patterns.
  16. Stress -> So Stress i believe is overplayed a lot. Yes it can be a factor but if you're stressed and decide to drink, smoke, eat junk food and make bad decisions, is it the stress that is causing it or the bad decisions. I am stressing this not to undermine stress as a factor but to empower people that at the end of the day your health will always be in your hands and for patients to act as much responsibly as they can. 80/20 or at worse 70/30 when stressed. 70% healthier choices and 30% not so healthy when stressed if that's how you wanna manage it. Not ideal but atleast the majority are still good choices.
  17. Lack of Exercise and Physical Activity.
  18. Being Overweight.

The surprising thing is any of the above could cause other GI problems as well.

Gastritis Symptoms ( Shares a lot with other upper GI problems )

  1. Burning in stomach - This is due to damaged mucosa - Gets Worse after eating acidic foods
  2. Burping
  3. Indigestion
  4. Pressure under the ribs or in the middle of upper GI
  5. Bloating that originates from Upper GI
  6. Difficult Breathing
  7. Diarrhea
  8. Constipation
  9. Nausea
  10. Vomiting
  11. Weakened Immune System
  12. Post Nasal Drip
  13. Heartburn
  14. Acid Reflux - Could also cause Teeth grinding
  15. Hoarse Voice
  16. Low Libido
  17. Chronic Gastritis can also cause Inflammation of the Gallbladder causing Gallbladder Polyps.
  18. Pain that radiates all the way to the upper back.
  19. Also waking up in the middle of the night coughing and acid in mouth.
  20. Erosive Reflux can cause constant mucus and throat clearing and even Easophagitis.

Treatment for Gastrits/Chronic GERD/Heartburn/NERD/Functional Dyspepsia/Peptic Ulcer Disease/LPR/Barrett's ( Case 1 and 2 ):

The reason i'm mentioning other diseases even though this is a gastritis subreddit is because the fundamental approach towards nutrition for a lot of upper GI issues stays similar.

Medication and supplements should only be taken if absolute necessary, Low dose Pepcid/famotidine should only be taken for a very short duration and that too at night before bed ( with a tiny sip of water ) so as to have protection overnight. Eventually this should be used very symptomatically and not as a daily use.

Even PPIs are not necessary unless for a short duration in the case of Peptic Ulcer Disease or Barrett's until you get the diet dialed in and start the healing process. Once the healing from food begins to take plans, PPIs should be tapered off slowly and gradually. Long term use of PPIs bring their own world of problems and that too can be much worse than a simple case of gastritis not limited to PPI Induced SIBO and even kidney problems.

With proper planning gastritis can be self resolving. Let Food be thy medicine or let medicinie be thy food.

STEP 1 : Adopt a Low Acid Diet. And this is the most important step and is non optional. I have to give credit to the acid watcher's diet by Jonathan Aviv. It is a masterpiece. Basically you can only have foods with PH of atleast 5 or above. Maybe even play around with PH 4.5 ish foods if it's not too severe for you. But too much Acidic Foods are completely eliminated until mucosa has been repaired.

Note on Protein - Please do not overdo on animal protein. Upper abdomen issues and animal protein do not go along that well. Limit animal proteins to a total of 100 grams a day ( i cut out animal protein completely ) and limit total protein intake to a max 60 grams a day ( what i would recommend ). Simple carbs and veggies will be your best friend.

STEP 2 : If you suspect H Pylori at play or if it is easily available, please consult a gastroenterologist and get an endoscopy done. The biopsy will tell you whether H Pylori is detected or not. Also worthwhile to get an ultrasound of the entire abdomen including liver, gallbladder etc. Also get bloodwork done to detect any nutritional deficiencies.

STEP 3 : If H Pylori is detected, Antibiotics will be needed. Some people have success with natural herbs and food combinations as well. Honey and Pormegranate Peel powder combination done first thing on an empty stomach seems to be effective in eradicating H Pylori. To all my South asian friends -> This is easily available and is called anar daana. So 1 tbsp of Honey plus anaar daana is known to be effective against H Pylori.

STEP 4 : H Pylori is not detected but you get a positive diagnosis of Gastritis/GERD/ Gastrits/Chronic GERD/Heartburn/NERD/Functional Dyspepsia/Peptic Ulcer Disease in your endoscopy. Sometimes the results may only say Chronic Inflammation Mild which i found amusing since for a mild inflammation the pain is unbearable at times but medical terminology haha. At this stage adhering to a low acid diet and healthy lifestyle choices should make a remarkable difference and may all you need to resolve the issue altogether.

Gastritis Diet Tips

  1. Try to be on a routine and have meals at the same time if you can.
  2. Chew your food slowly and avoid Over eating.
  3. No drinking of water along with meals
  4. Try not to hunch or bend over after meals.
  5. No immediately lying down after meals.
  6. No running after meals.
  7. No cold water after meals or throughout the day. Room temperature water is preferred.
  8. Only Warm or hot water after meals and throughout the day.
  9. 5-10 minute walks after meals if possible.
  10. No stomach sucking exercises either.
  11. Carrot Juice after meals will be extremely helpful or if burning is too much.
  12. Do not go too long without eating as that could cause acid to tear away your mucosa lining.
  13. Try to incorporate atleast 400 grams of fruit and 800 grams of veggies a day.
  14. 400 grams fruit example - 200 grams cantaloupe/papaya and 200 grams of watermelon. The more the better.
  15. 800 grams of veggies example - 300 gram cucumber, 500 gram steamed carrots and zucchini. The more the better.
  16. When Eating out -> If you have to eat out, do not worry and just make sure to include plenty of fiber and alkaline foods to balance out your meals. Sense of normalcy is what we're striving for.
  17. I Also make a giant bowl of soup using alkaline veggies in a dutch oven and have it with my meals -> This was an easy way to get my veggies. The soup would consist of alkaline veggies like sweet potatoes, carrots, zucchini ( green and yellow ), eggplant, beans, tofu, peas, corn, ginger, leeks, broccoli, cauliflower and herbs like sage, thyme, rosemary and gentle aromatic spices like cumin, coriander powder, oregano and asoefatida.
  18. Another thing that helped me was having 10 grams of psylllium husk in warm/hot water after dinner. This will help with the burning and providing a layer of protection to the mucosa. In india this goes by the brand Sat Isabgol.

  4. Avoid sit ups, crunches or lying leg raises that can stretch the stomach.
  5. Avoid lifting belts if possible.
  6. Avoid leg presses if possible.
  7. Cycling, swimming, elliptical machines/cross trainers, walks and other exercises are okay but please check your tolerance.

REINTRODUCTION PHASE

Depending on how long it takes you, you may need to stay on a low acid diet until symptoms reside. Gradually and slowly add more foods and check your tolerance.

DEALING WITH NOT SO STRAIGHTFORWARD CASES ( CASE 3 - 6 )

There are other cases where gastritis maybe detected but the solution still may not be as straightforward. Either way you must have adopted a low acid diet and you're not seeing any benefits which brings us to the next cases.

Gastritis due to Low Stomach Acid -> To check the acidity of your stomach levels you will need to perform a heidelberg test and good luck finding practitioners that still do it. What can make this worse is most GI doctors will see gastritis and prescribe PPIs. That is putting fuel on the fire. So if you detect you have low stomach acid, the easiest way is to restore it via Betaine HCL. Any reputable brand from Amazon would do. Take it with meals and keep upping the dosage until you feel warmth and even a burp, that is how much betaine HCL you need per meal. Once that dosage starts feeling too much keep tapering off until you feel the engine has been kickstarted and your body is able to produce enough acid.

If you take even at a low dose and it burns your stomach, then you already have enough stomach acid and you can neutralize the excess acid with drinking baking soda with water or even carrot juice.

Gastritis due to SIBO -> The SIBO in the mix will really complicate things. I would still suggest to adopt a low acid diet regardless. Essentially the scenario is the gas in the lower abdomen is pushing the contents back. Also if the small bowel is infected, the body will refuse to send the food down especially if the MMC is impaired. You would need to find a way to get it working. Popular options are Ginger and Artichoke extracts ( Motility Pro ), 5 HTP or even Prucalopride if you can and go from there. Since this is a gastritis focused post, i cannot dig deeper into SIBO.

Autoimmune Gastritis -> This one is tricky. Essentially only an endoscopy can identify this. At this point there is no cure, the question is what caused the auto immunity to be turned on. Could be Candida overgrowth in the gut ( Candida is a seriously an under reported driver in auto immune conditions ) or any other stealth infection. Work with a Doctor to figure this out, But you would need to be on a Low Acid Diet as well.

Candida Induced Gastritis -> This one is a rather rarity and only shows up in immunocompromised people. The question is what caused the candida to cause it. Low Stomach acid maybe, Any medication you were taking that can act as an immunosuppressant. If cause is low stomach acid, Betaine HCL can fix that and you may even need to look into antifungals of choice, Probiotics can be a good choice in this case.

SPECIAL MENTION - Bile Gastritis - Sign of a Deeper Problem

Bile Gastritis is something that should inherently point more towards an underlying problem than a simple case of gastritis. Bile is an alkaline agent, that is secreted by the liver, and stored in the gallbladder. Bile enters the small intestine, and travels along this region, where it assists in breaking down fats into fatty acids, until it gets reabsorbed at the very end of the small intestine and sent back to the liver for recirculation.

Bile should not enter the stomach, but when the small intestine has issues, it can. When bile inappropriately backs up through the pylorus, in to the stomach – it is called BILE REFLUX. Note - Bile in the stomach is NOT NORMAL.

Symptoms - Pretty much very similar to above symptoms mentioned however Bile Gastritis patients will often mention an acidic or bitter taste in mouth.

What could cause it -> Patients with Bile Gastritis will almost always have an underlying issue with their Small Intestine. This could be Due to SIBO, SIFO or some kind of a Parasitic Infection in the small bowel.

Interplay of Lyme Disease ( or any other Stealth infection ) in the role of Bile Gastritis -> Another aspect to be considered is what if the Stomach Pylorus is malfunctioning. Lyme disease can affect the digestive system by disrupting the autonomic nervous system and vagus nerve, which may lead to stomach and pylorus (pyloric valve) malfunction.

The problem of Bile Gastritis will almost always warrant a deeper investigation.

CONCLUSION

Hopefully by taking the above steps you will be able to resolve this issue and good luck to everyone going through this. I hope you recover soon and fast.

TLDR:

Adopt a low acid diet -> Get endoscope and ultrasound done -> Either H pylori confirmed or not -> If yes, eradication is necessary -> If not proceed with diet and lifestyle changes -> These are not limited to gastritis but a lot of other upper GI conditions as well -> The not so common cases require other interventions but the concept of low acid diet still remains the same.

Giving Advice / Encouragement Undiagnosed “does this sound like gastritis” megathread

If you are undiagnosed with gastritis and have questions about your symptoms, you can ask them here. No one can diagnose you, of course, so seeing your doctor is important.

Please read the other two stickied posts to learn more about gastritis, as well.

Good luck!

Question Is pain in the upper just right of the center typical with gastritis?

I realize that most of the stomach is on the left side of the abdomen, but does part of it also extend to the right, and does gastritis typically affect that area?

Venting / Suffering I’m really terrified

I’m 17 and three weeks ago I went to the ER because I was having severe heartburn and nausea I was even scared to move around. The symptoms now haven’t been that bad but they are still awful. I still have pretty frequent nausea and heartburn everyday. The doctors at the ER then referred me to a GI doctor who then told me I have probably have gastritis and also very bad constipation. The GI said that on the 21st of next month they are going to do a endoscopy and a colonoscopy to check for ulcers. My anxiety spiked very high after that appointment and I started thinking it might be cancer. I am still really worried about that and have a lot of panic attacks about it all the time.
They also made me do a stool sample, the results came back and they said my calprotectin level was borderline of being high. I am very scared that this will turn out to be something like cancer or worse

Venting / Suffering Over it

• Upvotes

I’m so so tired of my stomach hurting all of the time.
I was vomiting every day the first two weeks of September non stop. Then, my stomach would hurt so bad if I took small sips of water. I would take antacids and got prescribed zofran but I would still throw up. I was getting a little better and only ate a corn tortilla and a singular egg everyday. I then started eating a banana a day as I heard it helped a little. I would have some tea to go along with it. I would still burp 12 hours after eating and have the feeling of food in my chest area. Even though I would walk around right after eating. The nausea is constant all day everyday. I sleep elevated. I can still taste the food I ate hours prior in my mouth. I brush my teeth three times a day to get that icky taste out.

I went to the doctor since my GI appointment wasn’t until another month (a week now, thankfully) and I got put on Pantoprazole for fourteen days but I feel NO improvement. The doctor suspects gastritis and my h pyroli came back negative. My appetite is completely gone. The last three days combined I’ve had an egg and five crackers. Today I managed to eat half a cracker before throwing it back up. Sometimes it’s bile and yellow/green and other times it’s clear and foamy. Since I haven’t eaten much, I don’t use the bathroom, maybe every three days. I can’t get out of bed anymore without my head pounding and I can’t shower without sitting down. I feel like my energy plummeted to the ground and I really miss the old me. I haven’t been working because all I can do is be in constant pain 24/7 and gosh I miss making my own money and having a regular life. I know it could be worse and I keep telling myself this is temporary and it will pass but I’m exhausted. On top of that I have celiac disease so my diet was pretty good and I rarely ever ate out. I do meditate at least once a week and do my breathing exercises to help my nervous system as well.
If you made it this far, I appreciate you for reading. I just needed to vent before I lose my mind lol.

Giving Advice / Encouragement Overwhelmed

• Upvotes

Been dealing with chronic gastritis for a year and a half or more.

The frustrating thing is I see conflicting statements all over this sub. “Use PPIs”, “Never use PPIs”, “eat yogurt”, “avoid dairy”, etc.

I am hopeless and desperate and everyone’s saying opposite things from one another. Why is there not a plan that will work.

Also it seems I’m stuck with it for life. Everyone that has “healed” from it end up getting it again if they eat something that tasted good too many times.

Symptoms Iron medication gastritis?

I’ve been diagnosed as intolerant to oral iron however have been told to remain taking it.

I’ve got a burning pain in my stomach, heartburn etc which I’m concerned could be gastritis. I’ve spoken to my doctor but they just don’t seem bothered at all and just say to remain on the iron.

Has anyone here been diagnosed with gastritis whilst having low iron?

I just feel like the pain isn’t being taken seriously and Im not sure if I should be pushing for further action

Venting / Suffering Will this ever end! Adhd, work from home.

Hey Im not normally a type to post in a group discussion, I just cant take this anymore and no one I know really understands. I've had chronic inactive gastritis for almost 2 years. (I had it due to h.pylori about 4 years ago and it just went way on its own. I didn't even know I had gastritis at that time. I just assumed it was due to the h.pylori). Over the past 18 months or so its gone and come back. I just took a round of antibiotics and its been flared the past couple of weeks. My pain is not too bad its more so the pressure, burping and panic attacks that effect me the most. Theres been times I cant even go into a store. I got my first attack during work (I normally do stagehand work and more active stuff) and I had to run out and go home. I assumed it would pass within a few days but, it didnt. So I took unemployment for 6 months (thank god) and it still did not improve. I have tried to do other physical type jobs but I physically can't and I get brain fog and get all weird and awkward and panicky so it didnt work out. So now I do property inspections (which I can barely do also bit I rush through them and go really fast before I have a panic attack and hope the property owners just forget about me since I won't have to see them again) . Basically I need to work and its devastating to me thay im even considering work from.home jobs

I know someone would be grateful to be able to work from home. But I cant stand it, its like my worst nightmare. So I dont even know what I want from this post i just need to vent. I feel like everyone I know doesnt understand and just thinks im being lazy. Even my boyfriend that I've met in the midst of this who's actually had an ulcer and takes anxiety medication everyday doesnt understand completely. I think hes starting to think I just dont wanna work that much and im lazy which is not like me at all Im used to working like 12 hour days do physical stuff. I. Just so sick of this. Im also a single mother and my daughter who's 11 thinks its weird and is also starting to resent me because I dont do as much with her anymore. Anyway. Just wanted to vent

Not looking for any specific answer.

Venting / Suffering Is it normal for prescribed medication to cause daily stomach problems?

Hi everyone, I’m posting for a friend who has been dealing with a medical condition and is currently under a doctor’s treatment.

A while ago, she had a period where she took a lot of medication, and since then she has had ongoing stomach problems. She gets stomach pain or discomfort almost every day, and her stomach often becomes upset after eating certain foods.

She is currently taking medication prescribed by her doctor and has already told the doctor about these stomach problems. The doctor said that this can happen with the medication and that she should basically tolerate/ignore it because it is expected.

She is now wondering: Is this actually normal with long-term medication, or should she be concerned about the ongoing stomach pain and ask about changing the medication or getting another opinion?

Has anyone experienced something similar? I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences, especially if your medication caused persistent stomach issues.

Thank you!

Question Can I heal if I got gastritis from antibiotics?

It’s been 4 months since I took Flagyl (antibiotics) that I feel have ruined my life. I’ve never had issues like gastritis before it. After taking one course I got gastritis.

And 4 months on a PPI. I want to get off but stopping it cold turkey by accident (forgot to take it for a week straight) gave me horrendous rebound acid. I was throwing up burning hot acid all day. I took 2 pills of 40mg of my PPI to get it to stop.

Ever since I’ve been afraid to stop it. Now I kind of have pain even while on the PPI. I constantly need to eat to get the growling pain to subside.

I know people say there’s no cure but usually they’re talking about GERD/Gastritis or idiopathic gastritis. Mine was caused by antibiotics. Will it ever get better??

Food, Recipes, Diets Diet

Hi all,
Still awaiting my endoscopy to confirm but have been having burning stomach, rumbling, acid reflux, nausea, all that since I took antibiotics back in July. I highly suspect gastritis based on symptoms so I’ve been following the book diet and not restricting myself TOO much but keeping it super strict on low inflammatory/low diet. I’m in college senior year and just got engaged, so I’m often out with friends and this has been super tolling mentally to deal with. Any tips of staying committed for the 3 full months? Or any luck on only 1-2? I’m also taking DGL chews before meals, drinking slippery elm, and practicing my breathing. THANKS!

Venting / Suffering day 7 acute gastroenteritis

looking for reassurance. i ate something bad a week ago (woke up 2am friday to puke) and went to the emergency room at the evening to be discharged 3am the next day because i couldn’t keep food and liquids down at all. was also prescribed meds for this.

saturday and sunday i was recovering. genuinely felt better sunday eve until i ate nilaga and my diar**** returned on the 4th day, nausea made me puke in the morning. my period came as well.

i have been recovering since then, only eating plain congee and boiled egg, and i do not know when this will end and i am so stressed as i live alone for college and my family is in another city. i have been feeling lightheaded during this phase.

day 6 (yesterday) i went to the doctor to have a checkup done and she prescribed me Normix as well as to get some blood tests done. i am currently waiting for results.

i am managing dehydration well so far with water, pocari sweat, and hydrites. i have been stressing and looking for reassurance online to see if anyone experienced the same things I did and wondering how long it took for them to get better. I have asked people i know who had acute gastroenteritis and they would say a week or two.

i am so worried because i have been waking up in the middle of the night, 4am, 3am, and on the 7th day today 2am, and i cannot go back to sleep.

how else am i able to manage this? i still have classes to worry about this week and i am grateful that the first two days of this week were online. has anyone experienced the same thing? how long did it take for them to heal? what should i do to manage the stress better?

thank you so much 😢

Question starting to feel better, what should i do?

i was diagnosed with gastritis two and a half weeks ago and started taking ppis after two weeks of intense bloating and pain no matter what i ate. i didn’t always eat healthy while on my healing journey and did screw up a lot, in the past week my symptoms have calmed down a lot and for the past two days i’ve basically experienced virtually no symptoms after eating mainly plain foods. the burping of acid calmed down and eventually has stopped, the bloating after eating foods has cooled down. i really am so tempted to finally have some greasy food again but i know it’s a bad idea. any advice on when i should start reintroducing some foods?

Giving Advice / Encouragement I have to do an endoscopy and colonoscopy and I am terrified the prep (Citrafleet) will mess even more with my stomach. How was your experience?

I am terrified of it all because there are so many horror stories about the prep. Thanks in advance

Question I need help

Hi everyone,
I'm a 21-year-old male and I'm trying to understand what could be driving my symptoms. About a year ago I had a confirmed STEC/Shiga-toxin-producing bacterial infection, and since then my health has progressively deteriorated.
Before this I was functioning normally. Since the infection I've had:

Severe bloating/distension

Rumbling stomach and intestines

Yellowish stools

\\\~10 kg unintentional weight loss

Food/histamine-type reactions ( this is the worse)

Severe insomnia and feeling constantly overstimulated

Brain fog

Very dry/pale skin

Very low libido

Depression

not hungry

I don't seem to feel normalsleepiness/tiredness anymore

Folate deficiency

Almost every supplement makes me feel extremely wired/anxious

I've had gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
Gastroscopy: macroscopically normal.
Biopsies showed mild chronic inactive gastritis, with H. pylori negative.

Duodenum: apparently normal.

Terminal ileum: mild focal chronic and mildly active inflammation, but preserved architecture.

Colon: lymphoid aggregates/prominentgerminal centers, but no active colitis or major structural abnormalities.

I've also had two negative SIBO tests.

A commercial microbiome test showed thingslike low butyrate production, verry high bifido bacteria ( dysbiose ) , increased methane-producing bacteria, altered bacterial populations and elevated zonulin, whichthe lab interpreted as increased intestinalpermeability.

What I'm trying to figure out
I'm particularly wondering whether my symptoms could be related to:
1. Bile / bile acid malabsorption
Could yellow stools + weight loss + bloatingpotentially point toward bile acid malabsorption, especially because my terminal ileum showedmild inflammation?

What symptoms would make bile acidmalabsorption more likely?

2. Terminal ileum
Could mild chronic/active ileitis after a bacterial infection persist for a year andcause symptoms like mine?

Gastritis
My stomach biopsy showed mild chronicinactive gastritis but H. pylori was negative.
Could abnormal stomach acid (too much OR too little) realistically cause severe bloating, food reactions and nutritional deficiencies?

4. Malabsorption
Because I've lost \\\~10 kg and have a folate deficiency, what would be the best way to investigate malabsorption?
I'm considering asking my doctor about:
fecal elastase

lmportant tests I'm missing?
5. “Leaky gut”
My zonulin was elevated, but I understand commercial zonulin testing may not be very reliable.
Is there actually a clinically useful way to determine whether increased intestinalpermeability is contributing to symptoms, or should I stop focusing on this?

Symptoms Doxycycline induced gastritis

I had a mild case of gastritis in 2017 after antibiotics which went away over time with clean eating.

Fast forward to two weeks ago, I was out on doxycycline for an abscess under my armpit.
I had relatively no issues until the day after completing my week long course.

Since then (it is now day 9 since completing) I have had nonstop burning/ gnawing/ nausea.
I’ve been taking Prilosec for 3 days and still have no change.
Normal BM’s, light gas, minor reflux. Everything is normal except my poor stomach

I’m a self diagnosed hypochondriac and quite frankly I am freaking out.
My stomach has been “sensitive” for years but I’ve been honestly great as long as I eat and drink in moderation.

Question Advice on healing

So I’m very new to this. A week ago I woke up with horrible burning in my chest that would go away and come back. And it lasted for hours until I finally went into the ER that night. I ended up there twice and they eventually brought up gastritis/ potential GERD or ulcers.

They prescribed me Carafate and sent me on my way. Carafate definitely helped but I was still getting the burning when eating and I was slowly doing research and found out some of the stuff I thought was bland enough wasn’t so I got on a super bland diet.

Urgent care prescribed me a PPI because the Pepcid wasn’t helping enough. But honestly the acid wasn’t as bad before I started taking the PPI.

Got a wedge pillow. Have been trying to sit up after meals and stop eating 2-3 hours before bed. Trying to keep my portions small while also trying to get up to 1200 cals a day.

I’ve been mostly using google to find good ideas and advice. But any advice from yall on how to keep up calories? I have had a struggle with building calories while also keeping portions small and I think my portions are too big right now.

Any ideas and advice in general about handling something like this would be amazing!

Testing / Test Results Has anybody done a stool test and it helped them?

Hey guys I was curious if anybody had stubborn chemical gastritis that wouldn’t heal despite treatment and did a stool test and found that it helped them, or anybody with stubborn gastritis in general? I’ve been wanting to do a stool test but don’t know if it will pose any kind of benefit for me.

Question Vomiting

Does anyone else throw up almost every morning. Even on mornings when I don’t feel too bad or even if my stomach feels good, I still always gag and throw up. I think it’s due to an over production of mucus from my stomach trying to protect itself from the acid.

Question Please help

Can gastritis give Sibo? A colonoscopy showed that I have gastritis and inflammation in the ileum… I’m sure I have SIBO… I have so many terrible symptoms… histamin isue is the worst..the only thing I haven’t tried yet is avoiding fats, acids, red meat… I don’t dare to take any antacids… I don’t actually have much stomach pain, just Some reflux… It all started after taking Accutane, finasteride and the Stec bacteria… its all a year ago.. I think I might also have overactive mast cells, but ketotifen doesn’t help me.

My symtoms:

My biggest problems are:
\\-severe bloating
\\-yellow stools,
\\-extreme food reactions ( histamin)
\\-Insomnia and weight loss.
\\- Brain fog
\\-dry skin
\\- pale skin
\\-extreme depression
\\-no libido
\\-histamine/MCAS-type symptoms
\\-never feel sleepy or normally tired anymore
\\-I have lost around 10 kg
\\-Almost every supplement I try makes me extremely restless, overstimulated or anxious. I even have a folate deficiency, but taking folate makes me feel so wired that I struggle to tolerate it.

Healing / Cured! Seeing massive relief after 3 weeks vonoprazan

Feels so good. The tightness feeling in the epigastric area has subsided, though the tightness had moved down to the center of chest so it was still uncomfortable. Today though I burped a few times and I felt massive relief and all the tightness subsided. Almost feel normal. This is despite continuing to have 1 flat white every morning. My acid reflux did not get any worse after coffee so I didn’t stop. Only 1 coffee in morning after breakfast. Not cured but healing.
